Hey guys. I stumbled across this video (thanks TH-cam algorithm) and love the concept. Similarly to yourselves, I regularly binge watch the same channels you had featured in your video (plus a few more) and I even threw up some hard earned coin to Stephan's GoFund Me page in his legal battle with DCS (I suspect DCS's days as a business entity will be numbered as a result).
Speaking of TH-camrs helping each other out to promote their respective channels, there is a Tuber that I've been following for a while now that you could maybe feature on a future 'Yarn' video to help him along on his TH-cam journey. His name is Deezel and his channel is 'Getting Around Aus - Camper Trailer Travellin'. He's just your average dad that loves camping and touring with his family, he does product reviews, vehicle builds - all the usual stuff you'd expect. I love the fact that he's really passionate about what he does and he's having a red hot crack at the whole TH-cam thing. Anyway, please check him out and possibly consider running a brief feature of his channel in a future Yarn video 👍

I look for accurate reviews of products before buying something I am interested in If channels feel compelled to only publish "positive" reviews it defeats the purpose of a 'review. I really enjoy The Outdoor Gear Review channel. All products are bought by himself so no agenda. He gives his honest pros and cons after testing and will actually tell companies to take a product off the market if he feels it is dangerous. He gives a lot of gear away to youth groups and anything that he considers below par gets chucked in the bin. He has earned respect and has a big channel and following. its a breath of fresh air. Finally just want to say love the Off Track Yarns talk its a great idea!!!
That's sounds like an amazing channel, I'll go check him out! The freedom that comes if you can earn enough money to buy the products yourself would be amazing. I'd say I'm running 50/50 at the moment I'll buy alot of products but also help the small new companies break into the market if they send me something to review.

Your point about click bait is spot on. It’s certainly turning me off watching the channels that do it and I refuse to click on these now.
I think if enough people stop the views will go down and the channels will have no option but to stop.

@@Off.Track4x4it would really interesting to see the demographic they are pulling. I would also say I see Caravan Adventure Aus going this way, their headlines lately haven’t been great which is disappointing as I really like them.
TIAV are the GOATS they did become irrelevant to me once they had the 300 and boat though. The big bash videos were the first I have watched in a while land it felt good again.
Yes I agree with your "click bait" comments. I always struggle to do a good thumbnail and often a title for my content and I don't use click bait.
I have to say I agree I've ever seen you use click bate in your titles, I guess it just comes down to if your happy annoying some people in the hope of getting more views.

Well done for speaking up about what most people are too scared to say. I choose not to click on their thumbnails purely because I know it's click bait. If they used normal thumbnails of them just enjoying their travels I'd be much more inclined to click on their videos. Nothing wrong with the occasional click bait lol but every video is just going way too far. Keep up the good work boy's 👍🍻

I used to watch SKT, stopped and unsubscribed after the insane amount of click bait. It was ridiculous and still is, EVERY SINGLE video is some dramatic issue (worst day on our trip, we are broken etc) and in reality he just dropped his toast on the floor 🙄 Our Whittle Adventure actually said in a recent video he tried clickbait because he saw others doing it and isnt happy with video views. He ended up saying he wont do it anymore and i hope that's true. I found TIAV overrated, and when another channel commented on how mean they apparently are, it made sense for me. Elnick is probs my fave channel, them and Wild Touring seem so real and genuine. JS Adventures is the same, small but genuine. Ive gone off Lifestyle Pioneers as I found they've started clickbait and used to enjoy Feel Good Family but that seems to have turned into a wannabe-tv show and they show themselves doing multiple 'takes' when they havent said something right and I find that not genuine. Its not a movie, we just want real people.

Really likes the part about channels not being genuine. I think it's so easy to get carried away trying to make TH-cam a high end production, when in reality people just want raw real content. You may not believe this, but Lloyd and I did this video all in one take, I just cut it down to 30mins. We leave in all our stuff ups as it shows we are just two blokes having a chin wag.

Completely disagree. Why should a TH-camr not publish a negative review of a product supplied for free? If a product is shiiiit it needs to be reviewed as shiiiit prior to being returned to its shiiiit owner. Thanks for sharing

Love this comment, I thought there would be a few that disagree with me, I would tell them about it, same as I did with Darchee depending on their response I guess is my next action. As I didn't hold back on Darchee after they told me it's a known common fault that they aren't fixing. That had to be shared, but if the company agrees to fix the products issues re send it to me to test I'll say nothing. Some time the TH-camrs are used for R&D on a product so we should be the ones finding issues.

There are a few points to consider here, 1 being the quality of a product vs a possible assembly defect, 2 poor quality of a product not associated with it's assembly. 3 Customer service. In each of these cases I expect the reviewer to disclose positives and negatives. Cheers

I read that, very interesting hey I still think who ever made the upper control arms should be responsible, as they are not ment to to snap.
I stop watching channels that sensationalize click bait, are big spenders on new products and over sexualize their content. I prefer a good adventure, good filming and music mix. Utubers can play an important roll in energizing sustainable touring into rural and regional areas.

Hey good on you guys for touching on the click bait, its an absolute pet peeve of mine. I have a circle of creators where we discuss all things YT and we are constantly sending each other screen grabs of the latest click bait from those certain creators that do it and have a laugh. I have definitely given it some thought though, and the sad fact is, it works. Until more viewers starts to boycott it like we have, it will continue. The first step to get that to happen is to talk about it, so well done fellas.
As for collaborating, we love to do it, its really what YT is all about, lifting each other up and supporting each other, every creator knows what the grind is like. We've done some fun stuff with the likes of "Jack & Megan" "Our whittle adventure" "Happening empty nesters" "overland exposure". Though, I won't mention names but we have camped beside some bigger creators and reached out and they just ignored us. Do reach out if you would like to do something with us, will be East Coast next winter.

We pretty much only watch YT and not mainstream TV as well. We have stopped watching a couple because of the clickbait titles. "Disaster at camp!!" and it turns out old mate has stubbed his toe or something equally inconsequential. 😂What Svedo has said in his comment is spot on.
My opinion on TIAV negativity is the classic tall poppy syndrome here as in a lot of people dont like to see others succeed which is sad. They did it and did it well. They have also diversified with product, books etc and I say good luck to them. Love their content. Artzone Travels do beautiful cinematic content and if you haven't seen them, check them out. I watched the american trucks doing the OTT - what can I say. It just becomes a 🍆 measuring contest in my opinion. 😂

Yeah, some of these Thumbnails and Titles are getting a bit much. "This is a Disaster" and then find they spilt a sauce bottle. All the big channels seem to be doing at the moment. Was a big thing a few years back and seems to be back again.
It's really interesting we are getting alot of people in the comments and privately tell us how annoying it is, you would think it would be hurting their views.
I'm happy to pump up a thumbnail but golden rule it has to be relevant to the video in a big way.

Totally agree with your comments on click bait. I used to watch a number of the caravanning channels but they all seem headed the same way with flogging off products, massive upgrades to
$100k vehicles that don't apply to most of us caravanners out there. Stopped watching them and enjoy now watching channels like yours.

You guys touched on the explosion of US trucks into the Off road seen with bigger setups and potential track damage. How about the growing number of TH-camrs running around with Isuzu 4X4 trucks doing tracks like the Canning, Simpson and the Cape. When these things go down the track damage is huge.

Great stuff guys, agreed, a lot of big travel channels are just using click bait thumbnails. I've pretty much stopped watching them and moved to smaller creators who still produce good content. Also, I watch a lot of motorbike channels and they're not into this click bait thing. Also so many of these caravan channels are selling that stupid Kangen MLM. They don't advertise it on their channel, but hit the link in the bio and you get so many selling you the "free from 9-5" "affiliate marketing" "online business" crap.
Also, the American trucks are for towing on asphalt, keep them away from the OTT. Agreed the same can happen with the Toyota's and Nissan's. However, if you're stuck in Cape York, you can express the parts to Bamaga for those two, try that with and american truck.
That's a really good point you make, most parts for the US trucks have to come in from the states, I remember there was a TH-camr at the start of covid who had to wait 3 months in WA for parts to arrive. Ash really wants one to tow the horse float, I'm happy with my 79 🙂

Love the idea of chatting about all the other channels objectively. 100% about SKT, Tyler Thompson etc. with click bait, used to watch both of these a bit but don't even bother anymore. Don't treat your viewers as idiots, there's always plenty of other content to watch.
By far our biggest comments have been on the click bate. Amazing to see so many people against it. Well said about not treating people like idiots, it does feel that way hey.

Enjoyed the show some interesting content just on the simpson recovery we have be out there a few times and have a $15000 recovery add on to our insurance which is to recover anywhere in Australia, have not had do test it yet but when talking to the insurance company l was told of clams from the simpson of $12000 plus. Do enjoy those channels you talked about with the exception of skt that bloke reminds me of a used car salesman.
Sounds like your all around your insurance, I have to say I know my caravan policy well but not so much my car. I'll definitely be looking into it before we head remote again.

I can’t stand the click bait titles that are around now.
From what I remember I think Molly sells swimwear so it’s understandable that she’s in it all the time, I think some people are harsh on her.
Some other topics to discuss;
I love Ronny Dahls trip videos but I’m over his green screen videos things I don’t know or top 5 things your 4x4 needs.
The “4x4 influencers” that are flogging their only fans, it’s cringe.
Also I think Andrew st pierre white is under rated and i would love to see what he could produce like a proper movie or documentary with a big production budget.

We were chatting about him last week I said the same thing, when is he going to do another trip video, turns out he never really did much trip videos only 3 or 4 a year, they also don't get anywhere near the views as his stupid top 5 videos, so sadly I don't think he will increase them.

sorry Boys, had to laugh when you were commenting about the american trucks and said we should go back to standard 4wds...LOL, with a decked out 76 in the background. Bring on the trucks. $120 for a US ute or $160 for a 300 series.........hmmm that then needs big dollars thrown at it, or god forbid a 70 series landruiser

Our 70 series definitely are rough and not much inside, but that's why I love it my 79 is a farm truck we don't baby it and clean it, it's a work horse. Putting a Ford ranger in its place wouldn't work the interior is to fragile. But their definitely is plenty of them driving around the Gold Coast that aren't used for that reason.
We are just scared the OTT will get shut of people keep taking big trucks up there.
Agree and the Australian gubbermint forces us to consider larger trucks due to GVM limits.
Re the width of vehicles up the OTT ... when i took my GU up there many many years ago it was too wide to fit in the existing tracks such as gunshot. so i cant really see the difference about taking wider vehicles nowadays.
Your kidding me a GU wouldn't fit!
So imagine how much wider it has to be for a US truck or worse these big Izuzs things. We are just scared the OTT will be the next track to close

I've been running a 4WD touring channel for a couple of years now but to be honest its very unprofessional and i don't have the personality or the body to make it big ... i am hoping the Aussie Walkabout content is interesting enough for friends and family as that's what it was really aimed at from the beginning.. .. 120k for an American truck??? Maybe for the 1500 size trucks.
The 2500 size or bigger American trucks start at 170k+ new and then fit out costs on top. Then again a 79/200/300 series with a full fit out etc etc is 200k+ so 🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️
Ive commented on skt in the past and my opinion of them is less than glowing due to their response.

My tow rig / farm truck 79 is around 90k
Both do the job. I had no idea the 2500 cost that much!! They are shit house boring inside.

I have also stopped watching SKT, same with Tyler Thompson, same with channels picturing women in bikinis click bait, all these likely correlate with low quality video/content (my Opinion, lol).
Big reason for VERY expensive recoveries in Simmo is Insurance companies and the 'extra' recovery packages, for example I buy the $15k extra recovery package off Club 4x4 because of 'where' I go and I reckon the 'recovery' mobs know this and violla...up goes the cost.
Mate very interesting topic you bring up the Bikini thump nails and pimping put their partners. That will be in next week's video.

Nice chat fellas! Off Track yarns as a working title is alright, But if you wanted to develop this as a regular video podcast, maybe a more dedicated name like "Off the beaten track"? Still has the 'OFF TRACK" brand feel but gives the show its own identity, and shows it as something a bit different to what you usually do.
Take that with a grain of salt boys haha, but was just a thought.

My gripe is that with so many fourbies running 35 inch tyres or even bigger, duh!!
Makes it virtually almost more difficult/impassable for for 4wdrivers like myself on 32inch tyres. ( used to drive LandCruiser on 35's myself🤔)

Hi mate,
I bought a new Navara np 300 after my Landcruiser was written of after an engine bay fire.
I was fined $168 and 1 demerit point in Brissy running 33 inch tyres / 2 “ lift on the Nav
So changed to 32” which is the biggest legal tyre I can have on my Nav according to the tyre mobs .
33 inch on the Nav is the sweet spot to drive and of road abilities imo.

I can't say that channels doing reviews on items is my favorite viewing on TH-cam yes l do watch some but take most like grain of salt. While some are paid others are gifted and others are bought with there own money to me it comes back to trust in the person doing the talking and maybe l might be a cynical barstard but not many fill me with that trust. Just because someone received something and doesn't get paid anything they still get the use of that item and a good chance of future gifts. TH-cam is probably advertising more product than free to air these days and deciding who is genuine is not always easy.

Something to think about the gifted products, it takes us about 2 hours of researching and planning for the video, 2 hours of filming longer if you go on location to film. Then 8 hours to edit, plus 2 hours for thumbnail and upload info to TH-cam. All up 14 hours.
Make a pay rate of say $35 per hour pretty low for a subcontractor but we will use that. $490 is what that company should pay to have the review done. Trust worthy people like me do it for free, we don't sell the product as we won't to keep testing it. TH-cam will give us $100 for the video. So best way to look at it is the products them self have to be worth all the time and effort to the person. If they were crap they wouldn't invest the time.

There is a lot of channels that speak a lot of spin about products and channels that appear to take on products just to try and make a living buy selling items from the highest bidder. I firmly believe there was a great opportuninty for DCS to improve their product as they would of assumed it could withstand the rigors of use and knowing that when products are given out for review that there will be good a bad reviews. Look at Kings. They have had some terrible reviews but they worked to improve their products and are getting better all the time. Soo many consumers rely on reviews as lets face it, products can be very expensive and we want to ensure what we are purchasing lives up to the retail jargon in the sales brochure.d
