Great stuff! Please check out Diablo Swing Orchestra's new single "War Painted Valentine." Or any of their back catalog, particularly their early stuff with operatic vocals.
That was definitely a groovin' little jam there. Larnell was layin' it down real smooth on the drums and everyone else was right there with him; incredibly tight performance. Cool selection!
I hope you read this. I've made a few recommendations for you before. But this one would be really neat an unique. Can you do "bad asteroid" by the aristocrats? Just a trio of great musicians doing some instrumental tunes. All very technical but it has a rather fun vibe to it.
I love Darnell since Snarky Puppy's "We like it here". He was replacing the original drummer who had gotten ill and he learned the songs on the plane to Europe! Unbelievable! Power and intelligence meet in his drumming.
In the credits Jimmy T was one of the engineers. He's the engineer for the later Dream Theater releases including the new one coming out in October (2021). Check out the single The Alien from A View from the Top of the World.
When you have confidence, you can have a lot of fun. And when you have fun, you can do amazing things.”, Joe Namath. ...you should check Laço Tayfa's «Hicaz Dolap» album, Liquid Tension Experiment parts 1,2 & 3, Toehider's «What kind of animal am I», Darren Housholder's self-titled album; Bumblefoot's «Little brother is watching», Couple Coffee's «Puro» - Highlight: track #1 "Conversa de Botequim", Master Victor Wooten's (among others) Trypnotix and Vital Techtones.
Nice artist, never heard of him, funky jazz rock stuff. May i suggest a Prog Jazz Rock band: Passport - the songs, Homunculus or Cross Collateral are good starters.
Really dig your videos Doug! I'm a long time prog rock fan so I'm familiar with a lot of the songs you are breaking down, it's really cool to see a "react" video but with some real serious theoretical knowledge to back up your impressions. Great way to re-listen to some old favorites. This tune is great too, always neat when musicians you like coming from different backgrounds such as Rudess (more prog/metal) and Larnell Lewis (more funk/fusion) team up a bit unexpectedly and produce something really interesting. I know you get a ton of recommendations, but would like to put in a few of my own! First would be Mike Oldfield. He has several really great lengthy pieces, personally I love Crisis, the Taurus suite, and of course Tubular Bells. Second would be a band called Leprous - they have some beautiful, often haunting compositions with powerful, soaring melodies and an incredible lead singer. Some songs to look at would be At the Bottom, Distant Bells, and The Sky is Red. Third, I'd love to see some more Haken! 1985, Atlas Stone, In Memoriam, Falling Back to Earth and Nobody are some personal favorites. Would be so cool if you'd have time to review one of those suggestions!
I know it's not metal or prog, but I would love to see you reviewing anything about Muse. Maybe Stockholm Syndrome which is one of their classics? Or Take a Bow, Space Dementia, Butterflies and Hurricanes, Citizen Erased are also interesting songs to listen to. I love Muse since Mike Portnoy named Absolution his favorite album of the year on his forum in 2004! You can even hear some heavy Muse influence in a couple DT songs from Octavarium and Systematic Chaos.
The horns made me think of Chicago, especially in the first half. Larnell sounded like he was playing twice as fast as the other guys, but it totally worked. He made me feel more like I should be running than dancing! One small nitpick. For the French name "Mathieu" the "TH" is pronounced like a "T".
Doug you need to check it the music from Derek Sheririan the keyboard on Dream Theater before Jordan Ruddess...his bands, Planet X or Sons of Apollo or Explorers Club.....!
I have watched your videos and something you have said several times is that is not just the musical skills but the performance skills that matter the most. The same note can sound either dull or bright depending on the performance. With that in mind I would love if you could react to Marillion’s The invisible Man (here’s the link th-cam.com/video/ePZAujUknYs/w-d-xo.html) heartbreaking performance by Steve Hogarth. His voice is spot on, but his facial expression and body language take the song to another level. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did
Man you gotta react to some dirty loops soon. Amazing band, I think you’ll like them. Follow the light is a good track that features them. Or do anything off of their EP
Owls are a hoot and a half no doubt... I imagine they must be into darker pieces, though those specifically from Hogwarts, might also be into heavily modal music with stron Lydian tendencies PS Jokes aside, killer stuff!!!
th-cam.com/video/IE9I6NrE2S0/w-d-xo.html Dunlop Session performance of Binky by Snarky Puppy. Not nearly as many views as the other ones, but easily as good and very different. You'll love it. Also strongly recommend Bill Laurence's (of Snarky Puppy) "Flint" session. Start with Chia or Ready Wednesday or whatever really, all gold.
I totally 'doug' this.... (i'll get me coat). But, if im honest it could have done without the synth solos. There is a place for that but i just dont think it is here.
Jordan kinda overdid it with the noisy wailing, as good as it was. What was it like six or seven times when he would do those quick climbs into a noise bomb? Cool once or twice, but that was excessive for this piece. Killer tune, though. Larnell, just...he's the man. Mathieu kicked some ass there on his solos as well.
Hi please react to music o games of from software, Bloodborne "The Hunter" or "Ludwig Holy Blade" Or songs from OST Bloodborne or Dark Souls 3 Saludos desde Mexico :)
Nice ! Thank you Doug for the great review ! :)
Larnell is just too cool!
Jordan Rudess is without a doubt one of the greatest keyboardists on the planet!!!!
I'm from Quebec City too and didn't know him (Mathieu Fiset), thx for the local découverte :)
The keyboardist with the red keyboard had this amazing sound similar to Jens Johansson. I really love this sound.
Thanks ! Jens is indeed a big inspiration, along with Rudess !
Larnell and Jordan are legends!!!
That was bloody awesome!! Cheers to Rio for the suggestion. Like you, Doug, I could listen to that drummer any time.
🤘😎🤘
Love fusion!!!! More please :-)
Great stuff! Please check out Diablo Swing Orchestra's new single "War Painted Valentine." Or any of their back catalog, particularly their early stuff with operatic vocals.
It’s good to hear good instrumental music. Not enough of this now. Thanks Doug to make a Québécois (Canadian from Québec) shining on TH-cam.
Reminds me a lot of Weather Report.
Rock on, Jordan!🎹🤘🏻Looking forward to this one!
Here's one I think you like; Leprous and their new record Aphelion! Great music from Norway!
"Listen to Larnell on the drums Y'all?" Larnell proceeds to double kick..... "Nevermind". I kid... I kid. Completely joking. Very cool Doug.
Awesome! Tnank you.
Excellent! Great nugget Doug
Thank you Doug! A great production. And its was fun listening to it.
That was definitely a groovin' little jam there. Larnell was layin' it down real smooth on the drums and everyone else was right there with him; incredibly tight performance. Cool selection!
Jordan Rudess Also played in the Dregs! Good Tunes!
I enjoyed this. Reminds me of the group Chicago, probably because of the horns.
You would definitely love Thank You scientist. Check our their song 'Son of a serpent'
TYS would be a great reaction. Any song really.
Their solar powered live performance of FXMLDR feat. Bluecoats is awesome too! @Doug, definitely check out Thank You Scientist!

Hello everybody. Cheers from France.
Bon soir! France saved my post-lockdown life😁 Beautiful summer🙏🏽
Sounds like in the style of Snarky Puppy !! First time hearing this. Fantastico !!!
Jordan Rudess rules!
I love Darnell since Snarky Puppy's "We like it here". He was replacing the original drummer who had gotten ill and he learned the songs on the plane to Europe! Unbelievable! Power and intelligence meet in his drumming.

Very cool! Dream Theater are coming to Belfast next year and seeing Jordan play like this is definitely pushing me in the direction of going.
And I get here *just* as the stream ends!

Enjoyed it very much. How about your input on the great Steely Dan.
Angra - Carolina IV!!!!!!
Yeeep.
That was spicy!
Funktastic shit! Indeed..
Doug I just got these new ear buds and you sound fantastic what is your microphone?
I know it's not metal or prog, but I would love to see you reviewing anything about Muse. Maybe Stockholm Syndrome which is one of their classics? Or Take a Bow, Space Dementia, Butterflies and Hurricanes, Citizen Erased are also interesting songs to listen to.
I love Muse since Mike Portnoy named Absolution his favorite album of the year on his forum in 2004! You can even hear some heavy Muse influence in a couple DT songs from Octavarium and Systematic Chaos.
Jordan Rudess is the best!
«Dumbledore likes tunes too, y’all»
- Daily Doug, 2021
Future classic😂
I want to know what Dumbledore requested!
Have you done 'Oh Atlanta' by Little Feat yet? Not prog, but it bounces all around the chord changes like a tasered gerbil and still stays funky.
Great!!! Try Ashes of Angra.
The horns made me think of Chicago, especially in the first half. Larnell sounded like he was playing twice as fast as the other guys, but it totally worked. He made me feel more like I should be running than dancing! One small nitpick. For the French name "Mathieu" the "TH" is pronounced like a "T".
Listen to Extremophile Elite by Between the Buried and Me. There is a really good live studio session.
Doug you need to check it the music from Derek Sheririan the keyboard on Dream Theater before Jordan Ruddess...his bands, Planet X or Sons of Apollo or Explorers Club.....!
If you like this you'll love Lee Ritnor. That was great. Those keys nearly went on fire
Doug, I love your in-depth reviews. Would you please give a listen to Ain’t it funky now..by Grant Green. Plzzzz!
Check out jordan another video, RNL Project feat Jordan Rudes
DOUG! As a George Duke fan, you owe it to yourself to look at the studio version of RDNZL
Meow, that was good!
Quite classically acid jazz in some ways. Reminds me a bit of some of the James Taylor quartet stuff I used to listen to in the 90s.
Great stuff. I love it. Try the song The Depth Of Self-Delusion by Riverside
Yes!! Great band and song, and beautiful solo by the amazing Piotr (RIP)
Manowar-Heart of steel (with orchestra or not)

Another recommendation - Joe Cocker, at Woodstock, singing "With A Little help From My Friends"
Please react to Nightmare to Remember by Dream Theatre, I promise it'll be worth it!
Consider doing Miklagard Overture or End of An Empire by finnish band Turisas!
arch echo please
I would like to suggest In Every Dream Home a Heartache from Roxy Music.
And finally some fusion on the channel :D Mathieu's solo is definitely more focused than jordan rudess's, just my two cents
Well thank you !
Man you gotta react to some dirty loops soon. Amazing band, I think you’ll like them. Follow the light is a good track that features them. Or do anything off of their EP
Given how you liked this one you should put Buttery Buns by Mohini Dey and Mark Hartsuch on your short list.
Hey, that was a nice stylistic shift from all the prog-metal for a change. Drumming is delicious here.
Bass player looked very much like Mike League from Snarky Puppy.
Great stuff! Check out Guthrie Govan, any song!
Man love your vid, I strongly suggest checking out "G.O.A.T." by polyphia, you won't regret
You should have a look at this one : th-cam.com/video/ccQhmsrZyJI/w-d-xo.html by Rusty Jaz MotorFunk
You should listen yo Snarky Puppy
He did a reaction to Snarky Puppy a couple weeks ago.
Owls are a hoot and a half no doubt...
I imagine they must be into darker pieces, though those specifically from Hogwarts, might also be into heavily modal music with stron Lydian tendencies
PS Jokes aside, killer stuff!!!
hey! you should react to Dream Deciever by Judas Priest, the live version. Its one in a million song
Sounds like Clown Core.
Jordan make that look so effortless.... it makes me sick ,lol
seems like a triangle to me: metal, prog or jazz?
Well, it's music
And thus the hybrid label "fusion" sidesteps the question. This feels very jazzy, with enough rock elements to sound like fusion to me.
React to "El gavilan" by violeta parra . amazing
Fun little tune. Though it could have even been better if you got up and danced to it Doug, lol.

Los Jaivas - Tarka y ocarina. Trust me.

I totally 'doug' this.... (i'll get me coat).
But, if im honest it could have done without the synth solos. There is a place for that but i just dont think it is here.
Doug instructed Gilligan, on just exactly how to get off of that damn Island.
Much much much better Mathieu solo than Jordan
Como cansa Rudess…, siempre hace los mismos solos

Cool once or twice, but that was excessive for this piece. Killer tune, though. Larnell, just...he's the man. Mathieu kicked some ass there on his solos as well.
Mask on the keyboard? Im out. What a fool.

You will have plenty of time to be smoking doobies Doug, when you're living in a van down by the river!
Jordan just shat over that tune. He hardly outlined the changes and lacked rhythmic variety. Basically, 16th note shred from start to finish.
