  • A quick video that shows what a capillary tube restriction looks like and how to verify that its restricted and not just low on refrigerant. See part 2 for the repair.

    This is a real short video of how I decided if the cooler has a restricted capillary tube or if its just low on refrigerant. Check it out and give me some feedback. Thanks for checking it out and please consider subscribing and clicking the notification bell.
    UPDATE: I have the repair recorded and I will soon be posting it.

    • @HVACRSurvival
      @HVACRSurvival  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      We buy so much refrigerant that we buy it wherever we can get it the cheapest. Far as I know they all have to be a certain standard if purity otherwise you're possibly contaminating other systems and if that was the case, that would go against EPA regulations.

    I use a 557 at work , that's provided by the company , and the bloody LP side won't reset to zero , nor will it zero out the pressures when I press the " P=0 " key .

    On residential units I found that restrictions cause a low suction and head pressure. In your video it shows a high head pressure . Could this be because of the placement of your head pressure gauge at the filter drier port?

    Is it possible just to cut the first few inches of the cap tube and blow some nitrogen through suction side and see if there’s air coming for the cap tube? I’ve seen people heat the cap tube with a torch until it is red and add pressure from the low side and see if the debris will come out from the tube. I’m just wondering if any of these method might work instead of replacing the entire cap tube? Of course it will not work if any of the debris stocked on the cap tube inside a refrigerator.

    • @HVACRSurvival
      @HVACRSurvival  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Generally I talked to the customer and see what their thoughts are, if there's not a huge rush to get it working right then and there I would prefer to change the cap tube out because I've had several times where that type of method didn't work, then you wasted your time and their money. Cap tubes are really cheap and after replacing a few of them it's not it's not such a big deal anymore. Generally we change the cap tube anytime we change the evaporator or the compressor.

    I looked at the values ones again and have a questions to everybody interested in this case: how would you explain temperature difference of 50 F at practically no load on the condenser? (T ambient = 70 F, T sat = 120 F (@ 170 psi))

    • @HVACRSurvival
      @HVACRSurvival  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Its not a prefect operating world. The systems are getting restricted and coils get dirty. The difference is seldom the 20 or 30 Over ambient.

  • @AJ-we9kd
    @AJ-we9kd 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You could run the line inside just remove the shelves, unscrew the cover plates. I’m no pro so brazing at the evap in the corner is the hardest part. I believe the trick is to unscrew the evap and fan assembly to lower the evaporator. I’ve seen people recommend stabrite 8, using stay silv /silphos 15 you have to heat the evap a lot and hope the cap stays clear. Unfortunately, I have to replace the cap tube every 1.5-2years. Do you have a suggestion on a txv retrofit, or solution to the repeat problem? I tried triple evacuation which didn’t help. I’m using a c032capT filter drier.

    • @HVACRSurvival

      I went back twice then finally dumped the compressor oil and replaced the cap tube again 😕 no problems since👍👍

    • @HVACRSurvival
      @HVACRSurvival  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Changing it to a TXV can be a little tricky. I haven't done it but I've thought about it several times. It may not be worth it, I've asked about doing it before and believe there may need to be other items in the refrigeration circuit to consider upgrading or adding.

      @HVACRSurvival  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have seen an old fashioned looking one but I've never used one. My thought is if it don't work then you've wasted your time and the customer's money And then you're right back to changing the capillary tube. I can change a cap tube out in usually 30 minutes plus refrigeration procedure time. (Vac, recovery, leak check)

    What’s wrong with the Testo 550’s??? I love mine... 🤣

    • @HVACRSurvival
      @HVACRSurvival  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      They are nothing like my 557. They never reset back to 0 psig on there own. I called testo and they told me there a different sensor or something from my 557. I mean they're half the price of my 557 and the only difference on paper is the 3/8 hose port and the micron gauge that has the resolution of 100 microns per step (That joke was fixed with the newer 557 design). I hardly use the 2 extra features of the 557 but the 0 psi reset on the 550s on there own breaks my confidence in there accuracy. I got two other techs to buy the 550s and there's was the same way, they went back to analog gauges. I never have to hit the reset on my 557 to hit the zero, I might need to reset the 557s once or twice every couple weeks.
