I think that this and the Time Machine demo fit as standalone experiences while the complete versions are best played in the album’s sequence, neither of them are worse per-say, but they serve different purposes

The influence comes through strongest on "Banana Man", which Joe readily admits. Its not hard to figure out though, Belafonte's most famous song is the famous "Day-O (Banana Boat Song)". I think at this stage in the album's construction he was planning for it to be a lot more "tropical" than the final product turned out to be. The deeper but swinging vocal quality here seems to be an attempt to emulate, if not exactly replicate, Belafonte's style. You'll notice the quality of Joe's voice is very similar to the way he was singing in Banana Man, minus the affected grammar.

Idk if it’s just me but I think These demos make it seem like they were working on a 3rd album for tally hall but they couldn’t get together fully in one place at the same time so they had to make it a different, independent project.

i think i like the final better than this. it gives the questioning lyrics more of a questioning tone to them and i think the change from "i" to "you" was for the best also "i was a victim of magic apollo" is strangely distant in the final, whereas here its just... there. the instruments i just feel are more flat, i guess they added a little echo in the final. also the final few lyrics having a slower and quieter pace makes them feel more eerie, which i love. but i do like the echo of the song's chorus at the end.
