    I know I am 5 years late to the party, but I wanted to mention this.
    Another thing to note with the August Smart Lock Pro (because the standard August Smart Lock Gen 3 also can be purchased in a package including the Connect) is the Gen 3 Pro is the ONLY August lock to have Z-WAVE included with it, and this can be a good alternative to the Connect and WiFi. It is slightly quieter than the standard Gen 3 lock, but the standard Gen 3 looks a little more traditional and has a more obvious way to lock / unlock manually. When choosing the Gen 3 locks, the Pro vs Standard really comes down to hockey-puck verse more traditional and if you want Z-Wave. Note, Z-Wave is specific to the Gen 3 Pro. Gen 4, whether standard or Pro, does not have Z-Wave.

    • @TechToyTV

      I think a video would be a bit much for how the door sense works, it’s quite simple. Once installed, as seen in the video, the door sense then uses a magnet and sensor to show if the door is open, closed, locked or unlocked.

  • @MichaelAnthonyLee
    @MichaelAnthonyLee 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Thanks for the review. What sort of battery life are you getting from yours? I'm lucky to get two months. Yes, I'm using Alkaline non-rechargeable AA batteries.

    • @TechToyTV
      @TechToyTV  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Battery life depends a lot on the number of uses. Typically we get about 4 to 5 months out of our batteries. That’s with about 4 to 6 uses of the lock on average for a day

    • @TechToyTV
      @TechToyTV  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also, do you have the connect module with the lock? If so, are you getting good signal strengths in the app? If the smart lock is correctly installed then there will be no need to pull, push or lift the door which may drain out the battery faster. A faulty or sticky deadlock can also cause extra drain on the battery

    • @MichaelAnthonyLee
      @MichaelAnthonyLee 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TechToyTV I do have the August Connect with a good signal. I think I've got some drag on the motor caused by the lock not being 100% flush with the door surface. It's close, but not fully flush due to another security product I have installed on my door edge. From what I've been reading this might be causing the motor to work harder. Might have to relook at this given that others are saying they're actually getting 4-6 months out of their batteries.

    • @TechToyTV
      @TechToyTV  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would relocate the other product and see if that helps. The deadbolt lock needs to be smooth and easily engaged for maximum efficiency of the August smart lock, or any smart lock for that matter

    • @MichaelAnthonyLee
      @MichaelAnthonyLee 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TechToyTV unfortunately it can't be. It secures the front doors from being kicked in and runs the whole height of the door, wrapping around the edge. Instead I might need to put something under the August lock to slightly raise it.

  • @jibbsy1970
    @jibbsy1970 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great video! Two questions can this work with a regular door knob not a deadbolt? Secondly, can you set the door not to be unlocked? Meaning like overnight if somebody broke a side light and manually tuned the knob can this is controlled or set to sound an alarm in your phone? If yes this will kick up this lock above others I'm looking at

    • @TechToyTV
      @TechToyTV  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for the compliment! The August lock is meant to replace an existing deadbolt or installed as a new one. I’m not sure I understand your second question, could you clarify more as to what you mean?

      Make sure the bridge has a solid connection to your router, meaning there should be good Wi-Fi coverage in the area it’s placed. • @TechToyTV
      @TechToyTV  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Mike, I believe you have confused the different models of August locks. A quick check on the August website shows that for the August Smart Lock Pro (shown here in the video) that the DoorSense should be mounted no more than 1.5 inches from the top edge of your deadbolt strike plate, centered on the frame.
      For the Smart Lock (3rd generation) August recommends that the DoorSense should be mounted no more than 1.5 inches from the bottom edge of your deadbolt strike plate, centered on the frame.
