I have this one on the way and will at least be starting it. I am 84 and started building ship models in 1972. My hands and eyes are still good (lucky for my age) so we will see how far I will get. I am building it for a friend who owns a ship model museum. I usually build my models from scratch as dioramas(HMS Victory) but this will be a stand alone model. I will build it Admiralty style but this time without dowels or copper bottom. No guns planned at time time but maybe I'll change my mind. Love your cat what is his/her name I have had many cats and dogs over my lifetime and loved them all but I am too old now to do right by them. Cheers. John.
This is a fascinating series of videos that certainly captured my personal interest! My great-great-great-great grandfather, James Leander Cathcart, was serving as a midshipman aboard the USF Confederacy when it was captured by the Royal Navy in 1781. He was then interred on the British Prison ships Good Hope and Jersey until escaping three years later. He returned to sea aboard the schooner Maria of Boston but his “adventure” was far from over. In 1785, the little merchant ship was captured, too, but this time by the so-called Barbary Pirates. Cathcart then spent the next eleven years as a slave under the rule of the Dey of Algiers. Great, etc. Grandpa did eventually gain his freedom and that of some of his equally unfortunate shipmates, then hurried back across the pond to Washington and demanded “something be done” about those nasty Mediterranean marauders. The rest is - literally - history. So, you can see why I would love to build this stunning model myself but could never even approach remotely the artistry demonstrated by Olha. Magnificent!
So liking the build I have a few model ships I haven’t had time to do anymore work on or even start so I like watching videos from those who like doing what I do
Encore un model en route😜 💪💪. Je ne vais plus dormir à tout regarder. Hâte voir le montage de la coque c'est la dessus que je pèche encore et de voir de bon montage me fait progresser. Merci encore de mettre à disposition ces vidéos. 😍
This is the sixth time I watched this video. The kit is now acclimated to Minnesota so I start the build. BTW, MERRY CHRISTMAS and a HAPPY NEW YEAR🎄✝...
Excellent as always! I wanted to share a “discovery”. I have found that the metal foil tape used in making stained glass to be very useful. It blackens well and the gum does not dissolve in the process. The material is great for barrel hoops, gun carriage wheel tires, etc. Thank you for your videos!
Thank you very much! Yes, I have copper from this type of foil. I like that it is sold in different widths and can be selected on a scale for example for copper plating. But it must be handled very carefully because it is easily wrinkled. And also for its use it is necessary to prepare ideally equal surface!
Impressive work. And it's the first time i see a woman have so much fun with this hobby. I build ships myself and it give me so much plesure. You can also use lego blocks for the bulkheads. They are perfect 90 degrees.
A very good start which reveals another magnificent ship. It can be seen that the laser parts are precise and well adjusted. It is a real pleasure to follow the construction of your ships.
Thank you! Yes, this kit is really well made but all the details are made of basswood and this is the only drawback. It's fine wood to fill the spaces but awful as a finishing material. Wood is cheap and the model also becomes cheap and very monochrome. Therefore, I will add contrast by adding precious woods and create volume by tinting...
@@OlhaBatchvarov набор для такой модели стоит немалых денег, но производитель видно пожадничал. Уверен, с Вашим опытом и сноровкой, конечный результат как всегда будет выше всяких похвал.

That's right! This is a style of model that was very popular in the Admiralty, so it is a historical style that is called Admiralty style (or the British prefer the Navy Board models). And not everyone will be able to find a place for such a scale model because with a bowsprit it will be more than 1.5 m. Although I plan to make a reconstruction and put a masts and rigging on her...
Hello. Great Videos. i watched a few of them and i am amazed by the detail and effort you put in your models. i startet one my self, but i lost interesst after building the hull... but now i get an itch to finish it. keep up your inspiring work. p.s. is this stand for the keel made custom by you for this ship?
I keep a jar of water behind the scenes and wash the brush in water every time after use. But really that from glue they spoil quickly and once a month I change them.
Olha Batchvarova, I think I have your secret figured out - you are totally organized, and when you are working on a part of the ship, you have a nice, un-cluttered workspace! I think I told you that I build flintlock long rifles and pistols from about 1740-1820 or so. And a few percussion ones up until about 1870. I have four workbenches in this big room (about 6.2 m x 7,5 m), and it is almost impossible to actually see the work surface on any of the workbenches! Right now, on one bench, I am making a new stock for a double barrel 10 ga. shotgun. On another, I am making knives, putting the handles on blades. On another, I am building a 1770 Lancaster long rifle, with a 1,74 m barrel, and on the last, I am building a 1740 German Jaeger (hunting) rifle. AND it is piled high with skins and furs as I am making a pair of Eskimo boots called "mukluks", There are also 4 male cats and my Service Dog, Sunny. She helps me get around, shopping, things like that. Not doing too well in the mobility - Vietnam finally caught up with me. So, Miss Batchvarova, would you like to come visit and organize my workroom? You do exquisite work, very detailed in every way. this ship, by the way, a 1778 USS Confederacy, is huge, meaning that there are even MORE details to be shown, yet you just go calmly, doing one task at a time. Each one gets your total attention, something I am unable to do. I could teach you a few things to help you out, too. Forgive the long note - old man just rambling along.
Wow - your workshop is twice as big as mine))) And most importantly - fluffy assistants. I also have a cat in my homeland and a horse - but my animals stayed with my mother because my husband is categorically against animals and it's sad...
@@OlhaBatchvarov I have always been an animal lover. My working career was as a wetlands and wildlife biologist - from northern Virginia to southern Argentina, many points in between.
Miss Batchvarov, watching this again - so much to learn! Why do you paint the bulkheads and "keel" black? Is this part visible when the ship is finished? And I want to congratulate you on (1) making sure everything is square, and (2) scraping off the excess glue. What other parts of the interior are painted? I can see staining or varnishing the decks - will you paint other interior portions? I did acquire another dog. My Service Dog, Sunny Girl, is getting old (like me!), so I have gotten a red Standard Poodle, Teddy, to train as her replacement. Teddy, at 8 months, is much taller than Sunny, and has all the energy of a classroom filled with 6 year olds!
@@OlhaBatchvarov I see…on the original ship, this compartment served as what? Or is it just a peculiarity of the model to see a little bit of the interior…?

wow, new to your web-sight, must ask how many ship models do you have on-going ie building.
I am currently working on 4 models of varying difficulty and one of them from scratch...

This stand is made of a piece of board - I just glued a few pieces of wood to keep the keel in a vertical position...
I notice you apply your glue with a brush. How do you clean your brush afterward? Or do you throw it away?
I keep a jar of water behind the scenes and wash the brush in water every time after use. But really that from glue they spoil quickly and once a month I change them.
You're not done with the Ragusa carrack yet, are you?
She is also being built in parallel in the process!
Cuántas horas le dedicas al Modelismo Naval? Comercializas los trabajos que haces??
Sí, vendo modelos confeccionados. Trabajo en el taller todo el tiempo entre limpiar la casa y cocinar)))
How long do you let it cure before moving to the next rib
+/- 12 hours.
One bulkhead in the morning and the next in the evening and so on ...
Why did you paint those rib things black then glue the black sides togehter si it ca not been seen,i am not a builder and wondered the reason
It's just to get a thin line that will make the glued frame visible that it consists of two parts...
Здорово, но хотелось бы увидеть, что стало с французским куттером.
Спасибо! Француз ждет пока я куплю для него древисину ... он у меня "породистЬІй" только из дорогих пород дерева строится)))
