This is the Disney's Mulan I missed. I really hate the 2020 one. For one reason, I love Mulan and her father's sweet and intimate relationship here better than the new one. Another reason; Mulan is more likeable here than the new one; like the emphasis in her character is her will and determination, not to mention her humor, not some chi power or some other physical special abilities. And last reason, the 2020 version removed one of the most essential characters in the Disney's Mulan: General Li Shang.
_Mulan_ was Oscar-nominated for *Best Score* but lost to _Shakespeare in Love._ None of the songs were nominated, though. That year, "When You Believe" from _The Prince of Egypt_ won for *Best Song.*
@@musicaltheatergeek79 ironically, you can say that the entire score plus the songs were nominated in one specific category which was musical/comedy score (including the songs plus lyrics), at least it was something despite no song category (like what happened to Alan menken and Stephen Schwatrz in HunchBack) so it was kind of a win win scenario, makes sense?
Sad disney doesnt make movies like this now. With all the cgi stuff they're doing some I accept but most of them are mediocre compared to the 2d films.
I’d say it’s moreso their live action films that don’t have this same level of artistic integrity and expression. I think some of their animated films are still well written and animated but their live action lacks the soul they were known for back then
"From Legend to Life The Making of Mulan," did not disappoint. I had hoped it would address the usage of CGI in the film, and it did, except I thought the Great Wall and the crowds in the capital city were computer-generated as well.
1] This movie was also about misogyny, which, though this is much bolder within the film, itself, is still very much around today. It's taken various new forms, but it's still there. 2] Shortly after seeing this movie for the first time [I was 7], I went into our bathroom and tried to cut my own hair, like Mulan did with her father's sword. My mom found me in there and panicked, and she immediately drove me to the beauty salon to correct what small amount of damage I'd been able to do. After being told what had happened, the head stylist giggled and said they'd received several calls from nervous mothers, whose little girls had done the same thing I had. 3] This movie was my introduction to both Donny Osmond AND Stevie Wonder. I'd heard their names many times before, but I'd never heard either of them sing. (9/24/2023)

Funny how people assumed Mulan animayed action movie was made without any attention to the historical aspect until they actually look up what went to into making the animated one
Finally, a proper behind the scenes look at Mulan that shows the actors recording their lines and talking about their characters
I know I ahet when they don't show it for the old ones

I just want to know why Eddie Murphy wasn't interviewed in this movie for voicing Mushu

Let's say he was busy with Dr Dolittle.
Probably too big to get for this piece. It's Eddie Murphy.

Same. At least show some recording videos or footage of him. It's like he was never there.

Yea and prob super expensive 😂 but tbh we don’t know if he recited the movie after the eng dub (most likely) or during the movie making process 🤷♀️
But martial arts is a skill anyone can learn so yes a white British man can teach on martial arts , being Asian doesn’t make you the leading expert

"What is CGI?"
Sadly Chinese audiences at the time complained that things were too westernized.
But soon they fell in love with it too ;)
Technically, they are correct.
Xiran Jay Zhao made a video about this film and said that even Chinese made historical fantasies don't focus that much on accuracy.
