'No Comparison' 3 Wheeled Inline Skates vs. 4 Wheeled Skates

  • This Vlog contains some coarse language and is guaranteed to be less than inspiration. No 'full' comparison to the 3 wheeled skate was ever made, due to a moment which will be obvious when you see it.
    Skates used for the.....not-a-comparison were the Flying Eagle Drift with speed frameswww.flyingeagle...
    Camera used is a the GoPro4 Black mounted on a Bauer Vapour hockey stick shaft.

    Hey Bill. I was looking at some of your past videos on power slide / stop to get a hint and I probably mised the part when you were on a garage saying"lock out for oil' or something like that and I learned the hard way...or the easy way on how to become a "balarina". Hit that oil pach on a power stop and made the BEST splits of my life...I thing my B..ls tuched the ground. I felt it....And for a 51 years old skater ....NOT NICE. LOL...Thank you for all the videos you make. keep it up man. You'r an inspiration to allot off ppl around the world. Spyros from Sunny Greece.

    You know, you don't realize how absolutely *impossible* what Bill does is until you actually put on a pair of skates. I mean even the way he strides just normally is so ridiculously hard to imitate lol I feel so angry cuz I wish I could skate like this guy but I feel like I'd never get even close even with practice :@ :S Why must you be so good Bill! Those strides/quick starts are pretty hard to do compared to powerstops......It feels weird doing them since you have to make some movements similar to running.....It just feels weird to me.

      ***** When I do strides I like to imagine bouncing from foot to foot. Really helps keep the rhythm. Also helps to bust your ass a bit so you stop being scared. Cant even remember how many times ive fallen trying to do new or unfamiliar moves :p

    I prefer the 3 wheel setup. I have the exact same setup as you except my skates are the falcon f6 instead of the drift. I switch to my 4 wheel setup if I'm sticking closer to home and focusing more on hitting gaps and stuff. Though the 3 wheels handles that just as good to be honest.

  • @Apeshower
    @Apeshower 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This is good to take a bit of a break occasionally. Even if that is a short break for a coffee. It sort of resets you. The longer you go without incident the more your confidence grows and it can turn to a bit of complacency. I ride a motor bike and a break for a drink is a good thing. You get on, start again and switch on. I loved bills attitude here. It’s true the car driver should have checked but it’s so easy to blame others entirely and not reflect on how you could maybe mitigate or avoid in the future through your approach. Not always doable but worth the self reflection.

    2:08
    Bill: “I can really get super low in these. I like that.”
    Do you know why, Bill?
    Because they have a hinged cuff.
    When you have a rigid boot like a hockey skate or your Adapt skate it binds into the bottom of your shin preventing you from getting low. So that is why you either lace lower and wrap around so you don’t get lace bite or not have them as tight.
    But then compromising your support by having your laces loose is not a good thing

  • @hildeh8706
    @hildeh8706 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    what's about wearing some protection? (and I think you get along amazingly well without - but I really wondered about that before this video)

    • @BillStoppard
      @BillStoppard  8 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      I wear pads for more extreme stuff, but no padding I know of, would have protected the forearm, bicep and shoulder joint from a car door; maybe full hockey equipment would have helped a bit.... When Something like this happens, I re-evalute my decisions, not equipment.

    • @BillStoppard
      @BillStoppard  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@michaellantigua748Sidewalk skating is such a bad idea in crowded places. Too many inline skaters are destroying our sport's reputation by risking pedestrian lives and skating around people like they're pylons. Deferring the risk to more vulnerable people (pedestrians) is a terrible answer, especially when car people can simply look before opening their doors when exiting, illegally or legally.

    I took the “no comparison” in the title to mean that you felt there was no comparison which one was better, 3-wheels or 4, not that you weren't actually going to compare them. I was surprised to see that you would think it such a clear choice and not a nuanced, “I don't know you so I can't suggest what's best for you”.
    It's an old video and you probably don't care but maybe, “getting pissed off and pedestrians then having a fucking door opened on me” would be more accurate and get more views.

    Hell yeah to more cycle lanes. Living in south Florida, they're basically non existent. Some sections of streets don't even have sidewalks, and the places that do are just crap.

    Do you miss your Bauer inline skates? Do the new skates provide you the stiffness and power to the ground what you felt when skating with hockey skates :) ?
    The crash was nasty, but good to know that you are okay! Keep it easy, where are not mortal :/

      Thank's. Il be waiting your comments. Can you tell your thoughts about adapt hyper skate zero compared to hockey skates weight/stiffness. I like my hockey skates more than my speed skates, I can go faster with speed skates, but...Yes with extra money you can go crazy with customizing speed skates.

      Look at the side-view mirror. Usually you can see if someone is in the passenger side before its dangerous unless it's oriented funnily.

      Having worked on delivery half my life, usually in 2 wheels, I have to agree about the side mirror thing.
      Anyway I always try to skate, drive, cycle... as if every surrounding people or animals would in fact do everything wrong. They probably will anyway...
