It’s so crazy bc as I started reading about this I was thinking I wonder if each one has a meaning and then she said that!!!!! I was like wow ! God really does answer questions when ur reading
We learn that Pharoah makes a promise to yield, but the minute the plague (frogs) vanish, so do his promises. My reflection on this is that we as humans have often done the same thing. For example, we promise to eat healthy if our illness vanishes but the minute it vanishes, so does our promise and we return to an unhealthy diet.
It can be a dangerous thing to disobey God. It hardens the heart. It makes each next decision a little easier towards telling God no. We must be very careful to not allow our hearts to be hard towards the Lord.
Once the Holy Spirit said to me that each time is going to be harder and harder to stop watching porn and I thought I listened but I chose the path of being victim and needing saviour again even though He already saved me from this sin.
Also notice the minute human lives were in danger, God gave an opportunity for them to be saved and get shelter but their freewill took them down their own path which led to death. God gives us free will, and that free will can get us into trouble
My God shot is His grace through multiple chances for Pharaoh to do the right thing. Just like His grace for us being patient with us every time we fail to trust in Him.
God is the Master over Disaster. He uses trouble to turn our hearts to Him. Look what happened in Genesis not long after the flood: people’s hearts follow their own way and you get the Tower of Babel, so God scatters them and sets apart Abraham. Through trouble, Job sees God more clearly. We’ve seen how God used evil for good through Joseph. My hard heart is softened and drawn closer to God when He uses tragedy in my life.
God showed mercy and warned even His enemies, the Egyptians, to shelter their livestock because every animal and person still out would die in the hailstorm (Exo 9:19).
Thank God for transforming Hearts that are yielded to Him for our Good thanking Him for Jesus ❤️💯🙌🏽 Good morning Family Have a blessed day in His Presence!! He is where the Joy is 💯❤️
God is sovereign over hearts. God is patient with us when we are in sin. Yes and Amen! I am so thankful for the Lord's patience with me 🙌🏽. I do remember learning (again from a Jen Wilkin study) about the plagues being against the different "gods" of Egypt. The Lord is truly sovereign over all things! Notes that I jotted down from today's reading: It still amazes me just how hard Pharaoh's heart was. Even though he was told what would happen, it didn't matter. It just shows that if someone is completely resistant to God, there is no turning their heart. It is also interesting to me that Pharaoh's magicians were able to re-create what was done in the beginning. They were able to turn their staff into snakes, but they were eaten up. The magicians were also able to re-create the first 3 plagues, but it stopped after that. People can try to act as if they are a diety, but there is only One True God, and He has all power and authority.
The human condition in our fallen state is a constant. Paul points out in Romans 1 that evidence is abundant, but the hearts of those who deny Him will be deceived by choice.
Yahweh is hardening Pharaoh's heart in order to create a DRAMATIC SHOWDOWN between himself and the Egyptian gods (fallen angels)! He wants to show his supremacy not only to the Egyptians, but to their gods as well. In a way, the whole Old Testament is the story of Yahweh versus the gods of other nations. He also wants to show the Israelites his power - they've never seen it before. AND he wants the nations currently occupying the promised land to hear about it and be greatly afraid. Read Joshua 2:8-11, it's so awesome! 💪😃👍🧡

Wow my God shot is how as people we often think or perform like we are like God by creating certain situations…..like the nativism’s but God reminds us time and time again we can’t fix it and we lack the Supreme intelligence to fix it or use our God given power in the correct way! Plus like you said Gods plan is the best and He knows when and where! Whew!
That's interesting! I never considered that the magicians and sorcerers were adding to the problem and making things worse. I only thought of how their attempts were limited counterfeits
Thank you for the videos, Bible Recap team. I look forward to watching every day. I like it even more than listening on the podcast; I didn't expect there to be a difference to me.
God is sovereign over hearts, yes. But I would caution against equating God's working out a VERY special plan here in this specific case by hardening Pharaoh's heart with the idea that God controls everyone's heart all the time. God gives us free will. He does not generally make anyone do/not do anything in this lifetime. God gives people choices and leaves their decisions up to them over and over again in the Bible.
Hi. I don’t think that’s what her message was here. The story of Pharaoh actually shows how God allows people to make their own free will and/or choices. God gave Pharaoh plenty of chances to change and Pharaohs heart hardened on his own volition. I think her message here is God CAN control all hearts, but that doesn’t mean He will. Pharaoh made a conscience decision time and time again but as the Bible explains, God is sovereign over it all and if it happens then God is in control of it.
When I read through the plagues I thought about why there were so many but understand that God judges us to do right and believe. It's been a month since I started the recap, very interesting so far!
God is loving, just, and all-powerful and we see this clearly in the story of the salvation of the nation of Israel. God has declared to Moses exactly what and how it will happen, and how Moses and Aaron will participate. The brothers must simply obey and God will do the rest in a great display of power that will serve to strenghen their faith, the reader's, and hopefully the nation of Israel. God repeatedly has Moses and Moses' mouthpiece Aaron appeal to Pharoah to let the people leave the land to worship, but Pharaoh refuses each time. Each time God brings an act to the nation of Egypt that is an affront and a mockery to their faith, their pantheon of Gods, and all that the Egyptian's revere in power. This way, he clearly and undeniably displays His dominion. Further defiance must be against all sense and logic. God is all-knowing and all-powerful and perfectly displays this in an act of love and care to deliver his people while creating a story to illustrate this for all time.
Todays reading hits me right to my heart, I question God’s choices so many times and as I do I know I’m wrong but I still do it. Like when a dear women 41 with 5 amazing children and a amazing husband and such a giver to all she even adopted 3 babies because she felt they needed her well she got cancer and died just 2 months later. I was mad at God I questioned him even though I knew he had his reasons. I’m a sinner for sure.
Sounds like me and losing the ability to walk not once but twice. I still want answers and am often angry. Working on that but what the heck! 😂 So sad to hear about that woman. I know one with cancer and adopted disabled children… So not fair.

This has always been confusing for me as well. God gives us free will, and it makes sense if Pharoahs hard was hard on his own, but I get confused when it says God hardened his heart
I'm not Tara Leigh unfortunately, but maybe this might be a little help. I remember reading that verse and wondering the same thing years ago. After reading this passage over and over again and also studying the Hebrew word itself this is my understanding of what's going on here. There's 2 words that are being used whenever you see the word hardened or stiffened. One has to do with God's active hand in the process and the other has to do with something that is already happened and just is what it is. There's only 2 I think where it suggests God had something to do with Pharaoh's heart. The rest of the times that it's mentioned suggest that he already had his mind made up. The other thing you have to consider is the entire rest of the Bible and God's relationship with people in general. He never compromises free will. So all that taken into account... I believe what I see is God is basically saying, "hey, I could make you do what I want you to do but I'm not going to do that. I'm going to give you the power Pharoah to do what you really want to do." In other words, God is actively letting Pharoah exercise his own will. Why? I think because it displays even more boldly that we may have our plans but God's plans are bigger and will happen despite what the world is doing. And I think in this case God is not only thinking of the Hebrews, but also is changing the hearts of the Egyptians as well.
Yes that is a very helpful explanation. I also watched a video recently about the theological beliefs of people being predestined to make their own decisions even though they are bad ones, like you said it's because of the Free Will given to them. But it is predestined. They will turn away from God so that God can use them in the entire story that he has for us of showing his power and doing all for advancing the kingdom. In other words, some people believe we choose our destinies and we are either chosen to be God's people for we choose our own free will to do evil, even before the foundations of the earth we're laid out. I hope this helps as well.
Hello Tara and listeners ok my God shot was how when the plagues hit he did not have his people go through what the Egyptian went through although he ( God) knew pharaoh would bag for them to take the plagues away he took them away but, he also harden pharaoh’s heart and he would take it back and God showed him compassion every time.
Maybe someone has already asked somewhere here in the comments, but I’m wondering how much time took place between plague 5 and #6 & #7 - I thought all the livestock were killed in 5. How do they have boils in 6 (unless the animals mentioned here are not specifically “livestock”) and need to be brought into shelters in 7? 🤔
I wondered the same thing. I thought maybe it meant all other animals that weren't livestock. That's the conclusion I came up with, but don't know if I'm correct.
Lot of things stood out for me but here's the first I saw. Just as God chose Moses, God also chose us and adopted us; I saw here today that God explicitly told Moses that He made him as God to Pharaoh, this is me reminding myself that I'm a god to the unbelievers as well. Moses wasn't alone when he was chosen, he has with him Aaron as his prophet; likewise when God chose us and we stepped into faith, He gave us His Spirit as our Prophet. And that's why it's advised that as far as you have the Holy Spirit in you, you're your own prophet. We don't need to go looking for what's not lost, we have everything in Christ and His Spirit He gave us.
I had a similar thought regarding the fact that Moses was made like God to an unbeliever, while Aaron was his Prophet (spokesperson) I would clarify that we are made in the image of God and His Spirit gives us the revelation directly so we can release it to others as His spokesperson. So in this case we would be a representative of God speaking on His behalf and many would assume we are like God until we point them to the One responsible for the message. God's original intention with Moses was what He is still doing in His people today - He wanted to speak directly through Moses but his fear caused Aaron to have to get involved. But God had to allow this middleman situation for a time bc ultimately Moses was assigned the task to lead and if Aaron could get the message from God directly then Aaron would have led Israel... sorry for the extra explanation but I hope this brings a little clarity on how to view this opinion in a diff way.
@@MyLivingJournal look at it this way, it was mentioned twice in the bible that Paul was referred to gods, why was that? First in Acts 14:7-12, Paul healed a lame man and the indigenes motioned that the gods (Paul and Barnabas) had come down to them. Second was in Acts 28:1-6, where a beast bit Paul and it had no effect on him. So now I'll say we're gods in the eyes of the unbelievers because we do extraordinary things, things that seemingly seem impossible. Plus the bible even mentions that we're gods too. We ain't just gods to help our lives alone but to bring unbelievers to the knowledge of God. Just as God isn't God for Himself but to us by the show of His greater power, royal majesty and love towards humanhood. I hope I didn't end up confusing you 😅
Is the phrase "children of Isreal" referring to the location....or country of Isreal, or is it referring to the lineage of Jacob? (Isreal) Thank you for any light you will shed on my question. ❤
I heard that all of the 10 plagues had something to do with a God that the Egyptians worshiped. If so, it's a possibility that God was making a mockery of their idols.
I've read these chapters before & what stuck out for me was that God was trying to kill moses' son but his wife stepped in and circumcised her son. I sure don't understand any of this. Very strange things. The old testament does not make a bit of sense to me & I surely don't see how Tara came away with these things she shares with us & why do I not see things like that when I am also a Christian. Its very frustrating & confusing to say the least.
I agree, as a newer bible reader it’s frustrating when Tara refers to passages I’m not familiar with. I’m trusting the process. I get really excited though wen I get a God point that shesares
I wanted to try and give you a short answer to your questions. God made a covenant with Abram/Abraham that he would make his father of many nations (descendants - God’s people - Israelites. So, the covenant, as a sign that every male son would be circumcised by the father with no exceptions. Any uncircumcised male, who has not be circumcised in the flesh would be cut off from his people (he has broken my covenant). God selected Moses to rescue the circumcised people of God from the uncircumcised Egyptians. Moses was to be the lawgiver for Israel but for some reason was blurring the distinction in his own family. So the giver of the law to be a lawbreaker would be blatantly hypocritical. And, this sin made him unfit to be a spiritual leader. God was about to kill Moses, but Moses lived because God allowed for repentance and forgiveness. God wasn’t going to kill his sons it was Moses. That’s why his wife circumcised their sons, which wasn’t the place of the wife to do. Moral of the story is, we will fail God from time to time, but He loves us and gives us every opportunity to repent/forgive. We are to be testimony to others to know HIM through our walk with HIM. I hope this helps….
I have been a Christian for over 40 years, and God, through His Spirit, is still revealing new insights to be every time I read Scripture. It’s part of His SANCTIFICATION process as we are transformed. The beauty of a Bible Study Group is that God designed us each uniquely, and the “God Shot” insights of one person may different from another. In this context, I always appreciate it when Tara has insights I either missed, or God had not revealed to me. Such revelations draw me in to study more, and dig deeper. My point, keep reading God’s Word and He reveal things you never knew!
I think that you are looking at this with a New Testament perspective. Remember this was before Jesus and circumcision was part of God’s covenant to show that Jews were God’s people and set apart from the world. Moses had not circumcised his son, he had not done what Abraham had done with his entire household. Plus he was sending his son into a hostile environment and he needed to demonstrate his son was part of God’s chosen people. And for the second time in Moses’ life, a woman, in this case his wife, Zipporah, saved him and his son.
Was just thinking also - would Moses have been circumcised? He was put in the basket at 3 months and they performed circumcision at 8 days. So I think he would have been and been identified as a Hebrew as an infant, yet Pharaoh’s daughter kept him and raised him and he was accepted by them and raised and trained, a skilled fighter (with the shepherds at the well), as a prince. And had not circumcised his son. And then his wife does. I think this says a lot about her. She does it, and obeys, but is also showing her emotion of being frustrated by having to do this to her son.
I think of livestock as domesticated animals like cows, oxen, and sheep. I believe animals is a reference to all the other animals like birds, monkeys, etc.
In the show's notes, you will find a link to the meanings of the plagues... at the BOTTOM of that article, there is a related article (4th bullet point down) to answer your specific question. I wanted to know that, too!
My question also… killed livestock, then animals, but the hail plague came with the instruction to bring in all of the livestock, or they’d all be killed… but they had already all died a couple of plagues before that. This one I’ve never understood.
The 2nd plague was frogs. The magicians could produces more frogs. However, the 3rd plague was gnats. They magicians probably could not produce more gnats. Probably because all the frogs ate all the gnats 🐸😂
Hi sorry if I missed it but looking for the link noted would be added in the comments- about the plagues linked to the Egyptian gods- this was new to me too & i’d like to read more about it Thanks! :)

All of the plagues (frogs, gnats, etc.) were specific false gods of Egypt … not just random plagues. You can read about this in a good study Bible or commentary.
Too many plagues to count. God sends those plagues to convince Pharaoh to let His people go. However, God is also who hardens Pharaoh's heart multiple times, to make sure everyone knows who God is. God wants us all to really know Him. Israelites have covenant with God not the Egyptians. Thank God for sending Jesus for us today, to know God!!
I dont get this. GOD hardened Pharoah's heart... not pharaoh but you mentioned that Pharaoh hardened his own heart. Apparently (?) Pharoah didn't have the option to comply. 🤔
Hiiii!! I hope this helps.. “As we see after each of the first five plagues, Pharaoh's heart “became hard” or he “hardened his own heart.” Then in plagues 6-10, we see this pattern change; four of the last five times, the author of Exodus-likely Moses-writes that God hardened Pharaoh's heart…Looking at it in black and white, without context, you may think God is engineering this evil in Pharaoh by hardening his heart; instead, he’s repurposing what’s already there. If you’ve also read Genesis, which immediately precedes Exodus, you might remember Joseph’s quote in chapter 50 verse 20 about God taking what humanity meant for evil and using it for good. A similar situation is taking place here.”
That’s a new one for me! All the plagues were against all of the Egyptian’s gods! God really gives deep meaning to everything!
It’s so crazy bc as I started reading about this I was thinking I wonder if each one has a meaning and then she said that!!!!! I was like wow ! God really does answer questions when ur reading
Same with me, learn something new everyday...
"As the LORD had said." God is a promise keeper.
What a terrible thing to go through life with a hardened heart. Thank you Lord for making a way so that man can be set free from this curse🙌🏼

Also, compare these plagues to the plagues in Revelation...
Please explain. Thank you.
@@liap1293 read the book of Revelation and compare the plagues.
Can someone explain what livestock is still alive for hail plague if they all died during the livestock plague?
You are a God to unbelievers? I never heard that one before. 🤔 And we are our own prophet? Not so sure I'd be bold enough to say that either.
I hope I didn't end up confusing you 😅
@@toyosibiyi No way. You are misinterpreting that, totally!
@@MyLivingJournal all right, thank you for your contribution 🙏🏽

How was God speaking to Pharaoh. As a voice from heaven?
God told Moses what to say to Pharaoh verse 9:13
One of the plaques kills all the livestock but subsequent plaques mention affliction to animals. Is there a distinction between livestock and animals?
My version says beasts so any animal not livestock like dogs, cats, lizards, rodents, birds etc. ? Just my thoughts.

Why does God harden Pharaoh’s heart even before Moses/Aaron make their requests? Why is the situation set up for failure even before it unfolds?
Where is the "description box" Tara-Leigh refers to??
Directly under the video title, it says …more click that and you will see the links.
The 2nd plague was frogs. The magicians could produces more frogs. However, the 3rd plague was gnats. They magicians probably could not produce more gnats. Probably because all the frogs ate all the gnats 🐸😂
Why did God harden pharaohs heart if HE WANTED his people free.
What's the disclaimer for?
Hi sorry if I missed it but looking for the link noted would be added in the comments- about the plagues linked to the Egyptian gods- this was new to me too & i’d like to read more about it

Why does God harden Pharoahs heart?
I am wondering why in the description there is a section called "not a potato," but when I click on it it takes me to items to purchase. Is this right? I feel like I must have missed something
