  • For 64 years, the Disney classic "Bambi" left a mysterious void between the death of the young prince's mother and his adulthood. So naturally, this was an investigation I could not turn down.

    I love this movie. One of the few Disney movies (as well as kids movies) that actually talks about single father's trying to raise their kids.

    •  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Not to mention showing it, along with the characters mourning their loss, in other Disney movies the parents either died off screen or the plot gets too break neck speed to show the characters crying it out.

    • @scotttrail522
      @scotttrail522 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @ Well, Littlefoot got to "cry it out." I think that they should make a type of thing where Young Bambi and the Mouse themselves should be watching the animated cartoons that spawned from that one Disney cartoon back in 1942. Then after they're done, they watch the one that was responsible: both of Young Bambi's movies. It's then, that he looks back at that scene and realizes . . . "Mother . . . is dead?" Mickey, in a well-deserved grieving state that matches the Fawn's own, comforts Bambi as he asks: "Why was this scene never shown?", and "Who was it that killed Mother?"

    Bambi 2 had more thought put into it for sure. It's not a flipped retread version of the original movie (Little Mermaid 2, Lady and the Tramp 2), a pilot for a cartoon series (Cinderella 2, Tarzan and Jane, and Atlantis Milo's Return), nor a insult to the original (Hunchback 2).
    I was as surprised as you at how this movie tried. Sure some stuff is hokey but I'll take it over cash grabs any day. Thank you for this video, sir. ^-^

      I like how you said that the midquel to Young Bambi's only debut movie (what will we do without him?) isn't "a flipped, retread version of the original movie (The Little Mermaid 2, Lady and the Tramp 2); a pilot for a cartoon series (Cinderella 2, Tarzan and Jane, Atlantis: Milo's Return); nor an insult to the original (The Hunchback of Notre Dame 2)."

      It's not a boring midquel like Belle's magical world either where; all the characters are annoying or stupid, the music is lame and the animation is ugly :) I'm glad Bambi 2 developped the relation between his father and him, had a pretty song and beautiful backgrounds.

    while i prefer the first movie over this one, i'm still thankful Bambi 2 exists. it may not be great, but it does a damn good job telling its own story while also sticking to the heart and spirit of the first one, and it's up there with Lion King 2 as one of the better straight-to-video sequels Disney ever made. hell, i'd take these 2 gems over any of Disney's stupid live-action remakes any day

    About that thing about how old the great prince. You can actually tell a bucks age by its antlers. Deer shed their antlers each year and they grow back with more points. Id say hes about 4 to 6 which is old af for a white tailed. So he has heaps of wisdom and a full rack. Hes old

    • @scotttrail522
      @scotttrail522 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      So. . . The Great Prince is THE oldest Disney King? I mean, come on-- just bear with me, here: there's probably a short line of Disney Queens (with Bambi's mother being an exception as the Great Princess, giving her a higher authority over all Queens and Princessess), that his dad deserves his place as King Mickey's lieutenant.

    This was a great review. The plot hole besides I think you judged it fair and I admit I enjoy Bambi 2 more than the first one. Oh and in other countries the film was released in theaters and called, Bambi and the Great Prince of the Forest which I think is a better and less confusing title.
    Keep up the good work as always :)

    •  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The great prince said:"JUST ABOUT"so I assume he's referring to that he meet her around the same time when:antlers.(the"lived so long"bit I think isn't about he's age but:"lives to fight another day")

    • @scotttrail522
      @scotttrail522 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, considering that The Land Before Time ripped off Bambi in the first place. . .
      1: Kimba the White Lion, 1964
      2: The Fox and the Hound, 1981
      3: The Land Before Time, 1988
      4: The Lion King, 1994
      . . . The Young Fawn's debut movie-- which started development in 1938, meaning that the title character is 2 years old-- is the original coming-of-age story.

    Did anyone else get the irony joke of Faline and Bambi's response to Ronno's story: They both call his story "Unbelievable".
    Ronno believes Bambi's being sarcastic (even though is clear he's genuinely impressed) obviously because he's a male.
    But actually _Faline_ was using sarcasm, which goes over his head because she's a female.

    Deer can be dangerous, and it’s not just the antlers. Their hooves are built in knives and they can be extremely stand-offish, especially during the autumn season.
    If any dog survived, they are indestructible.

    I love that Mina quoted Bambi's Mother word for word and the film didn't cut to a flashback. An inferior movie would have spelled it out for us - Frozen did so when Anna arrived at Elsa's ice palace - but the death of Mother is so iconic that the filmmakers knew everybody would make the connection. Bambi's reaction alone tells us exactly what's going through his head when Mina said that line.

  • @hannahprewitt4215

    If we’re talking about the great prince’s age, then I will estimate it in human years. I’m guessing that most deers have been hunted, or just have a short life span in the logic of Disney. I’m going to be generous and say that the deers usually live up to be about 20 or 25. I’m guessing that Bambi’s dad is about 30 (or at least in his 30s) years old, and what his mom was saying was a little exaggerated due to how much she loves him (from what I’ve seen, some women brag about their husbands). It would make sense considering that if he was any older, he would have been dead by the time Bambi was fully grown. I’m most likely wrong, and this is just a theory. Thank you and have a good day!

    • @catherinecao4810
      @catherinecao4810 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Animals can live longer than they are expected.
      There are humans can live for about 100 years, but the average is about 65-75 years.
      Maybe the Great Prince is a lucky one.

      That Bambi's friends would be good emotional support to help him move past the pain of his traumatic experiences.

    • @scotttrail522
      @scotttrail522 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheDetectiveSteve Wait, wait, hold up a minute. In the original film (during production of 1940), when Bambi comes across his absent father-- And I say this because the stag has been away for mostly every single moment, hence Bambi having to be raised by his mother.--, the stag tells him, "Your mother can't be with you anymore.", leading Bambi to believe that his mother probably left. . . but not in the way that Bambi thought, because the Great Prince knows exactly what happened to the mother, yet he doesn't tell Bambi.
      Or, does Bambi know that his mother is dead?
      If Bambi found his mother's dead body, then he'd really be traumatized.

    After all the beautiful music and brilliant use of silences in the absolutely glory-piece that was the original movie, they completely throw it around and cram it full of ridiculous dialogue and silly modern pop-music.
    This movie is not half as good as the original. Change my mind.
    The music was better as well. There is not even a single bit of contest between the (comparable) simplicity of this movie's musical scores and the inctedible music of the original.
