Those campaigns spent the money that could have been used to rebuild US infrastructure, much of it which 50v years old or more. As a Canadian taxpayer, I don't want my money wasted on overpriced single engine F-35s that are quite useless in the Arctic but NATO expects us to use for the sake of interoperability.

At the age of 42 I fled my homeland of Canada in 2015 to escape what it has now become, for the perceived safety of my wife's home country of Switzerland where I am now a proud citizen.
I was furious, however, when the bund unilaterally sanctioned Russia at the bidding of the west, while at the same time allowing NATO to open it's Geneva office (not like the place isn't crawling with spooks, anyway), purchase F35s (plug & play for NATO), and they have also since sold RUAG Ammotec which supplies munitions to the Swiss military to Beretta in Italy.
Here's a newsflash: If you're relying heavily on other nations - especially those whose interests don't align with your own - to produce certain critical goods like ammunition for your army, then it's not really YOUR army now, is it? Just ask Zelensky how that's working out for him...Hard to remain "neutral" or even sovereign when someone has your ass over a barrel, as they say.
I find it highly disturbing that the elites here, despite the seemingly transparent and open system of government, appear to be dismantling our nation's world famous "neutrality" brick by brick, using manipulative language and what they would call "technicalities" to justify it.
For the record and full disclosure, I typically lean more to the right side of the political spectrum but will support and align with anyone, regardless of political stripe, in an effort to ensure Switzerland returns to a strict policy of true "neutrality" and non-interventionism and that it remains there.
As a born and raised Canadian, I know corruption and manipulation when I see it. In closing, I would propose that NATO membership or alignment, in whatever form it takes, presents a much greater threat to the well-being of our small, precious nation than anything a single, rouge state might hope to muster. The best way to ensure the safety, integrity and well-being of a nation is to go your own way and do business with whomever you prefer without taking sides or making enemies our of anyone.

Oh no! Please don't! What a disaster it would be right now. Don't even think about it. We already have enough problems inside Switzerland as to also be burdened by a declining Europe.
I live in Switzerland and I always was for Europe in the past, when conditions were still favorable and when people were at peace.
But now it would be a social and an economic total disaster.
Granted, Switzerland was never truly neutral, but was nevertheless spared the utter pains of European wars going on ever since earlier Centuries and indeed and especially during the 20th Century with its two World Wars.
Today is not the time to be adventurous. We would loose much more than just independence. Do we really want this? I certainly don't.
Maybe in the future we may change our stance about it, once all these chaotic wars have been resolved, but absolutely not now.
Besides, our Army is a joke. We were never involved in a major war and were always considered a defensive militia Army and as such it might have been effective, but not as an aggressive one. Compared to other Armies we are just a puny, insignificant one, totally unable to really cooperate into a much larger one.
Let's be real, right now it is a nice parade Army, but not prepared to face a true and extremely damning war.
Loosing out neutrality right now would also mean that we will also be a target for a potential enemy to flatten us completely.
    Are we ready for this?
I think not. We want peace and prosperity and not slaughter and total destruction.
But hey! Madness today runs rampant throughout the Western world, showing clearly a desperation that never ends to rule the world.
We are simply not prepared for this and not even NATO or the U.S. are.
Do we really want to be part of losers?

Even John Bolton from the USA was saying that Switzerland should join NATO. If Switzerland does this it will be the nail that drives Switzerland down with the rest of the west...DON'T DO IT SWITZERLAND. I think Amherd was a "thorn in the side" of Switzerland and how did she become the head of the Swiss Department of Defence? Thankfully the presidency changes in 2025. Swiss neutrality is not only necessary, it’s vital. An American asked me if I thought mandatory military service (or social service) for young people was a good idea. I responded maybe it could be ok if it was guaranteed that young soldiers were forbidden to fight outside the countries borders like Switzerland.

2 Staatliches Handeln muss im öffentlichen Interesse liegen und verhältnismässig sein.

How does siding with the aggressive, lawless, international law defying USA make Swiss citizens more secure?
In view of more pressing issues, how is spending billions on military, paying a 20% Profit Margin, 'verhältnismässig'?
How is siding with an expanding aggressive NATO serving a purpose that benefits Swiss Citizens?

"4 Bund und Kantone beachten das Völkerrecht." This is why Switzerland has been adopting most of the sanctions against Russia and others. Russia violated international law when it invaded Ukraine in February 2022. Siding or cooperating with NATO might benefit Switzerland in defending against an expanding aggressive Russia.
