If you're looking for rural property, whether off grid or not, all of these things are important to consider regardless of your region:
    Timestamps:
00:00 Number One: Set Clear Goals
Whether with a partner or alone, if you don't know what you're looking for, how will you know when you find it? This chapter covers clarity and some basic questions to ask yourself.
    02:16 Number Two: Region
Should you consider politics? Or are your neighbors more important? This chapter covers some topics that might affect you depending on the region you're searching.
    07:31 Number Three: Weather
What extreme weather forces might you need to contend with? This chapter discusses equipment, insurance, road maintenance and access, as well as how weather can affect solar panels, wind turbines, propane and gardening.
    07:32 Number Four: Immediate Location
What surrounds your house and land? While you may think you can overlook the smell of a pig farm next door, after the first summer you may change your mind. This chapter discusses factors that can affect your quality of life on a daily basis.
    15:29 Number Five: Water
This chapter discusses the costs inherent in having a well dug as well as alternatives to a well like cisterns and hauling water.
19:08 Number Six: Layout of the House and Land
Does the land you're considering have a clearing large enough for solar panels to be effective? Does the land have hardwoods you can use for firewood? Does the house have a cellar or basement where you can safely store your solar equipment? This chapter covers some topics that may not be immediately obvious when considering property.
24:16 Number Seven: Potential and Realism
While you need to be excited about your big move, letting your excitement cloud your judgement can be a mistake you'll regret later. What skills do you realistically have and how much do things really cost? Do you have the initiative, drive and grit to really do it? If you do, you're about to have a great adventure!

We're John and Greta and we've been living off grid in eastern Washington since 2020. We're just a couple Gen X-ers, minding our business, getting back to basics, and enjoying the comforts that make life worth living.
Our farm is in a high desert region, meaning water is scarce. In winter, temps can dip below -30F and it snows a lot! Despite the challenges, we're happy here growing our food, creating our power from solar and wind, chopping firewood, and baking from scratch. We live simply and work with what we have.
Our videos are practical, sometimes steering into the philosophical, but always created to help others who are interested in off grid living. Whether your exploring an off grid life for your future or just curious about this lifestyle, you're welcome here. Thanks for watching!
