    This guy completely misses the point of a Corolla. The Corolla is a great car FOR WHAT IT IS: Comfortable, reliable, solid, reliable, user-friendly, reliable. Did I mention reliable? There's a reason Corollas dominate the small car market. Anyone listening to this review owes it to himself to review reliability data that is objective, not the Corolla-basher whose Cruze/Jetta/Focus is always in the shop as they look for squeaks, rattles, or electronic gremlins.

    Basically the car is targeted for young people. This is very clear when he says that the corolla is uncomfortable and how it should have an SD card slot. Honestly, I can almost guarantee that no young person would be using a SD card. I have a 2017 SE and I very much enjoy it. I admit it's not like riding in a rolls Royce but it looks good and is decently comfortable.

    I got an XSE for 20 out the door. While I do agree, it’s a little slow and loud at the highway. I love how well it rides, how comfortable it drives on the highway, and its fuel efficiency. Just yesterday I drove 120 miles and got 39 mpg at 75 miles per hour. It’s not the best but it’s a Corolla. An economy car.

    For people complaining a Corolla is slow it's a commuter car it's not supposed to be fast. If you want a fast car get a Dodge Hellcat or a Mustang. The Corolla is a good car for gas mileage and can last over 300,000 miles and to compare a Chevy Cruze is ridiculous the quality isn't there,

    Only valid complaint is the CVT and that's why you buy a 6 speed. You pay the car off in a 4 years and sell the thing because it retains it's value and people are lining up to buy. 5 yr old Chev cruze will be worth a dime in 4 or 5 years.

    Hmm... It's just logical to buy a Corolla if you want good resale value and excellent reliability. Or a Honda Civic. It makes absolutely no sense throwing money away on say a German car or an American car because in just as little as 2 years, those cars are worth nothing.
    The current Corolla is a vast improvement over previous models. More room, more comfort, better fuel economy than most of it's competitors (not top of the class, but close). This Corolla in the video is not the average Corolla that it used to be.

    In case anyone looking for a used 2017 corolla, see below!
    I own the 2017 LE. I ain't even mad at your complaints. 24K is just too much for any corolla in that model year. I got mine used for 13K at 22K miles, after I rented another LE for work a few times, and it IS comfortable for ME and it rides well. NOW, I did test drive one of the corolla hatchbacks of the 2017 model year. DID NOT LIKE IT. Rode like a skateboard, looked fast, was slow as every other corolla, didn't like the seats. Seems like the XSE is a lot like the hatchback. So yeah, I wouldn't get the SE XSE hatchback corolla from these model years either! LE is the sweet spot (more comfortable ride, seats and it honest about itself as having zippo performance)
    But really, at 24K, just get an accord, camry, sonata, (had 09 sonata for 7+ years!) and really that goes for every model year people.

    • @connordurham8216
      @connordurham8216 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You realize that a Camry started at $23,900. For $100 more you get heated power leather seats with a sunroof, smart key with push button start, Toyota safety sense P, LED headlights, LED daytime running lights, a 7 inch touchscreen with embedded navigation, with excellent fuel economy, if you wanted most of those features you would have to go with a V6 Camry fully loaded. That would be an extra $12,000 more. Someone on a budget would probably prefer the corolla because the over $12,000 cheaper price. The only thing that would be better is the power, and that comes out of cost of poor fuel economy compared to the corolla. the XSE and SE trims are meant for more sporty driving and looks. I have a XSE and I think it’s comfortable and so are the seats. The L models. L, LE, XLE are meant to be more luxurious and comfortable.

    You description says that "Toyota didn't pay attention to the details." If you study everything in the car, EVERY piece, the materials of every piece, every stitching, the EXACT placement of every single BUTTON and material in the car, you will notice... that they have thought of EVERYTHING. Everything YOU have thought of, THEY have thought of YEARS ago. This is not up for discussion, because it is a fact. If you happen to "disagree", then you are not an engineer or do not think like an engineer, or do not have the capability of questioning why things are the way they are, or an imagination to give you those answers. You are absolutely incorrect about all of the things you have said. Quality? Let's talk quality. Materials? Let's talk materials. The materials they have chosen have been tested, failed, tested, failed, tested, failed, succeeded. They have chosen the VERY SPECIFIC POLYMERS FOR EACH PLASTIC for very important reasons. What chemicals will these materials be exposed to? What environment will these materials be exposed to? Heat? Cold? Water? Alcohol? Gasoline after someone pumps gas and gets it on their hands? How will these parts perform in an accident? Will their clips hold during an accident but not break when trying to purposely take them off? Engineering. If you get MAD, then you do not understand engineering or how Toyota engineers think. The tires which come with the corolla (firestone) are bad and have a lot of potential for slip. The engineers chose those tires for various purposes. I put continental DWS 06 on my 16 corolla and it performs like im driving a bmw m3. HUGE difference. The reason they chose those crap tires is because it is better for the vehicle to slip than to put excessive force when turning onto steering and wheel components (hub, bearing, bolts, rim). You can think what you want, but Toyota is number 1. Has been number 1. And will continue to be... number 1. Moving Forward.

    • @RoadandTract
      @RoadandTract  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You're an apologist for shitty execution. Everything you mention as a "fact" is in fact a failure. That's why Toyota was eager to announce the 2020 model. This 2017 dumpster fire needs to go away.

    Toyota will never 'improve' the Corolla; they sell it like an appliance and the buyers expect an appliance. There's almost 0 incentive for Toyota to spend time, effort & budget to make it as everyone who won't buy a Corolla...will never consider a Corolla. People who buy Corollas today in the sea of great cars like the MY2016+ Cruze are (excuse me) the lowest common denominator of anyone who holds a driving license.

    So true! The interior build quality of new Toyota cars are just subpar and they are unrefined compare to their German and domestic counterparts. Modern Toyota cars are really loud at speed and get average fuel economy. This is not the Toyota we knew. Toyota is still selling many of its cars because people associate the brand with great build quality and good reliability.

  • @dawn-moon
    @dawn-moon 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Well, talking about the obvious... Compared to German cars , indeed , there's always been some "details" the Japanese designers forget to pay attention to. German cars have always been better in making them feel superior. But they do brake down more often. ( comparing the 2 cars I have bought when I was younger : Vits ( Yaris ) sport 1.5 , and Corolla 2004 3drs 2.0 Diesel ( Sol version ) , vs 2 German company cars I got so far , 2008 Mercedes C-class ( Avantgarde version ) and 2012 VW Passat estate ( Highline version ).

    • @RoadandTract
      @RoadandTract  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Chances are you drove the German cars harder than the Toyotas because the Mercedes and Volkswagen can handle the higher speeds, harder braking, faster cornering, etc. So it stands to reason that more maintenance and more repairs on the cars driver harder is expected.

    • @dawn-moon
      @dawn-moon 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Actually I have abused my first Toyota ( Yaris t sport ) a lot harder , my first set of Yokohama tires ( default ) were completely worn after only 16000kms. I overheated my clutch several times when taking off at traffic lights etc etc... but indeed , in pure horsepower , the Germans could go faster. Except for the C-class ( 3rd gear snapped because clutch springs failed ) , all issues with my German cars were mostly electronic issues. Among colleagues , all driving German cars due to our car policies , sometimes a turbo hose, oil pump or water pump fail ... those are things you will mostly not run into with a JAP car...

    • @RoadandTract
      @RoadandTract  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Dawn Moon You just described your Toyota as UNABLE to hold up to your driving style mechanically. Yet, you call it reliable. Meanwhile, you run out of issues to discuss on your Mercedes, so you go ahead and toss in experiences from colleagues to embellish unreliability. However, your Toyota was worse at holding up to your driving style.

    I'm gonna have to agree with you. Corolla's after 2008 model have bad build quality. you'll notice that from 2009 model, amount of soft touch materials in the interior was reduced, even the seat fabrics are of really low quality and the stitching looks like that of a hand sewing machine, as much as i own a corolla, I think there are better cars for the price, like Honda Civic, Hyundai Elantra, Golf/Jetta, Chevy Cruze and most of all Mazda 3. A 2.5 litre/auto-manual Mazda 3 with more power matches the fuel economy of the corolla at 1.8ltr/CVT combo. The Civic turbo beats the corolla in performance, handling and fuel efficiency at the same time. Toyota needs to address quality issues and ride comfort as market shares may swing against their favour sooner than they expect.

    If your looking into fuel efficient and passenger capable cars pick the Cruze or Dodge Dart all starting under 20,000$ if your ok a really cheap budget and want something that's great ok gas and will carry passengers who aren't that big choose the spark or sonic they both get amazing gas mileage. The Cruze first generation and the new design run phenomenal we have a 1st gen Cruze and it doesn't lag power doesn't suck gas a full tank gets you over 400 miles. Has very great safety with 10 standard airbags including a drivers knee air bag. Great trunk room for its class decent leg room in the rear. Standard onstar, power windows locks and mirrors. Someone I know tried a corolla and it was brand new and the engine blew the second day she got it. If your doing Toyota get a Camry or Avalon

    Volkswagen Jetta?😂 my mom got the Volkswagen Jetta and the FIRST week right off the showroom the push button start broke then a few months later the transmission got stuck in reverse. And last month the leather started ripping and the blind spot monitoring broke! Thank got her lease is now up and we have a new civic!

      New Car Spin GM products are awful on quality control. They have no value once you drive them off the lot. This is the top selling car of all time. Your complaining about sound and ride quality but corolla was never meant for that. You want that go European but they are garbage when they age. They are meant for getting you from a to b and nothing more. They aren’t fancy by any means but that isn’t what they are meant for. You literally just complained the whole time that the car doesn’t drive and perform like a high-end European car. Recommending GM products to people tells me how much you actually know about cars.😂 At least the gm techs will stay busy once the premier breaks down.

      I agree. But the 2018 Camry was a surprise and the 2019 Corolla hatchback was an even bigger surprise. I have the videos on my channel. Check out my Toyota playlist!

  • @vincentsalazar3887
    @vincentsalazar3887 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think personally your not seeing the point of that generation of Corolla they just wanted to make a car for someone that needed to recommend a to someone that didn't know much about car and didn't want to do research and get an aneurism in the process. Also I did just get a previous 2014 corolla and yes it has its short comings like plastics but I at least I can put a lot of miles on the car and it wont give me problems the older it gets. So yes I can kind of see what your saying but this car is a pure utility vehicle and that's okay its not meant to turn heads and impress people but just get you there from point A to B and that's it.

    • @RoadandTract
      @RoadandTract  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are out of perspective. I drove this car when it was new. It was terrible and Toyota knows it because they only made this version for a few years. Nobody bought this other than Uber drivers - and what misery that would be, to drive this POS all day on a daily basis. Buying one used today is a better proposal for some college kid, but it won't matter. Why buy a used Toyota when you can lease a new one?
