    I’m a commercial HVAC technician and I use my surge ALL the time.
    My brother in law got married this past summer and for a wedding gift, I bought a black oxide wave + and had it engraved with their names and the date of the wedding plus a cheesy cute little quote.
    My daughter will be getting her license in a few weeks and I’ll be keeping my old surge in her glove box.
    I love Leatherman and will use them for the rest of my life

    Love my surge. I also love leathermans warranty program. I had broken the the pliers on my surge and sent it in, not only did they fix the pliers but they also changed out other parts that had wear and tear on them... leatherman for life!

    I just bought a Letherman Surge for $10.00 at a flee market on Saturday. It has a broken can opener, which I will replace. I removed any rust and now I have it soaking in a little glass jar filled with Liquid WD40.
    After that I will clean it off, then work the whole thing with some White Lightning Easy Lube Bicycle Chain Lubricant. Thanx for the video my Brother 👍 ⚔️ ✝️ 🇺🇲

    I've heard that the "Ruler" on the Free P4 is for measuring the heads of fasteners so that you know what size wrench or socket to grab. If I'm working one something with nuts or bolts, I always have my wrenches and sockets with me, and it is always faster to just try a socket, go "hmm, too tight" and then go for the next size up.
    The Surge was my first Leatherman and I got it in large part for the T-Shank adapter. Yeah it's big, but where I feel like other multitools are geared towards just getting you out of a pickle, the Surge feels capable enough to tackle actual work. I also love that you can detach the diamond file and sharpen the knife blade, all in one tool.

    “And there a few things that makes this the case” and then proceeds to pick up the case. I love unintentional humor and the video is great too. I am getting a Surge soon so I am living vicariously through the videos on TH-cam learning about it

    I've been rocking the st 300 since I traded in my 200. I've been considering getting this and making it my new edc for work, but old habits die hard. Your review made it easier for me to let go of the past.

  • @fredriklagerberg2935
    @fredriklagerberg2935 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    The surge has been my edc for a few months now and it has no contender according to me. I've gone through alot of multi-tools and different brands aswell, but the surge is the only multi-tool I've hade that actually works as a substitute for other tools. I don't even know where I keep my regular pliers any more, there's simply no reason to have them and I never go looking for a screw-driver anymore.
    So thanks, Tyler, for your review. I share your opinions and I think you did an excellent video!

    One thing you said that resonated with me was you said "I decided I didn't wanna carry two of these or three of these at a time" i've been carrying both the leatherman crunch and the victorinox spirit x together. They're a great team but i just got my surge last night to replace both so im only carrying one multi tool at a time on my belt. I'm a service plumber. the mult tool gets used most by me out of any tool.

    i had just bought a surge as my first ever multitool and something that i wanted to edc for when I'm out fishing and really anything to have for years to come. i was kinda tired of in my past job where things were broken and i coulda fixed it had i got the right tools. super glad i picked up the surge as it came in a couple days ago. it is heavy but I'm sure after a certain amount of time, it'll almost be weightless to me. i am also into outdoor tasks and i would love to just have the one thing for all the things i would need. I'm not much a handyman but i am not shy away from learning but heavy duty means it'll last a while at least to me. very happy i picked it up as my first. if you are looking at this video and reading in the comments, curious if the surge is good for you, depending on what you wanna use it for, if you are like me or more than me (in handiness), i recommend you getting this tool.

    • @TylerStartz
      @TylerStartz  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I second this for sure. The weight really isn't a big deal at all when it's on your belt. It's noticable in your pocket however. But for what you're getting with it, it's beyond worth it to me. Thanks for watching!

    The scissors on the Surge are no joke. I find myself using the scissors way more than I ever thought I would. They are great for cutting through thick zip ties that are hard to get at with the knife, and also safer.

    • @renorailfanning5465
      @renorailfanning5465 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The scissors are the reason I chose the Surge, as opposed to the Wave, Charge or Signal. I'm a day hiker and the Surge works for me.

      Thank you! I like my P4 a whole lot. The built in clip was a huge selling point for me, but I just couldn't get past the few nitpicky things I mentioned in the video. It's definitely in the rotation though!

    Nice stash lol, I used the wave daily till I lost it at the gun range (dropped in the snow somewhere) . Now I use the surge, and its a BEAST. I just ordered a clip on sheath for it and the bit kit, bc to keep that on my belt all day is a little too much on the heavy side, this way I can take it on and off as I need it. ALSO I would take a angle grinder with a cut off wheel and even up the broken un even pliers on your wave.

    Ruler is good for small bore measure, fasteners, nuts & bolts, etc. Not a measuring device as in a meter stick. But too thin for a screw driver. The awl is also too thin.
    Most multitools are not really heavy duty. The Surge, and the Victorinox SwissTools--one 22 years in use. My old Leatherman SuperTool is 22 years old, too.
    I have a Surge kit with multiple saws, including long T-shanks which cannot fit into the closed tool--but who care. And the adapter-extender allows normal commercial bits. Great awl. My ultimate compact bushcraft kit.
    I agree about the LM Surge!

    These little rulers are great as gauges for medium and small fasteners, bolts, etc. Never intend to be used for more than that. But, they should make that very clear. And they don't. Great for amateur home carpentry. A prro probably has a depth gauge.
    I have about 45 multitools. Surge and SwissTool Spirit are my best. A little disappointed in the Free P4 awl.
    Thanks for the review!

    This is the best multitool in existence, which isn't saying a lot because it's also a piece of shit.. The tolerances are just horrible, out of the box every edge and corner is so sharp that the tool is useless until you've found the time to file everything down, the little spring for the bit holder gets damaged if you look at it the wrong way, it uses security torx for no reason, the awl and flat drivers clump, the pocket clip doesn't actually fit and flaps around in the breeze and snaps like a piece of liquorice if you bend it or drop the tool, and when you move the clip from side to side it moves the little covers on the tool, they shouldn't even be able to move - Leatherman better have a GREAT warranty on this piece of garbage, because I can't get through a day without it - but man it's not that well made.. 🤮
