It blows my mind that Louis Armstrong performed in the original Jimmie Rodgers recording from 1930, alongside country's first star, and 40 years later he was performing the same song with Johnny Cash, one of the genre's last big stars.
Young gun singer named Colter Wall references this song in his entitled "Thirteen Silver Dollars". He's confronted by a cop, guilty of sleeping in the snow. The cop asks his name, Colton sings Blue Yodel #9, but "he did not catch the reference I could tell". AMAZING to see Satchmo and Cash together, the delight on Johnny's face is so deep.
I found this song mentioned in a book titled "Meeting Jimmie Rodgers" by Barry Mazor. This was a song that was done by Sachimo on a Johnny Cash t.v. show in 1970, a year before Armstrong died.
Thank's for upload (I possess this video on DVD but it's great for all TH-cam subscriber the possibility to see one of the greatest jazz trompet player and one of the greatest country music singer/composer). Hear Merle Haggard song (with "dixieland express or/and later, Gary Church on trombone and Denis Solee on sax), Hank Williams Jr. On one LP, the great Charlie McCoy (harmonica) played Tuba (Yes) and trumpet (yes yes). FromFrance, best wishes. Jo Luttringer

How did I just now come across this? Two of my music idols playing blues together??? This is everything I live for.
Exactly! Each is a great in his own right, and they made this work ... and they had fun and we had fun ... lol, or at least I didl😅
Two of the very greatest performers of the twentieth century, together. Both larger than life, both probably THE representatives of their genres.
I love how Louis starts laughing every time Johnny yodels
I just love Louis' reaction at 1:51 ❤
