For me, the elder scrolls games are like the pen and paper rpg’s I played as a kid. It didn’t matter that the world revolves around me, it didn’t matter that the stories had the writing chops of my 8 year old friend, the playing was brilliant fun and I’ll always wish I could go back to those worlds we made. With Skyrim, I can!
That only describes Skyrim. In Oblivion you were the side character and their are quests with good writing in both Skyrim and previous titles. Things like the Thieves Guild quest line in Skyrim, Dark Brotherhood in Oblivion, Blood On The Ice, Forsworn Conspiracy and pretty much every daedric quest had good writing.
@@WordOfYah that’s true, but still, it’s such an 8 year old d&d move - you know the elf has a secret, so you hide at the top of the lighthouse - it doesn’t matter when you hide, it’s always 5 minutes short of when he checks on his secret stash. A more grown up d&d game would have an entire quest first to make him go and check on his stash, maybe you spread rumours around town that you found it or whatever. It’s those moments of “and then” or “just by coincidence“ that are traditionally thought of as ‘bad’, but that’s the charm!
Played Skyrim when it came out when I was in primary school, played it through high school, played it through college, and now here I am playing it working full time in my field almost a year after getting my diploma. I feel like this game has had a big part of my life and set a standard on how play any game at all. So yeah... Thank you for being part of my life Skyrim! And also you Gopher! Hi Gopher, thank you so much for your mods and playthroughs, I am now 63 and have been playing Skyrim since early 2012 (bit of a late starter) the only computer game I had previously played was Baldurs Gate, about a year after starting to play Skyrim I started modding it, I have modded it till it breaks so many times but now I have a stable and playable extensive modded version of Skyrim. It is my hobby modding and playing and thanx to you and the modding community I have learned so much and will finally finnish the game this time around, I have tried many other games but always come back to Skyrim as with the ability to change the play with mods makes me feel like it is my 'own' game that lets me play just how I want to play ... keep up the great work and looking forward to many more years of Syrim-ing

I'm so thankful for Skyrim, without I wouldn't have a favorite game, I wouldn't know how to make mods or build a PC, this game is a huge deal to me. I started playing it during high school, now I'm 26 living up north where I'm surrounded by pine trees and it is very Skyrim-esque outside. The game has a certain vibe that I cannot get enough of, I really can't explain. I'm glad you still love it and you're still playing it, as I don't feel so alone cuz I never stopped playing it lol.
I still have my very first "real" character, a Khajiit called Dar'ishek (ishek is my tag on every game, 'dar' iirc was the khajiit word for thief). So much great memories playing Skyrim, sharing stuff with friends AND watching playthroughs like non other than Lenny! And oh my God the Skyrim Mod Sactuary was amazing, thank you so so SO much for those videos Gopher

I accidentally made the quest of Grelod, got the "WE KNOW" letter, and got kidnapped by Astrid... The whole sequence was so cool that I said "screw the warrior approach this is awesome, make an assassin and learn to stealth"
My younger brother accidentally saved over all my characters save slots. He was barely literate at the time, and didn't realise that the save slots were shared between characters ._.

I just as of July 2022 brought back my Skyrim. This time to my new gaming laptop....I am having immense fun again with it. The modding community i left a few yrs ago is there and its thriving huge still. Countless of mods skattered across the lovely internet. I have this game for my PS3, PS4, I had the original vanilla version back 10 yrs ago on my old PC. Now i have it and am enjoying playing in the fabulous land of Skyrim. Thank you Skyrim family and Bethesda, ya thanks to you too.

I moved to Chicago the Summer before 11-11-11 and was ready to wait in line at the local Gamestop. I was new in town so didn't realize how big the crowd would be. By the time midnight hit it was madness. But I got my copy, popped the game into my console (an XBox at the time) and stayed up for the next three days playing. I'm slightly disappointed that I won't be waiting in the cold tonight. Happy Skyrim Day to all you Dovahkiin!!
So good to hear from you again. I am currently running 46 mods including an ENB on the newest update. Race Menu was broken due to SKSE so it made me a Nord by default. All other functions on the menu worked as expected. I plan to add a few at a time and see how it progresses. Learning from you has been a great pleasure through the years. I can't wait for our next adventure!

I love Skyrim and I will not stop playing for years!! A lot depends on the mod community, because it is always just as exciting to start a new game with new mods and new adventures.

Morrowind still has a special place in my heart as the first Elder Scrolls game I played, but it's Skyrim I keep coming back to - in fact, I'm in the middle of setting up my mods for a new playthrough as we speak :) Here's to the next ten years!
I remember getting the game on my birthday and honestly it’s become something of a comfort game for me; going back to it to play in it even unmodded continues to be a fun experience for me. In addition, content creators like you have shown me the modded experience and kept interest in the game alive
I've always wished it was possible to wipe my memory of playing Skyrim for the first time just so I could experience it again. Going from not playing any games since the days of Quake and Doom days to that was mind-blowing. I remember being amazed that I could just walk and walk and walk and not reach the end of the map. The music is the real hero I think. These days I'm a big fan of Generation Zero, in terms of landscape it looks similar to Skyrim (set in Sweden), but with much better detail and performance. Very different games of course, but both have that beautiful forest feel. It has really excellent rendering of distant objects too. (except for those radio masts) Soon enough graphics quality will plateau if it hasn't already, and game companies will have to provide the nuts and bolts of great story and gameplay in order to stand out.
10 years later, I got over 55 different characters over 30000 hours, and I truly truly love this game, and I have no doubt its a game we'll all be bashing and loving long after I die. Guaranteed, Skyrim is going to be the immortal meme.
I still play mod free on my switch and I played it for 5 years with no mods when it first came out. Its just a good game with or without mods. The mods are definitely a major plus but the base game unmodded is still on my all time top 10 list

If you ever want to make a step by step video again of modding on a modern computer I would be eternally grateful. I was a little late to Skyrim; I bought it in 2012. I don't play very many games, and Skyrim's been a great one to have. With LE and SE combined, I've played well over 2,000 hours. There are still things in the game that I haven't done in a while, have only done once, or haven't done at all. I haven't totally figured out a balance of the roleplay and gameplay aspects. But it's true: The game keeps drawing me back. And I echo the thanks to Gopher for all the related content!
For all the late nights of modding and tweaking my game to make it perfect and starting a character that I'd never really finish. And for all those memories in the world and setting they created in Skyrim and the elder scrolls as a whole. Ill never stop picking it back up year after year and for that, thank you Skyrim.

I've been playing it since 11/11/11. Yes there are more photo realistic games and there are some great plot lines, but Skyrim is the only game I can project myself into as if it is another life.

I'm a console player and I love this game too. Never played Skyrim on a pc, so I only have access to mods since a couple of years. So at least for me, it was never about the mods that made me come back to it. The reason for me was and is that Skyrim is a great game (and what is imo even more important) a great experience, that can always be different depending on you and your way of approaching it. Well, I started out playing this game as a "game". I did the same with Morrowind and Oblivion. Truth is, it took my daughter turning me onto Gopher's Vids before I realized Skyrim is soooo much more than a "game". Yes, it's fantasy, yes, it's not real life, but when you play it with a character that has a back story and you stick to the back story, it becomes something else. Something great and wonderful, still just a game, but now it's YOUR game! Not something any other RPG can say (imo). I THANK GOPHER for taking what I thought was a great game and turning it into MY game. Thank you, Gopher.
I haven't played Skyrim in 9 years .... primarily because I literally did everything in it, Vanilla. Well, sort of, I think a couple of years ago I played half an hour before getting really bored with it. Whereas I played Morrowind at least 3 times, one of those just before the release of Skyrim. That's why I watched so much of your playthroughs with Lenny and "Inigo" because I was familiar with it all. It was an enjoyable experience without a spoilers aspect (except where the mods were concerned) and I liked your sense of humour with Lenny travelling with Inigo.
Watching the early Leonard videos (into the Dark Brotherhood stuff last night) and I woke with a tummy ache. My first thought for some reason was the bastard has poisoned me! :)

When I think about Skyrim, the first image which comes to my mind is this : Me, reading "The Argonian Maid" on the balcony of my Riften house, letting the last rays of light warming my skin. Then, I close the book and contemplate the beauty of Lake Henrich under the fire of a dying sun. Skyrim is actually an english garden within everyone's reach. I recently felt this kind of nostalgic thought as I was playing to "The Forgotton City" an (excellent) adventure game, born from a Skyrim mod... Happy Birthday Skyrim!
Now what is needed as a follow up to this video is a personal letter from Bethesda's dev team to Gopher simply saying "Your welcome for adding the barrels."

I have great memories with this game. It was the first game I build a PC to play it on. It was my first game I doce into the world of modding (as a user). Today I don't think I'd be able to enjoy it as much because of games like Witcher 3 and Dark Souls that are just better in certain imprtant aspects. But it'll always have a special place in my heart.
I completely agree with you, Gopher. I have been playing skyrim for 10 years as well, and I still enjoy it greatly. I play every day still. The only other games I play are oblivion and minecraft, generally only when I don't have internet access and I can't get skyrim to work. I mostly play thief and warrior, occasionally a mage(but I currently can't get faralda to train me). The first rpg I played was an old game called Secret of the Silver Blades, and I have been pretty much only playing rpgs since. So I also thank Bethesda.

@@lorddrakkon5336 the first time I pick up the game I made a Nord, and I didn't understand stealth AT ALL. I accidentally made the quest of Grelod, got the "WE KNOW" letter, and got kidnapped by Astrid... The whole sequence was so cool that I said "screw the warrior approach this is awesome, make an assassin and learn to stealth"

My younger brother accidentally saved over all my characters save slots. He was barely literate at the time, and didn't realise that the save slots were shared between characters ._.

I just as of July 2022 brought back my Skyrim. This time to my new gaming laptop....I am having immense fun again with it. The modding community i left a few yrs ago is there and its thriving huge still. Countless of mods skattered across the lovely internet. I have this game for my PS3, PS4, I had the original vanilla version back 10 yrs ago on my old PC. Now i have it and am enjoying playing in the fabulous land of Skyrim. Thank you Skyrim family and Bethesda, ya thanks to you too.
I haven't played Skyrim in a few years and even though I absolutely agree with you and I love this game too, right now it is more fun to watch you play it then to play it myself. So thank you Gopher!

I moved to Chicago the Summer before 11-11-11 and was ready to wait in line at the local Gamestop. I was new in town so didn't realize how big the crowd would be. By the time midnight hit it was madness. But I got my copy, popped the game into my console (an XBox at the time) and stayed up for the next three days playing. I'm slightly disappointed that I won't be waiting in the cold tonight. Happy Skyrim Day to all you Dovahkiin!!
So good to hear from you again. I am currently running 46 mods including an ENB on the newest update. Race Menu was broken due to SKSE so it made me a Nord by default. All other functions on the menu worked as expected. I plan to add a few at a time and see how it progresses. Learning from you has been a great pleasure through the years. I can't wait for our next adventure!
Skyrim is my favorite game of all time. I won't call it a perfect game but I will call it *my* perfect game. Happy 10 years and in total seriousness here's to 10 more

Your VR playthrough is great. Leonard is the best character because it gets you so deep into may parts of the game, but the VR playthrough is great because it gets you deep into a whole new aspect of the game, player acted physical humor.

I love Skyrim and I will not stop playing for years!! A lot depends on the mod community, because it is always just as exciting to start a new game with new mods and new adventures.
And thank you Gopher for so many years of fabulous Skyrim content. Morrowind still has a special place in my heart as the first Elder Scrolls game I played, but it's Skyrim I keep coming back to - in fact, I'm in the middle of setting up my mods for a new playthrough as we speak :) Here's to the next ten years!
I remember getting the game on my birthday and honestly it’s become something of a comfort game for me; going back to it to play in it even unmodded continues to be a fun experience for me. In addition, content creators like you have shown me the modded experience and kept interest in the game alive
I've always wished it was possible to wipe my memory of playing Skyrim for the first time just so I could experience it again. Going from not playing any games since the days of Quake and Doom days to that was mind-blowing. I remember being amazed that I could just walk and walk and walk and not reach the end of the map. The music is the real hero I think. These days I'm a big fan of Generation Zero, in terms of landscape it looks similar to Skyrim (set in Sweden), but with much better detail and performance. Very different games of course, but both have that beautiful forest feel. It has really excellent rendering of distant objects too. (except for those radio masts) Soon enough graphics quality will plateau if it hasn't already, and game companies will have to provide the nuts and bolts of great story and gameplay in order to stand out.
10 years later, I got over 55 different characters over 30000 hours, and I truly truly love this game, and I have no doubt its a game we'll all be bashing and loving long after I die. Guaranteed, Skyrim is going to be the immortal meme.
I still play mod free on my switch and I played it for 5 years with no mods when it first came out. Its just a good game with or without mods. The mods are definitely a major plus but the base game unmodded is still on my all time top 10 list

I was a little late to Skyrim; I bought it in 2012. I don't play very many games, and Skyrim's been a great one to have. With LE and SE combined, I've played well over 2,000 hours. There are still things in the game that I haven't done in a while, have only done once, or haven't done at all. I haven't totally figured out a balance of the roleplay and gameplay aspects. But it's true: The game keeps drawing me back.
And I echo the thanks to Gopher for all the related content!
I love this game it is and always will be my go to....I suffer from depression and it actually helps to slay dragons and bandits lol

For all the late nights of modding and tweaking my game to make it perfect and starting a character that I'd never really finish. And for all those memories in the world and setting they created in Skyrim and the elder scrolls as a whole. Ill never stop picking it back up year after year and for that, thank you Skyrim.
Thanks Gopher. First for teaching me how to mod. Now I am up to 150+ per game. Thanks for the anniversary nod. Skyrim is probably the best video game to date on so many levels. I've been playing it since 11/11/11. Yes there are more photo realistic games and there are some great plot lines, but Skyrim is the only game I can project myself into as if it is another life.

My favourite thing about Skyrim is that it gave us Gopher.

I'm a console player and I love this game too. Never played Skyrim on a pc, so I only have access to mods since a couple of years. So at least for me, it was never about the mods that made me come back to it. The reason for me was and is that Skyrim is a great game (and what is imo even more important) a great experience, that can always be different depending on you and your way of approaching it.

Well, I started out playing this game as a "game". I did the same with Morrowind and Oblivion. Truth is, it took my daughter turning me onto Gopher's Vids before I realized Skyrim is soooo much more than a "game". Yes, it's fantasy, yes, it's not real life, but when you play it with a character that has a back story and you stick to the back story, it becomes something else. Something great and wonderful, still just a game, but now it's YOUR game! Not something any other RPG can say (imo). I THANK GOPHER for taking what I thought was a great game and turning it into MY game. Thank you, Gopher.
I haven't played Skyrim in 9 years .... primarily because I literally did everything in it, Vanilla. Well, sort of, I think a couple of years ago I played half an hour before getting really bored with it. Whereas I played Morrowind at least 3 times, one of those just before the release of Skyrim. That's why I watched so much of your playthroughs with Lenny and "Inigo" because I was familiar with it all. It was an enjoyable experience without a spoilers aspect (except where the mods were concerned) and I liked your sense of humour with Lenny travelling with Inigo.
Also it's _Sir_ Christopher Lee, and you're right: he's _always_ a win.

I have great memories with this game. It was the first game I build a PC to play it on. It was my first game I doce into the world of modding (as a user).
Today I don't think I'd be able to enjoy it as much because of games like Witcher 3 and Dark Souls that are just better in certain imprtant aspects. But it'll always have a special place in my heart.

I completely agree with you, Gopher. I have been playing skyrim for 10 years as well, and I still enjoy it greatly. I play every day still. The only other games I play are oblivion and minecraft, generally only when I don't have internet access and I can't get skyrim to work. I mostly play thief and warrior, occasionally a mage(but I currently can't get faralda to train me). The first rpg I played was an old game called Secret of the Silver Blades, and I have been pretty much only playing rpgs since. So I also thank Bethesda.

I am still a bit torn 😕 about the anniversary edition ,since it's a addon to SSE and it doesn't come as a standalone edition.
the reason being that I am doing a let's play with a lot mods ,I found thanks to you Gopher 😊 plus a decent amount of your mods inculcated.
on the other hand ✋I am a big fan of the elder scrolls and I really do want the anniversary edition very much.
