My wife said the bamboo is called 'Sang Mon' in Thai. It is a clumping variety so does not make problems with foundation, plumbing or anything (although it is not planted near any plumbing). It only spreads close to the main culms and only once a year at the beginning of the raining season. and then is it easy to cut back if the new shoots are coming up to close to the driveway.
