We extract pure caffeine from caffeine pills in a unique process that uses only water as a solvent. as always please don't try this at home Discord: / discord Lab Donations - gofund.me/713e...
Nice to see someone realize that this doesn't need to be a complicated process involving multiple exotic solvents. I remember figuring out a cold water extraction for pills containing codeine when I was in high school. If that extraction wasn't online prior to 1996 I might have been the first to upload it, lol.
Yeah I'm pretty surprised that I've never seen anyone use water before. I'll admit it's not the best solvent for this but the last sublimation step pretty much clears out any impurities.
thanks for this video! I am a highschool student in AP chem, and im looking to try some amateur chemistry for myself. this video helped me connect the dots between what im learning (e.g. IMFs, polarity) and actual applied science. gl on your videomaking endeavors.
If you scrape off or wipe off the outer yellow coating with a damp paper towel before starting the process you can essentially eliminate having to do all the steps of removing the yellow dye. It’s much quicker too. Idk about your specific pills but the ones I’ve seen only have that dye on the outer coating of the pill, once it’s gone the water is clear/white when you dissolve the pills.
Fun fact about silicon dioxide in food If you ever made some drink that required you to dissolve some powder (e.g. those energy drinks you can find online), if you find something undissolved at the bottom of the container you mix it in, or it has a "rough" texture, thats because of the silicon dioxide. The best way to get rid of this problem is to let your drink settle for a few moments after mixing, and then transfer it to another container, excluding the last bit that was in the original container.
Good video. Now please make a video where you give yourself an epidural administration of medication at home with supplies purchased only from home depot.
I want to point out that lethal doses of caffeine have been reported at blood concentrations of 80 to 100 micrograms/ml, which can be reached with ingestion of approximately 10 grams or greater. Be very careful. The 29-year-old man, Tom Mansfield, was a personal trainer who had ordered a 100 gram (3.5 oz) bag of caffeine powder (the same kind of powder produced in this video) to use in supplement drinks. However, when measuring the powder on a scale, he made an error that resulted in him consuming a fatal dose of caffeine. He died.
Wow that's pretty amazing How much efficiency you think it's possible to extract caffeine from regular coffee using the same method(not considering the purity) Normal coffee has caffeine polyphenols and carbohydrates out of which caffeine and polyphenols dissolve in water. Sounds trash but is it possible?
Never tried it, but I don't think it would work all that well. Coffee has hundreds of chemicals in it so recrystallization may not work all that well. That being said it might work idk never tried it
I found caffeine capsules with rice flower as the only other ingredient (gelatin capsule of course but that literally doesn’t matter here) hope this helps anyone trying to do this
I take caffeine pills all the time it works way better than a f in cup of coffee and it's not even more caffeine than a cup of coffee It's just your body doesn't have to process a bunch of other stuff at the same time Good actually feel the caffeine working It's great for work If you feel tired take 200 mg caffeine till it's the same amount as a strong cup of coffee You will feel awake not like that coffee sorry that don't work for me I got ADHD I'm already hyper needs to be in concentrate form
Hi! I'm no chemistry expert but i have a suggestion: Since sublimation seems like such a good method for separating the caffeine from the impurities, could it be possible that performing the sublimation step right after the first recrystallization could reduce the loss of caffeine? Or wouldn't it be possible because of the high impurities content? Thanks for your answer and keep it up man! Your videos are great!
Great question. Yeah I think I tried doing the sublimation after the first recrystallization in a test run and the impurities made the caffeine in the dish turn brown and smokey. It might be fine though.
@@ChemicalDistractions don't quote me on this, but apparently the caffeine is fine and what burns off is the unwanted junk, further testing might be needed, Need to try it myself anyways, just need to get the stuff first.
bro if i got caps that got inside only caffeine and cellulose, i suppose i can just dissolve caffeine in water, take out cellulose then cool off the water or boil it?

Really great video from such a small Channel! If your videos stay this consistent I have no doubt you’ll be as big as any other chemistry channel
Really appreciate that man thanks.

Thanks, glad I could help. When I was in highschool chem TH-camrs never explained stuff like this so I'm glad that I can do it now.
Man's underrated beyond belief.
I never thought to breath in my caffeine in vapor form, thanks for the idea!
but I DID think to make a line of it on the table...

Very good at explanation I liked it very much when someone explain each thing like this
I love this channel, you explain chemistry in such an easy to understand way.

"legally, don't try this at home"
"anyways, with that out of the way, here's a step by step guide of what to do!"
Such a good experiment. Much more efficient on resources
Very funny but also learned something about chemistry!
Thanks glad to hear it!
I enjoy your humor.

Yeah I would cool the water to get it to crystallize out. Probably easier

Maybe you should not have the cord to the hotplate actually touching the heating plate, otherwise nice video.
Yeah didn't notice that lol I'll try not to do that in the future.
Binge watching XD
Coffee ☕
This shit does not degrade with heat?
Surprisingly it sublimates before it can get hot enough to decompose.
