This is Alternate Skyrim, a game-changing mod released earlier this year that wipes out Skyrim's NPC's to make Skyrim a post-apocalyptic world, in a sort of Skyrim meets Fallout concept. With its optional World-Eater add-on, this mod also adds a Breath of the Wild or Tears of the Kingdom-style open mission to defeat Alduin, with the potential for taking back each ruined city from his Dragon followers and their swarms of Draugr minions first. This mod is compatible with both Skyrim Special Edition and the Anniversary Edition update.
I've paired Alternate Skyrim with a bunch of other survival, scavenging, and resource-management mods in an attempt to turn Skyrim into a Roguelike Survival game. This is my first permadeath attempt at defeating Alduin in this post-apocalyptic modded world.
Alternate Skyrim is still in development and has an active community working on add-ons for the post-apocalyptic world. The day after I posted this video, a new beta version released and the mod name changed to "Shattered - A Post-Apocalyptic Skyrim". If you're interested in learning more, you can find a link to the Discord in the Posts section of Alternate Skyrim's Nexus page.

Thanks for watching everyone! Please leave a comment if you want to see more attempts of this challenge -- featuring new twists and post-apocalyptic add-ons each time!
More of this please. 😅
More plz bro
More! I need more!
More!
The most obvious mod for the DRAGON BORNE is to Help the Dragons return to power, defeat the armies of the bipeds, and help the World Eater eat the world...
which would lead to a new world, a completely new map, with all the races (or all new races) enslaved and serving their Dragon overlords, with the dragon mask dragon priests back in power. Since the dragonborn has a dragon soul trapped in a biped body, his/her main goal will be to return to True dragon form.
I liked how realistic the ending was. In the time of the apocalypse, it takes only a slight misstep to end any hero's journey.
The best permadeaths are the ones that make you regretful that you did things better or did things different
RIP Survivor. Another one lost to the Apocalypse
By misstep you mean a literal fucking 6 feet drop
@@arandomcommenter412tbh that ending was bullshit. i know it was trying to be realistic but that was SO fucking stupid. how could you die from a fall like that?
I love this comment because, although I read it before finishing the video, I didn't even take note of how much of a foreshadowing your use of the word "misstep" was 😂
Reminds me of Project Zomboid. It doesn't matter if a six foot stumble is "unlikely" to kill you. It's something that you probably shouldn't do. You can probably jump down from a second story or vault while running over a fence or push your way past a couple zombies.... You'll probably not die to a single scratch, you'll probably not get bitten in that fumble with your weapon. But you really shouldn't risk it if you can help it, and if you do, there's *always* a risk. With games like this you put EVERYTHING up, and outside of a total and obvious glitch, well everyone has to make a judgement call on what's fair
"Remind yourself that gravity is a slow and insidious killer." - some Ancestor, probably
Yes, please do more runs of Shattered Skyrim if you're so inclined. Nice to see this in action.
More like fast and insidious killer
@@Orange_Antit’s a bethesda special
Pitch Black Basement fans when the biological predecessor says a funny line (his voice is incredible)
Nice darkest dungeon reference
Falling about 8 feet, turning your ankle on a rock, and breaking your skull open against the cliff face is a pretty realistic death.
The idea of an enemy seeing you and running away to get reinforcements is really good. Adds a new consideration to the gameplay.
It's pretty annoying in practice when you don't play an archer build. Enemies that are bulky as a truck decide to run away to bring like ten more, just as strong enemies you have no shot against.
Because they're both too fast to catch and too durable to take down in time you're instantly forced to abandon whatever shelter you were planning to use which gets seriously aggravating with how often it happens.
@@ultikrill5554that sounds amazing
@@potprince2169 ditto, makes you reconsider whether or not you're a "one-man-army" when a literal army rolls up at your doorstep
Hey, these runes spells might finally get to shine properly
Such an underrated mod, glad to see someone actually covering it
Stealth archer build is inevitable.
This isn't vanilla anymore. Besides, he's not going full archer, he's using the arrows to save up on his magicka.
Stealth Archer was an overdone play.
Next video: Half an hour of haunting Drelas, tossing all of his items all over his house, using his crafting stations whenever he tries to, and speaking to him each time he attempts to go to bed.
He has to endure 97 days. Then the world ends.
I’d love to see more of this survival adventure. It seems so easy to turn this into a story for the ages. I’d love to role play on this mode
It’s really cool that they turned the Jarls into bosses/mini bosses instead of just being tough Draugr or nonexistent.
That was very entertaining! I'd sure like to see more episodes of this :)
Glad you enjoyed it!
@@FormerlyBluedo the mods work on xbox
I liked the way you presented the mod in your playthrough. It actually made me get immersed in the world a few times during the video. Keep up the good work!
Thanks, glad you enjoyed!
The way the mods were introduced one by one was actually really engaging.
I hope you do a full run. While perma death has its appeal, seeing a whole run in such videos is much more satisfying. Thank you for the video
I would love this as well
Yeah, permadeath is always shit.
there's quite a few add ons for alternate skyrim now - forgotten knowledge, dragon remnants, ghosts of the past, haunted, forbidden goods, ebony warrior, classes, LOTD, hirelings, horror of morthal, human enemies. I like adding cave style player homes like falkreath cave house and hidden hideouts.
Yep, I'd like to feature some of those add-ons in future attempts!
its what has always made the mod one of the better ones for the game as i mean playing through the Helgan part over and over is so boring that it at one point made me never want to start a new game but with this mod i can start each char with a different start and using the meet your own chars i have the best followers as they are the way i built them with all the items they had when i last saved them to that mods hall of heros and even with this mod that mod works so you can have a group of followers with you if you set them all to a point you know is safe and combined with AFT it also means you can have more than one of them with you which helps when you mess up and enter an area where your likely to get messed up as you can set them to only be able to be killed by your char which i admit i have done once or twice with AOE spells but hey no mage is perfect
You got me sitting here for an hour after the video thinking about general implications to the world. Did Miraak conquer Solstheim? Are the Vampires holed up in their castle? Has Dawnguard Castle become the last Living settlement in Skyrim? Is it possible the College of Winterhold escaped into Blackreach?
I loved this! Your commentary is incredible. Sad to see it end like that so I really hope you attempt it again😊
Thanks for letting me know you want to see another round!
Loved it! Would like to see you give it another go and see more of the post-apocalyptic Skyrim and how far you get.
Glad you enjoyed!
The atmosphere of this modpack is jaw-dropping! I'd love to see what you'll cook up with future post-apocalyptic videos
Yea, I would be curious to see what enb and flora mods he is using
Yes! Thanks for doing a longer video on this!
This is such an interesting concept. There are few post apocalyptic fantasy setting so this is cool. not to mention I love challenge runs. please continue.
Yoo! Love that you made a part 2. If I may, there's another mod (kind of) similar to this called Chanterelle, it's a huge new world space with minimal NPCs built for survivalism. You should try it sometime!
I've heard of Chanterelle; is it finished? Is it compatible with other survival mods?
@@FormerlyBlue I never knew of it being in-dev, but the Xbox port looks good so I'd imagine it's playable on PC, as for the survival mods, assuming you mean iNeed, Frostfall, and Campfire, the MA pretty much says they're necessary to experience the mod properly.
@@FormerlyBlueyeah it’s finished
This was amazing man, one of the best stpry telling experiences I had in a long time
Recently had my Skyrim interest spark again and I found this video. I was so engrossed in it not just because of the mods and gameplay but also because of your commentary. Awesome.
This honestly looks like so much fun! Would absolutely love to revisit Skyrim with these mods.
This has certainly earned a sub. I love your voice, your story telling/ Narration is so good i dont even need to be tabbed into the video to know exactly whats happening, and most of all, i just enjoyed it.
Glad you enjoyed! :)
This is really refreshing, and you present it so well. I enjoyed every second of it. I'd love to watch a full series on this, without the perma death thing. Just continue if you die :D
Thanks for the video, appreciate your time and effort in making this.
Thanks; glad to hear it! I think I like the permadeath aspect too much to get rid of that, but if I had a really short attempt I'd probably include multiple attempts in one video.
This was great! I would love to see more runs like this one. The post-apocalyptic Skyrim mod is really cool, and it's fun watching someone try to survive in such an environment.
Need to see more! Glad this popped up on my recommended, earned a sub
I’d love to see another video of this! It’d be even more awesome if you continue in the same save but with a different character, you get what I mean? Anyways, loved this video!
Bro i just wanna tell you that the graphics and gameplay and the system is all perfect, the magic, perks, animation, just everything. It looks so good and 4k!
saw this mod when it came out two or three months ago and im so glad to see a video covering it. looks great man, quality video
i dont usually watch playthroughs, but this was so entertaining to watch! great concept and great narration.
I wish you all the success for your channel, you're doing such an high quality and entertaining job !
Thanks so much!
I was hoping for something like Frost to come out for Skyrim. This seems thematically appropriate too
Really great video. I was hooked from the beginning, because it really feels totaly immersive. I would love a 2nd part or even a series. And please if you do continue, keep the perma death. Its sad that the video ended so abruptly but it makes watching your encounters so much more exciting and thrilling.
This looks incredible. I'd love to see a series of this!
This video is really inspiring for video ideas. Using mods to completely change Skyrim is nothing new but the creative set of mods here is perfect. Great work my man. I’d love to make my own sort of video on this topic. I’m thinking of uploading a similar thing if you don’t mind. I love Skyrim and have been looking for some unique ways to play it and you really have created something cool here, I’ll be sure to credit you!
I really liked this, please consider more runs with this mod! I'm curious to know how the Alduin add-on quest progression works
Stunning quality mate would love to see this as a series!
yo this was fire i really hope you do another one of these post apocalypse skyrim videos
Thanks, working on it now!
Love this! Please continue, we need mooooooore!!
Thanks, I'm hoping to! There are some cool new add-ons for Alternate Skyrim that I'd like to try out in future attempts.
@@FormerlyBluetry adding some npcs.
This is great I’d love to see more
Glad to hear it!
oh this was suuuper fun to watch, would love to se more videos of this run!
I'd absolutely love to see another playthrough of this!!
This was awesome, super engaging! I’d love a part 2
Edit: I think doing non-permadeath (or maybe like… you get 5 deaths or something) could be worth it, realistically, to try to make it so we actually get to see through to alduin.
A couple questions about the mods that aren't in the description:
1. what was the melee combat mod?
2. what mod makes the world so bright and colorful?
3. what mod gives the enemies the health bars and damage numbers over their heads?
I would also love to know this!
TrueHUD
I want to see so much more of this!
Its a concept i honestly didn't expect, but want to see explored much further
this video was a blast to watch. please make more videos doing this challenge! it'd make for such a fun and interesting series
Man, this game is 12 years old, but it just refuses to die.
One of the greatest games ever made and one of my favorites.
Very nice
Thanks, glad you enjoyed!
Glad this popped up on the recommendations 👍🏻 great video
I really loved what you did there man, I would 100% watch a whole series of that type of video.
Bro sounds like one of those Reddit ai voices
Thats because it is an AI voice, but it's actually sampled from their real voice. The creator uses it because they have a pretty prominent stutter, so the AI allows them to make higher quality videos than if they were to do the voice over themselves.
Is that an AI voice or am I going insane?
It is indeed! You have a good ear. th-cam.com/video/MeywONDX1g8/w-d-xo.html
I thought I was going crazy 😭
THANK YOU I WAS LOOKING FOR THIS, FINALLY I CAN REST IN PEACE
Amazing content! I would love to see a full series of this!
Great video, had to subscribe because i am now invested in seeing you beat this mod
Your voice kinda sounds like ai
…. Hmmm 🤔
It is AI. I thought the same so looked into it, he has a video on his channel explaining that he has a stutter so trained an AI on his voice to speak for him. A great use of the technology, but a tad bit dishonest to not clearly state that in the description imo. I'm fairly certain he uses it to write his scripts too, but have no concrete evidence of such.
@@Sacomoponycam interesting....
@Sacomoponycam i thought so to. Glad he found a good use for ai and hes not just lazy
Is that an AI voice
Either that or he needs to actually add some emotion to his narrating cuz that's one of the huge cons to his vids
It is, the very first video on this channel explains it pretty well. FormerlyBlue has a serious stutter making a script very difficult and time consuming to read aloud. It's an AI recreation of his voice so he can put out these videos.
Cant wait for next episode!Very nice video bro :D
we need more attempts at this mod, it's just incredible how good it is, and your narration makes it much better
The best skyrim challenge i have seen in a long time! Would love to see you keep going.
Please do more of this. This was really awesome. I’d love to see a short series.
Definitely Subbing for this. This mod is incredibly cool, the production quality is awesome. I literally cannot wait to see more.
Loved the video, was really fun seeing a proper playthrough of it from you! I also really liked hearing your genuine reaction at the end, I hope we can get more of your reactions spliced in between your narration! Looking forward to next run of this😉
I thoroughly enjoyed this video! Great commentary and visuals. Good work!
would love to see more playthroughs of this! i feel like theyd only get better the more you learn
This is the first video of you ive seen. But yes. I want more of this post apocalypse skyrim. Please do.
Please do more of these narrated adventures very entertaining. Subbed to see more.
We all wanna see more! I absolutely love this idea, and I think you should do more attempts!
Need a series of this. Video was awesome great editing got my sub hopefully you do more longer form content like this
Pleasantly surprised to see a follow-up video. I would love to see more of this!
Cool, thanks for letting me know!
I love me some good survival playthroughs and fantastic storytelling. This is such a fun watch, thank you good sir!
Do more of this! You're an underrated skyrim channel, and you're showing off such an underrated mod! You need to do more of this mod.
Always fun to see challenge and mod runs like this mixing up games we've all played dozens of times.
This is the coolest modpack I’ve ever seen. I would love to see more of this or different modded challenges too
This was WAY too interesting, more content from this would be awesome
Fuck yeah Im pumped that you made a video on this mod. It's been hard to find information on how it actually works anywhere
This is a really fun idea for a series, and I would love to see more!
I love this type of video. I definitely wanna see more of this series and definitely until you survive until the 100th day and fight alduin. It would be great if you continued this series
Idk whens the next time I'll play Skyrim but I'm doing this too. Thanks for the idea. Great video.
Love this mod, you are the only I see covering it. Please keep it up
Loved this journey! I really liked your narration seemed like I was present in a DnD session.
I love this man you should make more of this mod series my first time watching your vids this made me wanna sub lol
Make more content around this mod and your runs through it! Very fun watch!

This is awesome, hoping that you'd do a full playthrough!
Can't wait to see more of your videos! Really enjoyed this and the previous ones
Thanks; glad to hear it!
Would love to see more attempts, this mod list looks so cool
I like the way you did this. Story backed by video.
Liked and subscribed, hoping to see a full play through of this! Looks absolutely amazing!
This video alone made me want to play Skyrim again, and I'm not even talking about with this mod set (Though I definitely do want to try this out) so I think you should absolutely do more of this, maybe as a little series?
Just found the channel and can't wait for more content! Please make more of these runs.
This was such a good video! I haven't watched a skyrim play through in ages, but the story telling and gameplay was fantastic! Id love to see more of this.
Thanks, there is more! Check out the vid I posted right after this one.
That was awesome! I would love to see more attempts!
I hope you do more of this challenge - alongside how in-depth the mod is, your narration style is one of my favorites that I've heard on the platform. Props, man - I hope your stuff blows up sometime, you deserve the attention c:
bro just made a whole new game with skyrim assets basically like this is so cool mods are wild
You earned yourself a subscriber, great video, was really immersive! Continue on this thread!
