    Rosalie I think it would be helpful to take measurements, because some times it might look like you don't loose weight or the opposite, you gain weight. I don't know if you know, that sometimes we lose fat and gain muscle, and a scale that only measures weight doesn't show that.

    Don’t get discouraged, I started with you on the weight loss journey. I sadly gained it all back plus 8lbs more! Yes it’s discouraging, but I like to think I haven’t given up! I’m getting back up again and trying again. This time I started like you, just eating better. But you motivated me!!! I come back on TH-cam and see that your still going and haven’t given up!! Such an inspiration 😍❤️ I’ve lost 20lbs so far just eating better! Stop looking at how much you got left!! Forget that! Look how much you’ve lost! And how much you’ve accomplished!!!! Your amazing! Keep up the good work and motivating others ❤️

I'm losing slowly, but losing Thanks for the info. I have yet to muster the courage to go to the gym. I'm also documenting my journey here on TH-cam as well. I recently started a vlog channel just for shits and giggles but I haven't done any videos dedicated to my weight loss journey yet (I have like 1 or 2 videos lol). I'm trying to lose 115 lbs and have lost 89 lbs so far.. this week I decided to start documenting my journey mainly because I'm struggling in a plateau and I want to show other women that you can get past it.

    So inspiring! Keep going! You just inspired me to get off my butt and do some squats! I've been lazy lately. Time to amp it up! I know what you mean about knee injury and working out for sure! Recumbent bike was good in my recovery and to strengthen and good cardio. You'll be able to go longer too. I still can't do the elliptical, it's just too painful. Weights are great! Swimming is fantastic. Row machine is a good one. There is a machine that's alomst like an elliptical but it's not on such a weird angle, and that one doesn't hurt my knee, I'm not sure what it's called :/. I have so so so many modifications, let me know if you're interested!

    So happy to hear about the newly discovered perks of your gym! And so angry to hear people have been ugly to you at the gym in the past - what the heck are they thinking criticizing someone who clearly is trying to get healthy? They are bullies looking to be mean to somebody and get away with it. Worst wishes to them.

    Hey there- well on you for going consistently. If the elliptical hurts you- keep off of it! Don't push yourself too much!!!
    Even If you can do just a few minutes at not much of an incline- you're still exercising.Getting hurt sucks! Maybe focus on getting yourself there, doing something and not injuring yourself for the first few sessions/weeks.

    I find it amazing that you still decided to join and go to a gym despite your experience with people being rude. I am terrified of being recorded or having pictures taken of me. Basically what you have experienced, that’s my fear. The fact that you are able to do that, gives me hope that maybe I’m just giving that fear more power than I should and need to just suck it up and sign up at a gym.
    Maybe you are gaining muscle? Maybe after 2 weeks you will see your number start to go down again. I have the same thing where my number on the scale goes up after working out too. Really helpful video 💜

  • @stykzorz
    @stykzorz 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Keep it up! When I started in January, I could only do 5 minutes of the elliptical before my legs felt like jello. Now I'm up to 35 minutes. Just increase your time slowly - you did 5 minutes last time, next time do 7. Then 10, then 12, etc. You got this girl!

    just making an effort makes a difference no matter what the scale says. Our journey is a long one and will have allot of ups and downs. As long as we keep striving for what we want we can get there. When I look at my first video I can see how much I have really lost and that gives me encouragement. Each pound makes a difference even when we don't see it.

    You are doing great!!! You already are being consistent with your uploads. Joined a gym! WTG!
    Have you taken measurements? Trying on clothes that are too tight? Take measurements monthly. Try on clothes that were too tight bi-monthly.
    My weight hasn't changed in about 6 weeks. But I went down a size!!
    Strength training is where it's at. Muscle burns fat. There is some research that starting to come out about cardio versus weight training.

    I’m 320 lbs and also have bad knees. My trainer has a university degree in physio therapy and knows what exercises/machines work for my size. So maybe ask for someone similar? He told me avoid the elliptical. My warmup is stretching and then 5 minutes on the treadmill. Then 15 on treadmill after my workout for my cool down. Its not about endurance but more about engaging and strengthening your core. So I do a lot of weight exercises and squat exercises but correct form is key! Also just measuring weight is so discouraging. Some gyms have specific scales that only weigh body fat, so i would ask your gym if they have one. Also measurements are a great way to “measure” progress. Try taking it slower, it should not hurt when you exercise and remember you can stop and take a break. When my knee starts to hurt I stop and sit down, the pain goes away after a minute or two then I’ll keep going. This is going to be a life long thing so find ways to make it work for you. So what if nobody else has to stop and you do things in a non-traditional matter. The point is that you’re going. Blast your music and ignore others, i just like to think that they just have chronic resting bitch face and constipation and that usually makes me feel better. Lol 😆

    You go girl, I started out 6 min on the eliptical and forced my self to ad a min until I was on for 20 minutes... Lol I thought I would fall over, but I did it, and I'm not sure what is going on with your knees, but my mom is 65 and she has bad knees, she takes Osteo Bi-flex she said it took about 2 weeks to start feeling a difference, but she won't go without it now she said it made such a difference in her life, but anyway, I am so proud of you, I need to loose about 100 lbs and I will be honest I am so lazy sometime about exercising, so please keep up the motivational talks. ☺

    Love the video! Take it step by step and don't be discouraged. When I started the gym I HATED the elliptical and it was killing me. I was at 533 pounds (down to 265 now). Now I love it and it's my favorite cardio exercise.
    One thing I also noticed using it in several gyms and even at my parents place... different elliptical can feel VERY different and some are worse then others. So depending on the model/brand they are using that can also add to it. Also you need to find the right rhythm how to move the whole body (which will be hard at first when you have very few to "no" muscles/core/frame support strength.
    I hope you won't have such horror stories happening again at that gym but if it happens just ignore them. If you don't do anything they will talk and stare, if you do something they also talk and stare... so screw them. You are doing it, you are making the effort, you are fighting and working on it!

    Honey, you are the epitome of inspiration. I know that sometimes even hearing that is a little daunting and you may feel like that's a lot of pressure for you to carry but I can assure you, it's not. You are an inspiration not because of your successes (though you have had many for which you should be SO freaking proud) but moreso because of your adversity. You are determined to get healthy and you continue to show us your perserverance. You have had some crappy experiences with jerks at the gym yet you block them and go back. It's easy for people who have never had to feel the scrutiny of being overweight to make fun of those who have but taking pics of you is a new low. That's utterly disgusting behavior but look what you're doing?! You shut down that little voice in your head telling you that going to any gym is going to open yourself up to more ridicule and you went back. It may be a different gym but it doesn't matter...this is YOUR journey, YOUR success and YOUR hard work and not one single person can take that away from you. SO happy for you, keep going...you're doing so freaking well :)

    I feel your pain! For me, I started out doing "Vampire Workouts" like Shauna Reid wrote about in "the amazing adventures of dietgirl", where you wait until it's dark, put on a black hoodie, and walk until dawn! Doing Vampire Workouts worked for me, but I live in a little rural town and I can walk from one end of town to the other in the dark safely, and with some darn good results!

  • @thelosinggamer1330
    @thelosinggamer1330 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Also do you have to take a personal trainer right away? My gym offers for the start just a meet with one of the trainer. They show you all exercises, check your current level of fitness and how you feel on each machine/exercise. Then they create a workout program for 4-5 days for the next 4 weeks. They take all your measurements and recommend starting weights/reps/sets.
    After 4 weeks you meet again and they take the new measurements, check your progress and create the next 4 weeks. This is all done for free without paying and committing to one trainer. While you don't have somebody checking in with you all the time they are always available for questions or if you need help and it's still keeps you accountable.
    Once you build a basic strength and level of fitness you could move on and decide on a trainer pushing you forward and challenging you.

    Hello Rosalie!! I’m so happy to hear that you’re enjoying the gym. I cannot say enough good things about that gym, they are a good group of people working there. I too have had people give me the “side-eye”, but I ignore them. Like you said, it’s their problem! I will be joining again this summer, when it gets too hot to go for walks. Right now that’s the only exercise I’m doing. Please don’t feel discouraged for your gain. Just speaking from experience, every single time I start working out, I gain....every single time. After about a week, I begin losing again. It’ll even out. I admire you so much, especially your determination and transparency. I know I’ve said it before, but I relate to you on so many levels and I’m 100% rooting for you! 🌻

  • @ashleyadler-guliuzza9337

    Good for you! Way to hit that gym! I'm so excited for you. When you start going to the gym, you are putting your body into a "good shock" and you are putting on muscle mass...so I'm prettt sure that some of the weight gain has to do with the muscle mass that you are increasing. It's very common to put on muscle weight before the fat weight starts to melt off (I tend to gain about 20 lbs before I see my fat/weight go down). And it doesn't matter what size/weight you are... When I was 140 lbs and hardly fit, I had never been on an elepticle...I could only handle it for 9 minutes on level 1 resistance. But the more I worked out with it and lifted weights and did HIIT, the longer I was able to be on the machine. A few months later I had made it to the highest resistance and was able to go 90 minutes at a time (on the day's I wasn't doing weights or HIIT). And shame on the shamers! You deserve to be there and better yourself. You inspired me to find a new gym and get out there again, so thank you for that. I have my first session at my new gym on Wednesday! I am anxious and excited to see how it goes. We can do this!

    I totally get you on the trainer. Someone with the wrong attitude who thinks losing weight and exercising is just easy is NOT helpful. I've had both and the wrong person makes me want to avoid the gym. I've worked for 10 years to lose weight, and I had a neck injury for 4 years that I've finally worked through with the help of the right people. My trainer actually comes from a physical therapy background. So maybe ask the owner for which trainer they think is right, and if not, look into people with a PT background in your local community?

    Well done for going to the gym three times this past week!! Keep doing it this coming week!
    Do consider a magnesium supplement, my cramping calves stopped cramping after just a few days on a supplement.
    Do you have a set of exercises for building strength around your knees? One of my knees have arthrosis, so I have gone to a physical therapy group specifically for building strength. It’s awesome to have help to modify regular exercises to your level of ability. I’m sure I would have tried too hard, had pains, been frustrated and possibly injured myself if I didn’t have the help. Perhaps that’s something covered by your insurance or by a perk at the university?

I just want to say be careful for your personal trainer choice, I had a very poor back muscles and some back pain, I used to have a personal trainer and when she trained me I told her about my pain but she kept adding weights to some leg poses which increased my back condition. So be sure to have a trainer who really communicate with you not just trying to push you. Other than that, I recommend bodybuilding, I followed their plans and feel great! So, what happens when you start a new exercise program is that the muscles retail water to repair themselves. It drops off after a while!

    You have done so good so far. I do low carb/Keto I am down to 212. Started at 227. I have arthritis of my spine and peripheral neuropathy with major walking problems. When your muscles start cramping drink pickle juice. I cannot take those people that stare at someone. I have a great Treadmill and an recline bike. At least you are getting out there. I never liked working out ever. I have a talking scale. I love mine.

    The elliptical has always been my least favorite. I don’t have anything wrong with my knees but the elliptical always seemed to hurt them anyway.
    You’re doing so good going to the gym, I need to get over my own insecurities and go.

    People are just MEAN!!! When I was younger I was spit on!!! I have been yelled at telling me I was so fat why don't I just die! WHY! WHY! WHY! What is it to them anyway? And the big thing is when they are (kind enough) to let me know that I am fat...thank you...I would have NEVER known if they had not told me!

    It's easy for me to say just forget about the assholes at the gym!! I am so dam proud of you to go and do it for you!! I have bitched out a skinny thing saying something that I heard her say about someone working out at the gym...just pissed me out! Especially when I seen her on her phone most of the time while the chick she was talking about was giving it 110%! So I just pray to just ignore them and hopefully there is someone there that can tell them to f-off just like I would. And so agree with a trainer that use too be heavy cause they do know how hard it was hard for you just to get to the gym... ❤️❤️❤️You girl! Keep it up for you no one else!

    Most folks gain when starting to work out or move around more. When you break down muscle they retain water as they heal. :) Then as you loss fat and gain muscle for a while it will look like nothing is happening, but it is :) Sounds like a good gym!

    The elliptical doesn't hurt me, but it's annoying. My knees pop the entire time I'm doing it. It doesn't hurt but it's something you can feel and it gets annoying because your body tells you to stop.

    Hi Rose! How many carbs do you allow yourself to eat a day?? I know weight gain can occur when anyone starts exercising vigorously. But at larger weights we shouldn't expect exercise related weight gain to actually mask our fat loss for the week. Have you thought that maybe your carbs are just to high and may be hindering consistent weight loss? I find keeping my carbs under 80g a day really helps to push the body into consistent fat burning.

    Be prepared to gain about 15 lbs but then it will just melt right off if you stick with it it might take a coupl it months. Don’t get discouraged because you will lose inches and it won’t show lb loss for a while.

    Rosalie, I just want to hug you....I feel so angry and upset at the people who did such horrible things when you were at Gyms in the past. I couldn't believe people took pictures or filmed you. I know you didn't say it to get sympathy but as a larger girl myself it really is the type of thing most of us worry about when thinking of going to a gym. It's ridiculous that we belong in a world were people fat shame and tell others to "go loose weight, eat healthy," etc. etc. and then when you do they have a go at you for that too. I am struggling at the moment because I have been walking more the past few months, even only 20 minutes per day but now the metatarsal part of my foot hurts and walking is painful so its really bugging me. You did great to go 3 times in the first week. I know how hard even short spurts of exercise is when you carry extra weight. I can understand why it would be way better to have a trainer who understands what it's like to be fat. Do you have any recommendations for good footwear for walking?

  • @GarmanyRachel
    @GarmanyRachel 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I really want a trainer who used to be fat too! So they know the difference between "I am causing long term permanent damage to my joints" pain and regular muscle growing pains.

    I don't mean to seem mean but I've been following this channel for awhile. I understand not every week will be a loss and I know that weight loss is hard, but you weighed in at 350 pounds at the beginning of this year. So, in the last four months you have not lost anything. This channel just seems to be about excuses for why you haven't lost anything, and I know if someone actually follows a calorie count that they WILL lose weight almost every week. I truly wish you the best and I am routing for your success and hope you don't see this as harsh, just my perspective.

    • @JK-lt4vs
      @JK-lt4vs 6 ปีที่แล้ว +30

      Megan Heimerdinger I don't see this channel as full of excuses. If anything, I've seen her call herself out for not staying on track. Losing weight is very difficult and sometimes people lose their motivation for whatever reason. But, I do see her continuing to try. She is figuring out new ways to lose weight that are going to work for her. Which is why I really enjoy her channel. So yes, she is still at the same weight she was 4 months ago, but she hasn't thrown in the towel. The number isn't everything. I've been working out since the beginning of this year and the scale is only 5 lbs down. It is discouraging, however I'm down 2 pant sizes. I think it all just depends on the person. I'm not trying to be rude and I don't think you are being mean either. Just my take on it as someone who is currently losing weight.

    • @weepangoons
      @weepangoons 6 ปีที่แล้ว +30

      Your comment comes with the sub-text that somehow she owes the viewers to lose weight. This is not the case. The channel is about Rosalie documenting her process - nothing more, nothing less. If you're not satisfied with the pace of her transformation then that's your problem and no one else's.

    • @2010Aveen
      @2010Aveen 6 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      Very well said. When dieting or eating healthy for over a year, almost anyone can loose motivation or go through months of ups, downs and staying the same. People shouldn't forget how much she has lost to this point also.

    • @kattastrophy1
      @kattastrophy1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      You are not helpful or helping. Do you think she isn't keenly aware of that? Its hard to loose weight at any weight. At least she keeps trying! You should probably just shut up if you don't have anything supportive to say. It is mean whether or not you mean it to be.
