The tricky part is when charismatic people assert unfalsifiable claims as the truth. Then it becomes a question of your faith in the dream they’re selling. And, of course, the other followers are told not to associate with those lacking faith, discouraging you from thinking critically about the group and its doctrines.
Many cults start because their leader believes they have exclusive truth. Some church denominations toe this line too. "We're the most biblical New Testament church." "We're getting back to pure and unadulterated Christianity." "Other denominations try, bless their hearts, but we're the most theologically sound." Many cults have great theological statements but an unhealthy culture when it comes to caring for people as Jesus did.
The most saddest documentary that I watched was about Jonestown. I lost it when they showed dramatize scenes of the precious children being poisoned. So disturbing and very sad.
I watched a video once years ago that had (or claimed to have) actual audio from the poisoning process, and the screaming still haunts me… especially the children. I can’t even imagine the evil that would brainwash and drive people to something so horrific.
I studied with JWs when I was in my teens and early 20s and they go after vulnerable people. If you're from a single mother household, or say your friend passed away they capitalize on peoples vulnerabilities.
This verse below really helped me discern between actual scripture and well-meaning people’s “beliefs.” Test the “wisdom” that you are getting against this verse and the rest of scripture and ask yourself if it lines up. “But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. Peacemakers who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness.” James 3:17-18 NIV
My family left a church that had become cultish. The pastor was very charismatic, replaced staff over time with broken, hurting people who looked to him as their savior. Our family left a couple years ago and the change in our kids is ASTOUNDING!!! We knew something was wrong at that church but could never put a finger on it...and our kids grew up there and we thought things were alright for them (except that only the pastor kids were getting attention from the youth pastor and our youngest hated Sunday school and stopped going). So when we left, their growth has been amazing to see! Like flowers blooming and coming alive. Thank you for making this video! It resonates and is very good information!!
About what you hinted at, 14:00, I’ve noticed that some churches use music to emotionally gaslit people. It’s disturbing. The amount of people I see online who used to go to churches where it’s basically a big concert, eventually left because they found the same feeling when at secular music concerts. We shouldn’t be using worship music to play with peoples emotions, we’re supposed to be worshiping God. And I’m not saying people can’t feel emotional while worshipping, I’m more so saying that it’s forced on people in a lot of these concert like settings, and that’s wrong.
I grew up in a church that sang the old hymns. By which I mean songs written in the late and early 19th and 20th century. These are not songs that just repeat a touchy feely chorus over and over. Most of the songs had 5-6 long verses that helped explain different aspects of God, purposes of God, the plan of Salvation. And the revealed beauty of God and His salvation moved me deeply with joy. I stopped listening to the Christian radio station in my area because a catchy tune with a strong beat may get my feet tapping as I sing the same few words over and over but it doesn't move me to awe the way the profound verses of the old hymns do.😊
@pmc2999 hey my church is like that too! I agree, it's the truth in the lyrics that moves me, but beautiful (not necessarily catchy) music that accompanies it makes it even better
@@pmc2999I also grew up singing old hymns, from the 19th century to the 20th, and they mean more to me than a few words repeated over and over again to a hypnotizing tune. There are some pretty good, modern Christian songs too, but they’re hard to find.

Melissa, you covered the topic of the draw to cults perfectly, which makes this time period so dangerous, as so many people are lonely and may have lost their ties to other humans. One thing that is hard is many churches act like the only connection that is valid is marriage. If not married, then obviously not God’s will. God designed the ultimate model of group fulfillment, the worldwide Church, to meet peoples' needs. It's centered around Christ and His gospel. Following God is the greatest purpose, so people find true fulfillment in serving Him, loving one another, and caring about the world around as Jesus would. Identity is found in Christ, not the world around or a human-appointed leader. Cults (and many other organizations) are sadly Satan's twisted counterfeits of the Church.
Sometimes you can have otherwise sound and alive Christian churches, which slide into cultic patterns. The 'heavy shepherding' of the 1970s and 80s was an example. It's tricky because commitment and accountability are necessary, but these can become distorted into patterns of unhealthy control and dependence.
religious philosophy student here, congrats, you just described the appeal of ALL mainstream religion to a T whether you like it or not! Self awareness is insane!
I have been too independent all my life & have questioned everything & everyone including my parents. Carisma turned me away. Maybe this was good because I searched for my own answers & have always had to "know that I know" & this was my quest to find if Christianity was TRUE. No one tells me what to think except for God & that is not exactly how God works
By your definition, true, Biblical Christianity is incapable of being indoctrinated, since proving all things is commanded to all individuals, including the quality/salvation of leaders.
That’s why many deconstruct. They often fall into the trap of a type of “Christianese” that’s not biblical…. When they realise, this “christianese” is man made, they leave, truly believing Christ is a lie. But it was their hearts that desired a different Christ and waking up to the reality…. Make them walk away. Sad because they don’t want to pursue Christ who is the truth, the way and the life, a glory who is waiting for them.
The main reason is, they are not born again, and fall for religions, and by not knowing the word of God are tossed to and frow, they need to be given the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believes.
I regard you a friend, Mel; let’s be cautious not throw all our Charismatic friends (very much the anti-denom that became popular from the ‘70s forward). Yes, it’s all to simple to swerve into Charis-mania; as our Word of Faithers do? Teach it, my sister!
It's amazing how much i thought i knew about why I'm here, where I'm going, etc... the big questions about life we all have, and how much pride was associated with that "knowledge" when i was LDS... it feels so good to repent for that pride and to be ok trusting God and maybe not having all the "answers". Life's much more of an exciting adventure!! I visit with jws weekly, and i totally see the pride in them that they have the "truth"/"answers". The truth is that what God has in store for His children is much more wonderful than we can even comprehend. And it doesn't require secret handshakes, key words, tokens or any other of a long list of "requirements". His Doctrine is simple: repent, be baptized, and follow Him. That's it! Anything more or less than that cometh of EVIL, as He says Himself. Problem is people don't think that could mean what it does and create a .myriad of checkboxes.
I was 'guilt ridden' by groups if my doctrine or experience didn't match with theirs. In my case there was a spirit of 'condemnation' by Oneness Pentecostals if I didn't submit to their 'baptism'. Never submitted to them. No one willingly submit to cults but are intimidated into them.
Repeating an answer to a question "What does the LDS church have to do with cults?" asked in a thread. "For starters, the LDS doctrines depart from orthodox Biblical theology. The LDS also present themselves as the true church with teachings exclusive to the LDS that Christians are missing, which is no surprise since the core of LDS teachings are not Christian. A good place to start is the teachings centred on Jesus Christ. Hint: Jesus and Lucifer were not brothers, as the LDS teach".
Unfortunately, what you are describing is true for many Christian Churches. I like to ask questions and understand "why" things are done a certain way. Usually, this is tolerated a little bit but many times I am shut down and told "that's just the way we do things".
Yes, and the people that call themselves Christian’s and do those things are wrong. I’m sorry that has happen to you. I wish people would be open to answering questions, and if they don’t know the answer looking into themselves.

I get attacked by a political cultists regularly because I question things and would like some answers, don't blindly support when things in the past done that harmed many Americans haven't been addressed. I am attacked and called names and accused of supporting the "other side" even though I am on the same side of issues politically..🤷🏼♀️ Not allowed to ask questions or be gaslit and thrown away. 😅
Thank you for this insightful video!
Melissa, love your channel. God bless you and your family.
Go ahead and speak that truth and exposed the darkness. Keep exposing it, because cults absolutely exist and prey on the weak/vulnerable. Appreciate you for your videos and researched information sharing.
Thank you sooo much for your ministry Melissa 🙏🏼
Thank you Melissa❤South Africa
Well done! Thanks for the great information
Nailed it once again! Very valid and solid talk!😎👍
Thank you, Melissa
good video Melissa! your very good at presentation.
#3, Perfect description of the Austrian painter.
You rock for this video. A good way to fight back, even if indirectly.
Good thing I'm an introvert who loves isolation and hates crowds. Whenever someone tells me to go somewhere, I mostly decline.
Excellent commentary Melissa. You are an exceptional presenter. Thank you. Lyn
Good stuff melissa, thank you God bless.
I listen to your videos every day. Thank you very much.
This is very helpful in understanding a friend.
Another great video Melissa.
Thank you Melissa!
Thank you Mellisa interesting
So happy when i see you
By your definition, true, Biblical Christianity is incapable of being indoctrinated, since proving all things is commanded to all individuals, including the quality/salvation of leaders.

amazing video
Great work
That’s why many deconstruct.
Hi Melissa , thank you for this. Could you share insight and perspective on deliverance ministry and NAR a little more in upcoming videos?
Victory chapel cfm perfectly fits this.
Thank you, for sharing this.
Would you please do one on brainwashing?
The main reason is, they are not born again, and fall for religions, and by not knowing the word of God are tossed to and frow, they need to be given the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believes.
You described many if not most mainstream churches 😢
My mom , no education, abused child , bad marriage JW
Thank you for defining indoctrination so clearly. I feel like that word has been overused and misused.
- the need want and desire for connection is Be cause of Love
I was 'guilt ridden' by groups if my doctrine or experience didn't match with theirs. In my case there was a spirit of 'condemnation' by Oneness Pentecostals if I didn't submit to their 'baptism'. Never submitted to them.
No one willingly submit to cults but are intimidated into them.
6:10 - I dare not trust the sweetest frame, but wholly trust in Jesus' name. 😊
When the book is going to be released!?😉😉
Unfortunately, what you are describing is true for many Christian Churches. I like to ask questions and understand "why" things are done a certain way. Usually, this is tolerated a little bit but many times I am shut down and told "that's just the way we do things".
Yes, and the people that call themselves Christian’s and do those things are wrong. I’m sorry that has happen to you. I wish people would be open to answering questions, and if they don’t know the answer looking into themselves.

Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, if you abide in my word, you are my disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free. John 8:31,32
The interesting thing is that every susceptibility is something that was designed in us that God is supposed to fulfill, and did so to the first two in the garden of Eden until their rebellion and fall now inherited in us.
Charisma...isn't there a magazine called that? 🤔
Not about me me me III it’s about looking after the children and the women that are in need all we need Lord Jesus Christ wisdom bless you in Jesus name

Ironically, I've always seen Melissa as a charismatic leader who can do no wrong. What do I do now?
Haha. Repent! She would tell you that herself! But if she ever says, I've got the whole truth and you don't... Follow me! Then run!
You dropped NOTHING but GEMS. We should do a collab. I’ve made similar videos we think very similar.

I'm favoured, Getting my own Truck has always been my Dream for my business. I just acquired 2 recently, earning $32K weekly has been really helpful. I can now give back to the locals in my community and also support Charity Organizations.
0:02 It is the digital market. That's been the secret to this wealth transfer. A lot of folks in the US and abroad are getting so much from it, God has been good to my household Thank you Jesus
Thanks to Ms Elizabeth Marie Hawley 🙌❤️✅✅
Her top notch guidance and expertise on digital market changed the game for me
How can I start this digital market, any guidelines and how can I reach out to her?
I'm really interested please!! 🙏
She should do a video on the top 5 reasons folks join Christianity
Same could apply to literally any other religion.

Or maybe better phrased "Why Christianity is NOT a religion" (and God's evidence = Fulfilled Bible Prophecy ETC)
@@dstrong86bluecoffee Anytime man speaks on behalf of a deity, you are dealing with religion. You can try to change the definition of religion as much as you like but Christianity is a religion. You get all religion from man. The only way to a man made god is to go through the men that created the god.
Even the Bible mentions 'religion' in positive terms in several verses
I'll let you do the research
I think you're doing a wonderful job Melissa at analyzing things on an intellectual level but I noticed you haven't spoke to the spiritual deception yet when you speak truth some people hear their mother calling them it's a demonic spirit with a suit and tie

The "lockdown" protocols were established by teams of behavioral psychologists, historians, and anthropologists... and not virologists, immunologists, and epidemiologists as one would expect in a "viral outbreak/pandemic".
Think about that one for a bit.
Sorry, this comment above is for another channel not yours bless you and all your ways in Jesus name
Good to see Michael Beverly completely destroy this video
All great points. Great job in realizing these truths. Excellent job, now, applied them to every christian doctrines and denomination and you tell me if any of those applies to your religion.
Exactly. My ancestors joined Christianity because they were enslaved by Christians and forced into Christianity. But the Christian wants to talk about bad about other cults.

Church of Christ, international Christian Church… definitely fit the pattern.
I agree with the beatiful Melissa
Calvinists have adopted all these, honed them and employ them everyday!!!
John 6:44 is your weapon.
This comment doesn't even make any sense. Calvinism doesn't even have a leader. Touch grass or at least find a new obsession.
There are plenty of big name leaders,,, john MacArthur, John piper, rc Sproul, Albert Mohler and countless others.
I can’t stand Calvinism, but no I don’t think its followers fit this.
I think that verse favors Calvinism more than it disproves it. But hey, if you want to make war with fellow believers over second and third rank issues, be my guest.
@@GratiaPrima_ what's funny is that most people I've encountered who see a Calvinistic demon behind every tree, also happen to attend a church with like 6 people and have a pastor with absolute authority and control over the congregation who doesn't allow them to read any Bible version except the KJV.
Something is very wrong with this TH-camr because she fails to understand that all religions and denominations are cult's.
There's nothing wrong with her.

Could it be why they join Christianity too? It is a very interesting video. Sometimes I wish I was Christian, but nothing makes more sense scientifically than Hinduism.
I recommend you read the Bible and ask The Lord Jesus for help knowing his salvation and love for you.
It sound like you are descibing Christianity.
Can you question god? Does the story give your life meaning and a feeling of belonging?
Or do you realize this but is this in your satire section?
No, but Almighty GOD is God, not a man, and yes, it gives the purpose of life and saves the soul. Jesus's( God manifested in human form) followers asked him questions, and he answered them.
“And they probably have done away with gender” 😉
