The WORST Disney Sequel? - The Fox and the Hound 2 Review

To be honest I felt like Fox and the hound two would have been a better TV show rather than a full length movie. I grew up watching A lot of the direct to video sequels including Bambi 2 and the lion King two Simba‘s pride. I didn’t even know fox and the hound had a sequel until a few years ago when I saw people online talking about how terrible it is. So I decided to watch the movie for myself a few months ago and it definitely wasn’t good. There were a few things I did like about the movie though.
The animation was quite nice although like you said not being nearly as good as it was in the first movie since this is a direct to video movie. But compared to some of the other direct video sequels like return of Jafar or hunchback of Notre Dame 2 the animation looks very nice for what it is.
One of the Biggest problems I had with this movie was how most of the main characters like vixey, big Mama, dinky, and Boomer the birds. None of them are in the movie and are not even mentioned. Obviously it makes sense that vixey wouldn’t be mentioned since Todd hadn’t even met her yet at this point but big mama was like you said a pretty big part of the first movie. The only explanation I can think of for why she wasn’t in the movie is because perhaps they decided not to include her since her voice actress Pearl Bailey had passed away long before back in 1990.
They do this a lot in the sequels for example in the lion king 2 Simbas mother Sarabi is nowhere to be seen and people think it’s because her voice actress died before the movie was even made and they decided not to include her character.
I feel like Fox and hound 2 is an OK movie for like little little kids because it’s definitely more childish, cartoony and dumbed down. Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing because it’s still made by a company geared towards younger children but, the original movie was more dark and had a lot of dark moments in it. The first five minutes of the first movie we have Todd’s mother being shot, even moments where The other characters show Todd the shed full of animal hides and you can see a fox hide which is most likely his mother’s skin.
I think a better sequel to Fox and hound would be a story line about Todd and vixey and their children because I feel like they could do a lot with that. It is actually confirmed in a few of Disney’s published books that Todd and Vixey after the events of the movie had two kits a boy and a girl.
I think reviews of this film would be more fun to watch than the film itself.
Well...i wouldn't call it the absolute WORST...don't get me wrong, i hate it. But i don't think it's the worst. I'm saying this as someone who had to watch disney sequels as a child because his daycare teacher had an obsession with disney, and i can say that there are disney sequels MUCH worse than this. The only redeeming thing about this one is the animation, it's surprisingly really good. Everything else about this movie sucks though. And this comes from someone who grew up watching the first film.
i have to be honest fox and the hound the original isn't exactly my favorite its a little too simple from a story telling point of view
As a child I liked the movie but now that I'm older I think it's one of my least favourite Disney sequels along with Cars 2 and Toy Story 4.
