To see Bates evolve over 6 games was pretty interesting. He went from being inefficient and taking bad shots to taking what was given and improving his selection. He did exactly what the coaches asked him to do.

IT was proven that his wingspan was incorrect. HE measures at 6'9 1/4 height and 6'10 1/2 armspan... He had a "negative winspan" when he was measured as a 16 year old. His body isnt even done growing NOW; it definitely had a lot of growth since he was 16

His wing span isn't a problem for me because one thing that I rarely hear ppl bring up is that for a 6'9 guy, he has a quick release. Soon as he catches the ball, It's going up quick. And he moves without the ball fairly well. I've watched him from the first game till last and every game he's showed something different. His last game he showed the ability to make plays for other's. All the Cavs need is a scoring threat from the wing and it seems like that

But when I first looked him up I saw that too, that he had a wingspan less than his height. But those other things you said were right, twig and not super athletic. Please Stop making Emoni bates - Kobe Bryant, LeBron James or even KD while He is a 17-year-old phenomenal kid Basketball athlete who Re-classed & Is playing his first college season at 17 years old. which means he would of still been playing the game he loves in high school right now this season Probably scoring 40- 60 -100 points a game on that level, But chose a different road and wanted to compete against the best on the collegiate level of play! Remember At 17 years old Kobe Bryant, LeBron James & even KD We’re all still in high school and not playing on a college level against Fully developed college athletes or even NBA Fully developed grown men ! Emoni Bates Is still growing and developing at the age of 17 & I know without a shadow of doubt that all the ridicule that’s coming from Social media, sports news and the press is only going to make him push harder and become a stronger individual in life and even more of a phenomenal students athlete & student of the game He loves ! Every athlete has a different journey and makes the choices they need to make along that journey ! Kobe Bryant was 18 his rookie year LeBron James 19 or even KD was 19 years old ! All I’m saying is let this 17 year-old kid Athlete blossom and grow as a already a phenomenal player ! And you’ll Clearly see that the proof is in the hard work and relentless nonstop, Keep pushing attitude and Beast mode mentality Day in and day out on The national collegiate stage and behind closed doors ! This kid is Mentally prepared for whatever social media, sports news and the press has next to throw at him! He is already blossoming and growing & as a player and once fully developed will continue to be killing on a whole Nother level ! Killer instinct don’t just die!

Nice piece here. But I'm wondering if you (or anybody else) remember Kevis Willis. He was a 7-foot center for the Atlanta Hawks back in the days of Dominque Wilkins. He was a shot blocking aggressive defensive player who had arms that looked shorter than Kevin Hart's. His only other claim to fame was biting Danny Ainge in a bench clearing fight. Remember that? Well, I expected Bates arms' length to look strange like a T-Rex! But this dude looks pretty normal! He was one of 5 or 6 young players on that Cavs team who looked like he could be strong bench player who can make an impact as a role player for any NBA team and could definitely help the Cleveland team move into one of the top 3 or 4 top teams in the East. Vertical jump can actually improve. The thing about vertical jump is how much your body can absorb upon landing, not so much strength to list off. That comes with building muscle and a stronger base.

People and coaches criticizing WINGSPAN for a guy who has a Steph Curry-like release and range and is 6'9'' are STOOOPID. Period. For college to NBA transitions EVERYONE seems to forget about the god MJ. Bates ceiling is as high as HE wants it to be. These GMs need to do more MENTALITY RESEARCH and less hyper-critical, myopic physical data gathering. Anyone shooting like him at 6'9'' has the mission critical tools right now to be excel in the NBA. The only real questions are their MENTALITY- how much do they want to excel, are they willing to work. From all reports Bates is that guy mentally- staying after practice, tuning in to the coaches in game, showing development from game to game.
