I have a dell studio xps 8100 which is my secondary pc for gaming at the moment, I changed the processor from I3 530 to this processor, with a new ssd, and power supply and I use a rtx 4060 for old games it works fine. But I've ordered rams to upgrade from 8GB to 32GB... In a word, incredible for a 15-year-old processor...
I gotta say, this video surprised the hell outta me. I was one of those ppl who thought anything less than 6 cores wasn't worthy for having, but this really put things into perspective for me. Great video, would love to see more like this! (I subbed btw) lol Keep it up bro!
brooo GG thats the true facts : ) GG i also had a pc like this and now after upgrading and selling my pc 8 times and combining my pocket money with it now i have the i5 12th gen
I used an i7 870 in my first build about 6 or 7 years ago that cpu was amazing especially for budget builders. I've since moved on to ryzen cpus (still being budget minded) but that 870 was the goat
I'm building a similar system right now! :) i7-870 on a Zotac H55ITX-C-E board with 8 GB GSkill Ripjaws 1333. For graphics I want to try something age approtiate first --> Zotac GTX 750 Ti. But maybe I will upgrade to a GTX 1660 Super that I still have in storage. All of this will go in some nice ITX case with tasteful black and red/orange color scheme :) Purpose? Don't know yet :D :D :D
You can still use this CPU for lighter tasks, older games or easier to run games. You can use it for streaming and watching videos pretty well. Let alone browse the web. It runs windows 10 pretty well when paired with decent DDR3 16gigs. It can probably even run windows 11 with TPM bypass. And it works just fine. Imagine running a PC from 1989 in 2009, using an OS like Windows XP/7/Vista. It'd basically be unusable, it couldn't run the OS let alone browse the internet. PCs age well nowadays. :)
I remember those days :) I believe I still had Pentium 4 at the time, didn't upgrade for a while. Then my dad got us a dual core LGA 775 PC, forgot which one it was, and after that I got i7 3770 PC. Good old days :)
That's amazing! Impressed. This went a lot better than I expected. I have a Q9550 which is a lot weakers still. It has 4 cores, 4 threads and can run lighter games alright and regular computer stuff like ms office, browsing, discord or whatsapp works completely fine. But these modern games you played are definitely (generally speaking) asking a bit too much of that cpu.
Great review, I am watching it on my PC - Gigabyte GA-p55A-UD4P with that CPU and NVIDIA GForce GTX 1660 Super Graphics, only have 6 gigs RAM but planning to upgrade it with 16gigs sticks. Looks like it still have a bit of life in it before I can get a better PC.
I upgraded my 2009 Dell XPS 8000 from the i5-750 to an i7-870. I am running 16GB 1333 mHz RAM and a GTX 1060 6GB. It is running awesome, but I am curious about trying a RTX 3050 or similar GPU.
GTX 1050 TI, 1650, 1060, 970 or any other similar GPU is fine. The issue will be that the CPU is too old and many games will struggle to utilize its full power. I would personally wanna pair it with a 1060 6GB or 1050 TI 4GB. But consider other GPUs as well, even if it's RTX 2060 or better. If you get a modern CPU and motherboard in the future, you will already have a suitable GPU for it. So don't ignore the better GPUs if you get a really good deal on them.
Great video, im trying to get a Pc, current using a notebook from 2011 with i3 4th gen and Intel HD graphics, um trying to get something cheap becouse i cant efford
If you're on a tight budget, see if you can find one of those Optiplex PCs and put a GTX 1050 TI (or better) in it, just depends on what PSU the PC will have. These PCs usually have really weak 300W (or better) PSUs. Or build a 4th gen i7 PC, it's a really good value and get whichever GPU you can. If you buy an already built PC, it'll cost a lot more. If you build it yourself, you'll save a lot of money (which you'll have to do in this case). This might seem difficult, but when I think about the times where I had very little, now it's just good memories to me. It's not fun when it's easy. It's fine if something goes wrong, but as long as you research everything and do a good job at not getting scammed, you'll already do better job than what I did many years ago. I got scammed on my very first purchase. Always test everything before you make the purchase and go with only safe options. You should only risk it if you're ready to lose (if things go bad). Hope this is useful info to you.
@@TheAmazingXizde Ryzen 7 1700 has many, but slow cores. Consider Ryzen 5 5500 if you can find it for $50-65, it'll serve you better. As for the X3D processor, just go with Ryzen 7 5700X3D later on. It's a better value and you won't need to upgrade for many years. I highly recommend a B550 motherboard. But if you get an amazing deal on a B450, that is fine too. Don't get faster than 3200MHz RAM, there's a high chance that it might be unstable. Get CL16 3200MHz if you can, that's the sweet spot for AM4.
Hi, I want to react on your Domm Eternal segment on low-end hardware : Not to dissmiss your point, but idSoftware is as close as you can be from the best case scenario : For them, optimization is not an afterthough, done with ductape and woodensticks, it's a core foundation of how they make games. Their employees are technical people at heart, not some loonies freshly dumped out of a woke university's ass, more concernend about being refered to with the right pronouns than to actually doing a good job. We should cherish them as much as we can right now : because when they're gone, we are fooked.
I had this CPU for about a decade before upgrading lol, what a beast
I still have it in my old PC 😂
Good work! Thought this was from an already established channel at first.
Thank you, I'm doing my best.

it was beast back then.

It's a legendary CPU :) The fact that it can still be relevant (or even more than that) after 15 years is really impressive.
I still have a weaker i5-760 and motherboard of that time.(gigabyte ga-p55a-ud4)
just upgraded from i 5 750 to i7 870 and got much more performance, now i think im gonna upgrade my hd 5850 to a gtx 1060 6gb

actually using i7 870 16gb (same mobo as u) GTX 1070 (blower oem asus) (running modified windows 11 os) runs perfectly , just stutters on fortntie..
Yeah, Fortnite does stutter on older hardware. It takes a few matches for it fully load the shaders, then it becomes a lot more stable.
DAMMN.
It was a 562 USD 10 years ago, so around 750 USD in todays money... not a cheap CPU.
