- Welcome back to my channel everyone! After 2 years of waiting for the perfect smart lock, August has released the 4th generation of their Smartlock and I must say, I love it!

Does this work with the Keypad ?.
I have so much problem setting up the software on an iPhone with this lock. I can only operate it once (lock or unlock) each time I open the app. I then have to restart it again to operate the lock again. Lock sense Calibration always hangs and does not work. I’m still talking to August support to work this out.
Which deadbolt do you have? On their website they say they’re not supporting the low profile from kwikset
Love the locks but sadly August screwed me out of a discount they promised me in an email. That’s not likely to happen to others.
If you have more than one lock you can’t close all locks at one time. You must close them individually. You can’t set a time at night where all locks close. You can’t use Alexa to close all locks. Hopefully all of this will be fixed in a software update. I want to be able to say Alexa goodnight and be certain that all the locks close.
I've no idea where the tape goes to. he should moved the camera to show where the tape is.
Good video. I bought and installed three of these locks. I ended up having the same problem with all three. You didn’t have this problem. The screw holes on the face plate float. My three were sticky. When you attempt to put the screws into the deadbolt you can’t align to it. I called August many times and no one there could figure out the problem. I even spent over an hour on a video call and they couldn’t figure out the problem. Eventually on my own I figured out the problem was the hole didn’t float. What you need to do is lift it, jiggle it until the hole floats. August asked for a video showing the problem. I ended up talking with probably everyone in the customer service department. Lol. Now it works fine.
Wow sounds like you went through a mission to get it to work, I'm glad you were able to solve it. I'm glad I had no issues at all. So far it's working great!
Would like to have seen installation on metal frame.
Great video. This helps me a lot. I would like to see how this works from the outside. I assume you can open it with the key or with your smartphone.
It remains the same outside, in my case the original key unlocks the door or my phone.
@@MavicHeroFilms How does the automatic unlocking work? I have heard in a couple of other videos that you can set it up to automatically unlock when you get home but no one actually demonstrated it.
@@bradmorgan911 yes, I have mine set up to unlock by itself once it recognizes that I have arrived home. It uses wifi,gps and bluetooth to achieve this.
If you've arrived home and it auto-unlocks for you, that's great. But how does it know if you're leaving or you're just walking near your front door? Like let's say I walk 15ft away, it locks/unlocks. But what if I walk 15ft inwards my home and it locks and when I walk towards the door, it starts to unlock even though I don't want it to. Do you know how to accommodate that?
It does a good job of recognizing once you leave the bubble of your home. In the app you drop a pin point on a map, once you leave that bubble it'll automatically start the auto locking or unlocking process. It is very reliable and I use it everyday mainly when I go walk my dog around the neighborhood.
May I know must it use WIFI signal for open and close ? Can I use Bluetooth also ?
If you want to unlock it from anywhere that's not in bluetooth range it needs wifi.
Guys, what happen if I am outside and I did not have keys or phone with me, and it autolock??
You will most likely be locked out unless you have a hidden key outside
How is the battery life on the wifi model?
It's been lasting me like 4 to 5 months
It seems to be made for a used doors what about if I have anew one

Not bad, I ended up buying rechargeable batteries from Amazon that work pretty good.
Also what about all the reviews on Amazon saying there is issue with the WiFi connection, do you think it’s better than the old generation
I never had the old generation but this one works perfectly. I still haven't had any issues or bugs and it has worked perfectly. As of right now, I give it a 5 star.

Not even close honestly. You should take a look at the Schlage Encode.
As far as smart features I can say the August works better due to the Geo fencing used to unlock the door for me when I get close enough to my home. If I were to get a keypad smart lock I rather go with the lockly secure pro as it scrambles the numbers every time you go to unlock it that way you the smudge from your fingers doesn't give away the code or if someone is peeping over your shoulder.
@@MavicHeroFilms I had both, the Schlage is more reliable, works better with ring, Alexa and Google Home... and has a key.
@@faubourglincoln which model of the August did you have? The 4th gen? Because it also has a key. I looked into a kwikset one as well but it was mixed reviews. My biggest gripe is size when it comes to these smart locks.
