If DEFCON was cancelled and moved to a different venue because of the MGM hack last year then what happened to Black Hat? How does this affect hacker summer camp as a whole? Does Black Hat have to move or get cancelled too?
Blackhat is fine.
blackhat happens in a different venue from defcon and is unaffected by the defcon contract cancellation

I understand... just to clarify my question... if Ceasars is not allowing DEFCON on their properties because of some reason related to the MGM hack, how might this affect whoever is allowing BlackHat on their properties. Where ever BlackHat is being held the venue doesn't seem to be as worried or concerned about Cyber specialists holding a security/anti-security event on their properties... also... are both events being held during the same week? I haven't checked yet...

i got one from dollartree a month or more ago alerting me to a data breech they had.
They were hacked like months ago too that's the crazy part. The MoveIt breach has hit every major health care provider there is...including my employer :/

in some ways the lvcc is better than any caesar property. the area is far bigger, and possibly attendees no longer have to “make a hole” while standing in line in the hallways. they hold ces and other large expos there every year. it’s more laid out but at least there’s no winding around in the casino floors with all the slot machines and security cameras right in your face. one problem might be the monorail as a bottleneck if everyone remains coming from that location.
im excited for everything to take place in one space again tbh. having to run across 3 hotels was always exHAUSTING

A toothbrush used for DDoS isn't that far fetched, especially if it's some stupid IoT crap. Didn't the Rockstar hacker only use a hotel TV, cellphone, and Amazon Fire Stick at one point? He was even being held in detention if I recall.
That would have been ironic for Def Con to have actually been canceled. "Def Con is cancelled this year." Is probly the most infamous joke.

LVCC is 10x better for the layout & future growth. We’re already going to several other conventions at LVCC throughout the year anyways.
I GREATLY prefer the more serious tone of of the host in this episode! Please keep it up!
As someone who was previously vocal in regards to seeking a alternative host, I won't go as far to say she is my favorite in general but I am pleasantly surprised by this weeks episode! I feel there is still room for improvement (primarily with the fluidity of communication) but I'm far more optimistic for her role here. I truly do hope I'm able to say my initial concerns about her role here were wrong one day in the near future! 🙂

Most ridiculous DDoS claim I saw, was some years ago, someone claiming they had setup a botnet using IoT microwaves and airfryers. Needless to say, I let them cook.

some toothbrushes can be made to participate in a ddos attack
An attacker would have to rewrite the firmware, get it loaded on the toothbrush, and then connect the toothbrush to the internet. Using WiFi constantly would drain the battery fast, cause the toothbrush to lose connectivity with the app, and cause the owner to replace it.
A researcher might do that but a real attacker wouldn't.
@@jmr Depends how stupidly advanced the toothbrush is. Most electric toothbrushes spend most of their life on charge remember. There are tons of devices and appliances that have constant Wi-Fi connections that you'd think they really shouldn't, from coffee machines to CPAP machines. A toothbrush isn't _that_ far removed.
Imagine a brushing and dental health app with gamified system. Telemetry as a diversified income stream... subscription tiers, pay to remove ads, in-app ordering of special toothpaste and floss.. I'm surprised it doesn't already exist!

Whole video feels like an awkward audition for a 90s G4 TV show that tries to dumb down hacking but the presenter doesn't understand it themselves.
I knew there was a reason I am watching this channel much less often now... vocal fry!!!! It is pretty hard to listen to how you, at least, end every sentence with vocal fry. It's a very , very annoying affected way of speaking. Absolutely no need for that. No one speaks like that naturally it is a learned behavior copied from others. Please make an effort to speak normally. Like Shannon would have done.
