My local Twin Liquor store just called to let me know they received a bottle of Cowboy this morning and since I was on the list they gave me a call, I'll be riding high in the saddle this evening with this bad boy! Garrison Brothers, love the product, love the distillery and the outdoor relaxation area in Hye, Texas!!
Garrison Brothers is my favorite bourbon. Great review. thought the last two Cowboy releases were excellent and can’t wait to try this one and share it with friends.
If I see this, I'll probably grab it, but it has received a lot more attention than previous releases, so it might sell out fast. I have a bottle of Garrison Brothers Balmorhea, and I love it. I'll pay good money for something that is both well made and unique.
I don't think that is because the whiskey itself is bad. I think it is because the style of whiskey i so different from premium KY bourbon that many people find it off putting.
Love your content and the story behind your channel. Haven't gotten in to Texas whiskey yet. At this price point, this won't be my introduction to it. Keep up the great work!
I tried this at a share the other day. I didn’t like it at all and was easily the “hottest” bourbon I’ve ever tried. It made my 13th colony 138 proof bourbon feel like apple juice in comparison
Interesting. The flavors in this whiskey are so big that I barely noticed the proof, but I get that it may not be for everyone. 13th Colony is column still and Garrison Bros is pot still, so they are very different.
I had a taste of their haz proof SiB from a couple years ago, a special store release. I loved that one but don’t recall that cost being anywhere close to this. Perhaps that one wasn’t quite haz but it was close.
I'm not a fan in general of texas whiskey. There's a common trait that they all seem to have which I believe is from the intense heat. I've tried Balmorhea and was extremely disappointed. Also tried some of their single barrel picks and they all come across as very tight and one dimensional in flavor. I'd like to try this before buying if possible. Cheers.
That sucks they put the courts on ya.... I like your slightly larger "Wee Glens" better than the real thing. They are some of my favorite glasses specifically for nosing. Been meaning to pick up one or two of those glass carriers,... looks like they would fit perfect in a bottle tote.
Our bottle bags have plenty of space for the appropriate number of bottles plus one each of the carrier sizes. That is how I roll when I am traveling with bottles.
Garrison Brothers is definitely an expensive bottle. They all have a similar flavor undertone. Maybe this year I will finally pull the trigger on the Cowboy. Love your shows philosophy.
Here’s the thing with Garrison; you can’t compare it to KY or MGP. It’s such a weird and unique brand. It’s a love it or hate it profile. The prices suck, but you’re really paying something you can’t find anywhere else.
Love some TX whiskies, but Garrison Bros have always been way too proud of their stuff for my budget. I'm sure they have their reasons for charging what they do, but when your budget offering starts at the top of my price range,.. your product line as a whole is simply not for me. No hate though, as long as other people are paying the price, more power to them.
If you have not tried Garrison, I recommend you do so before you drop that amount of cash. People who like it love it, but some people just can't get on board with the intense flavors compared to KY.
@BourbonRealTalk thanks. Know a few folks in TX, one who you were realtor for, that may have access to try. Gonna give that a whirl before dropping the cashola. I enjoy high proofers like Coy Hill and JD SBBP and some 124 proof Lone Elm is as close that I have gotten to Texas whiskey (was not a fan of Balcone's). Appreciate the suggestion.
Thanks for another wonderful review. I will admit that this is an expensive bottle, but for great juice I have purchased a few bottles at this price point. Thanks again and cheers 🥃
@@BourbonRealTalk Seems annual-ish, since I think there's 2020, 2022, and 2023 releases...so, sort of? I have the 2023 and would be happy to share if you ever find yourself in the Austin area. And of course, thanks for continuing to produce great content with a great purpose!
I think TX whiskey is better in flavor and price. Just my opinion, and even though I have only had the Garrison Brothers boot flask and honey dew whiskey's I don't think they could change my mind due to the cost of it. Just not worth it in my opinion.
We discuss it some in the video, but their production costs are much higher than any of the legacy distilleries. Despite that, there is definitely a bit of "premium pricing" going on here beyond just their cost plus normal margin.
Garrison brothers small batch is one of the worst bottles I have ever purchased in my opinion. It tasted so bad that I thought something had to be wrong with it emailed the distillery and basically they told me thanks for the information. Sorry about your luck so from that point on, I have never purchased a garrison Brothers product again.
It is very different, which is why I wanted to do this video. I didn't want some KY bourbon lover to get offered an "allocated" bottle of Cowboy and buy it thinking they would love it because of the price.
Living in Texas and trying most of the locally made offerings, Garrison brothers is simply not worth the price/hype in my opinion. Mediocre tasting bourbon with an egregious price tag.
Getting this for my husband for Christmas. Just wanted to double check that it was decent. Thanks for the review!
As long as he doesn't freak out about the price, he will be blown away by the whiskey!

It is a lovely place to visit, if it isn't too hot!
I have a bottle of their 2023 laguna madre release, aged 8 years and I love it
Glad to hear it. It is an interesting pour.
I'm super intrigued by the Garrison brothers line.
Garrison Brothers is my favorite bourbon. Great review. thought the last two Cowboy releases were excellent and can’t wait to try this one and share it with friends.
I think this year is an excellent example. You will love it.
Have a buddy who recently picked up a bottle at the distillery and we're doing a bottle share in a couple weeks. Look forward to trying this one.
I hope you love it. Cheers!
My son is in Texas and shares my love of Bourbon. I will have to share this video with him!
Thank you for helping to get the word out about the podcast.
I respect a person who takes the time to respond to this many comments
Also, awesome channel
I appreciate that. Thank you for your support! Cheers!
Just picked up a bottle for $169. Haven’t tried it yet, excited to try it.
Let me know what you think!
Great job on the video, never knew about Haz Mat Bourbons
They do not happen often, so collectors get pretty excited about them.
If I see this, I'll probably grab it, but it has received a lot more attention than previous releases, so it might sell out fast. I have a bottle of Garrison Brothers Balmorhea, and I love it. I'll pay good money for something that is both well made and unique.
GB is definitely well made and unique.
Thanks for another great vid
Glad you enjoyed it
Great review. Had thier small batch and honey dew. Well put together products and packaging.
They have come a long way and done a lot to educate the world about TX whiskey.
I haven’t heard reliably good reviews on Garrison in general and have kept them off my to buy list for this reason.
I don't think that is because the whiskey itself is bad. I think it is because the style of whiskey i so different from premium KY bourbon that many people find it off putting.
@@BourbonRealTalk - solid point. Haven’t really waded into Texas bourbon at all yet.
Gonna be looking for this one to try!
It is solid if you like pot still bourbon.

Look for some Ironroot. It is an excellent example at a fair price.
Picked up the 2022 release at a secondary shop, told them I would MSRP since it was collecting dust, done deal, going to be my new year’s bottle
If you don't A.S.K. you do not G.E.T. Good pickup!
So... 250 🦌?
Very cool; would love to try this one!
Hopefully you have a friend with a big budget that can give you a sip.
Been looking for a Hazmat bottle since the Coy Hill release...but I"m not paying those prices. Cheers!
It is expensive.
I've been tempted to grab a bottle of Guadalupe or Balmorrhea but the price is too high. I would love to try it out first and then decide.
I would look for a sample in a club or a pour in a bar.
Great review!
Glad you enjoyed it
I really like Texas whiskey and will be looking for a bottle of the Cowboy.
Good luck hunting!

Thanks for watching, and good luck on the hunt.

I think it is the pot still distillation combined with the different aging environment.
@@BourbonRealTalk That's a great point on the pot still component.
I’m not a fan of their small batch bourbon, but I love all their other releases!

I tend to like their stuff, but agree that it’s a little high for what it is. Great video.

I don't think so.
I think I will try to buy it if I come across it.
Not sure how hard it will be to find, but if you like pot still bourbon you are going to love this one.
Texas whiskey is getting better.
I would have to agree! This is probably my favorite GB I have tried.
I can't vouch for all Texas whisky, but I love some of what comes out of Balcones Distilling, and the Musician from Still Austin is great too.
@@WhiskyForBeginners Balcones is an excellent example of TX pot still whiskey, and The Musician is an excellent example of TX column still whiskey.
Never had any Garrison Brothers:( not sure about that Texas funk?
Haznat should push this to be more popular
I think you are right.
Never had any Garrison
It is a different pour. It is expensive, so try a pour before you buy a bottle. People who like it...love it.
I buy every release of the Cowboy I can get.......yearly.
I find that when people like it...they LOVE it!
@BourbonRealTalk I actually love the taste profile of Texas Bourbon/Whiskey and I support Local as a Native Texan.
Randy, what is the general flavor difference between pot still and column still?

Personally I would have a really hard time spending that on any bottle. Sounds like a really good pour though.
