  • Watch our overview video on Exodus 19-40, which breaks down the literary design of the book and its flow of thought. In Exodus, God invites the Israelites into a covenant and comes to live among them in the Tabernacle, but Israel rebels and ruins the relationship.

My only thing is sneaking in woke terms like, "social justice". There is no such thing. It's a made up construct to accommodate the ridiculous nonsense going on in the secular world. Here's the true definition of justice:
      JUST'ICE, n. [L. justitia, from justus, just.]
      1. The virtue which consists in giving to every one what is his due; practical conformity to the laws and to principles of rectitude in the dealings of men with each other; honesty; integrity in commerce or mutual intercourse. Justice is distributive or commutative. Distributive justice belongs to magistrates or rulers, and consists in distributing to every man that right or equity which the laws and the principles of equity require; or in deciding controversies according to the laws and to principles of equity. Commutative justice consists in fair dealing in trade and mutual intercourse between man and man.
      2. Impartiality; equal distribution of right in expressing opinions; fair representation of facts respecting merit or demerit. In criticisms, narrations, history or discourse, it is a duty to do justice to every man, whether friend or foe.
      3. Equity; agreeableness to right; as, he proved the justice of his claim. This should, in strictness, be justness.
      4. Vindictive retribution; merited punishment. Sooner or later, justice overtakes the criminal.
      5. Right; application of equity. His arm will do him justice.
      6. [Low L. justiciarius.] A person commissioned to hold courts, or to try and decide controversies and administer justice to individuals; as the Chief Justice of the king's bench, or of the common pleas, in England; the Chief Justice of the supreme court in the United States, &c. and justices of the peace.
JUST'ICE, v.t. To administer justice. [Little used.]

Remember reading the lineage verses? X the son of x who is the son of x who is the son of x who is the son of x 😂😂 to use TV Series as an analogy, it's what we call a filler episode, you get some background and world building but the main plot doesn't progress but it's still important to the show as a whole.

I NEVER full understood why so many chapters of the Bible, even outside of Exodus, had so much time spent on the details of the Tabernacle. I understood it represented God's presence, but I have to say, I always found the descriptions hard to visualize. So it made the chapters difficult to understand, if not downright boring. But when you break it down and say "The Tabernacle is like a portable Eden"!? NOW I get it. One line made these chapters suddenly more relevant to me. It suddenly clicked. Thank you BibleProject! God forgive me for belittling these chapters before but thank You for brining me to this video so I could finally understand!

Hm... so Abigail, since you're clearly qualified to question God's judgment over sin, please explain this: it's a big mood when God holds his people accountable for wickedness, but it's perfectly normal (commendable even) for women to kill their innocent babies in the womb. Let me try and see your point: God doesn't have a right to take life that he gave (and in the case of the Israelites, fought to preserve through the miraculous exodus from an oppressive slave- driven empire), yet women today take life from the innocent everyday without any question or remorse, as if God isn't watching, as if God takes their life lightly. The fact that you're alive today isn't because you're any good or worth preserving, but because of God's nature because he alone is good, and his will for your life was not for it to be cut short. I guess you know the value of your own life better then God, but remember, someone else gave it to you in spite of your unworthiness to receive it, so I'd think twice before I call God's judgment a "mood". I'd revere it if I were you. God bless you and help you repent from your blasphemy.

And I understand that you can't put everything in it, but I would have thought that mentioning that God himself wrote the ten commandments with his finger in the stone tablet, would be more important. Because the first time when Moses went up to Him, that's how it happened, and only later ,the commandments had to be rewritten.
    Ex 31:18
"And he gave unto Moses, when he had made an end of communing with him upon mount Sinai, two tables of testimony, tables of stone, written with the finger of God."

this is such a sad, uplifting, moving, awesome, lovely book in the bible. the jews of the time were angry at God becuase they were not getting what they wanted, which i know is alot of us today, we all at times feel the same way, which is the first sad part of this book, the 2nd part is when moses is unable to enter, its one of those books i can read for a long long time and still find enjoyment.

Good summary! I think another incredible aspect of Exodus is the fact that you go through Deja Vu with some scriptures in this book. God gives instructions to Moses, then Moses turns around and fulfills them as the Lord told him. It was an awesome demonstration of a servant listening to God for his glory.

I'm so grateful for these story telling visuals. Even after going to Bible College at Multnomah I LOVE how powerful the voice over exposition is with the drawings is. I see so much of Jesus's salvation and forgiveness in these visuals how strong the foreshadowing is to pointing to Jesus.

I'm sure you hear this all the time and what's one more person reiterating it but wow the artwork/storyboarding/narration is doing God's work, just amazing. I've relatively grown up hearing the OT stories and have read through Genesis and Exodus a few times during all my attempts to read through the Bible but I'm finding I still confuse the sequence of events (perhaps also bc I'm finally picking the Bible back up after a few decades of forgoing reading through 😅). Anyway, ty for piecing together the art and narration in a way that makes it helpful to remember but also to understand the "landscape"/timeline of the Bible. It is a dense Word and not the easiest to keep a handle on how everything is shaking out in relation to everything that's happened before/during/after the particular section I'm currently reading (in this instance, in Exodus) but these videos really help me and my lack of mental RAM for the continuously eventful exchange btw God and His people.

Its amazing how God still love us even if we are just selfish, people today carry on the same way they did in the Bible, God still give mercy and grace 🙏, coronavirus is a huge problem right now and people are selfish from the most powerful lead to the most poorest person on the street. Its amazing how the lessons of yesterday still relate today. God is the key to freedom!!!

Tony Choza, God tests Moses because we've all been given the gift of free will. Even though God knows what we will do, we still have the free will to do so, thus why we will be judged for our choices one day.
