You are very sweet and thank you for the lovely compliment and for enjoying our channel, I can remember years ago when we lived away and not having any access to our traditional recipes or ingredients. This is something I've been wanting to do to help people thats living all over the world that would like to have a Newfoundland and Labrador recipe to cook. Enjoy and share any of our recipes with your family and friend to enjoy as well. :) Bonita
Once again a dish that I thought was almost unique to my home place, the northeast of England! Over there it's considered a Geordie delicacy, from Tyneside, so I'm chuffed to bits to see you make it, Bonita. 😊 My mam used to make it and we could buy it ready made too, delicious. 👍
Hi and thank you so much I feel our cultural recipes are pretty similar and years ago our elders was apart of the British Descent and in 1949 we joined Canada. Most of our elders recipes I try to keep alive in our channel so everyone can get to enjoy them whenever they like. Thank you for sharing with us so many nice sayings that we are so familiar with. Thx for the recipe in the pan. I always only did pudding bag. I never soaked the peas until recent. I don't find a difference although they say soaking causes less gas and lessens boiling time. Either way you can't go wrong. I must say Raymond is one lucky man!
Hi Peter, Thank you for your message and for stopping by, soaking the peas helps speed up cooking time in the pudding bag or saucepan and I guess your right about it helps less the gas thats what our elders would say. I'm so glad enjoyed our recipe and thank you once again. :) Bonita
Hi Angie: Thank you for your message and for stopping by, I can remember when we visit the U.S. and I cooked the green split peas and they taste the same, just look different. I hope you get to make some of our peas pudding. Enjoy Bonita

@@bonitaskitchen Thanks for the link Bonita. We enjoy our fried bread with butter and a small sprinkle of seasoning salt (Lawry's). I like the idea of the fried egg, it just sounds yummy!!! Tell Raymond Hi for me, Thanks...Peace!!! Bill
NO! The reason I say that is split peas while its cooking gives off lots of foam that can bubble over the saucepan or pressure cooker. Maybe one of our viewers made it in a pressure cooker before if so they will add to my message. Slow cook it and soak it over night to soften the split peas, cooking it in the pudding bag you don't have to babysit it only make sure the boiler don't boil dry. I hope this helps. :) Bonita
Thank you Boniita.. just to add to your presentation... in India we have it with rice and raw chopped spring onions and green chilies spring mixed into the peas with a squeeze of lemon .

Not the same as salt beef, no way a cottage roll is, but it does add flavor to the boiled vegetables, a half desent pot liqour , and is the best substitue I can find up here. And needs boiling and simmering, so lots of time to have on the pease pudding in the bag, if you forgot to soak beforehand. ha Happy Thanksgiving. Love to you and yours. Thanks for your channel.
