Ls mark actually made a video about the music of cartoons a few months ago. So it almost feels full circle that so much effort was put into scoring his cartoon. Also, great work on the music. The score really enhanced certain scenes. Especially all the scenes in the club.
I knew when I was watching something about the music hitted differently. I liked how there was lots of care and thought put in. It's giving classic tom and jerry vibes.
This was a great video! As someone who is both a composer/songwriter and wannabe animation filmmaker, I've really enjoyed seeing the behind the scenes from this project. Especially seeing stuff like the direction you were given and how amazing it turned out. I definitely noticed all of those little musical moments while I was watching the cartoon for the first time. You should be very proud, well done!
Really cool stuff! I feel like the soundtrack behind cartoons (especially indie projects like this) go hugely unnoticed by passing viewers, so this was very insightful to watch.
Thank you so much! I’m glad you found it interesting/insightful. It’s cool to be a part of projects like this and cast a light on some of the less thought about aspects.
i love the work that you did for his cartoon. the credits song, the club scenes, the general background music, it really reminds me of something you'd hear in high school!
You're a genius dude! I can't imagine how much knowledge and practice it takes to do this kind of work. Thanks for the amazing video, one of the most transparent I've seen :)
Hey Jessie. Love the way you explain the choices you made when scoring this cartoon. As you may remember your video from 3 years ago (How I Won a Film Scoring Contest) first got me started in movie scoring. By now I have about 15 short films under my belt. And the next two projects are a 30-minute film and a one-hour film. I'm constantly learning and loving every bit of it.
I really enjoyed the music that plays when the girls are telling Rob to be their coatrack and Clay helps him to stand up for himself. I thought that the score was brilliant, great work!
I adore the soundtracks to stuff like looney tunes and animaniacs, Always taking time to appreciate that kinda music along with the animation itself. So hearing a in depth over view of that "Micky mouseing" (for lack of a better word, is that a bad name for it sorry if so) type music was super interesting to me. Loved this video.
I wish I paid more attention to the music while watching the pilot because this all sounds so good! I've been trying really hard to get intoudic creation n' stuff, and this is some very inspiring stuff. You did a great job, and big ups to that clarinet player 👍👍
the cartoon video playing in the project file sounds really useful for scoring and stuff! I wish that were a feature for all DAWs (to my knowledge the daw I use, Ableton, doesn't have that lol)

Thank you so much! The club scenes were mostly diegetic music they snagged from somewhere, but I agree it was cool!

That’s incredibly kind of you to say! Thank you!
This man proves that you don’t need an entire 30 piece orchestra for a cartoon when you already have it in your computer
So much potential hope for the best for Catching Up!

No that’s the name for it we all use! Haha
I love it too. It’s fun to play in that medium and I’m glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching 🙂
This is amazing, I always wondered how you would compose that old school cartoon jazz.
Thank you! Yeah, it’s crazy. And I feel like I’m only really scratching the surface of how brilliant that stuff really can be

Hi Jesse, thanks for this
My pleasure! Thanks for watching!
do u have a favorite character from the show
I really like clay! I relate with his social anxiety and I like that in the end he’s supporting Rob standing up for himself 🙂
@@jessehaugen thats really cool :D
Is the video inside the cubase project or is it a seperate window?
The cartoon video is inside Cubase. The video of me is through OBS!

This is a feature in all daws! Ableton should be able to do it too
