    Splendid video! I absolutely love this tone of "you don't have to do anything if you don't want just do what ever suits for you" 😊 There is too much stuff in youtube rubbed against viewers' faces like "if you don't do this, you will fail in your life and ruin your loveones lives forever".

    The difference between monitors isn’t an issue if you use EL Zone… plus EL Zone shows values in stops of light which is far more handy and accurate when using lighting ratios.
    EL Zone is on atomos, small hd and some cameras and will be hitting a number of different monitors soon… Portkeyes has said they will be working into their OS.

      @@Vitaphone I shoot video podcasts in the Sony S-Cinetone picture profile in my studio rather than S-Log3 for quicker turnaround. Is EL Zone only available in log and if so will I be ok using the Atomos false colour on the two Ninja Vs I have for the two cameras or does EL Zone bring additional benefits?

    • @MockeryManor
      @MockeryManor หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@smallbizdigitalmedia you don’t want to use EL Zone in log, it will give incorrect exposure readings based on the log profile. You should be able to use any lut profile you desire on the Ninja V after you expose correctly, using either EL Zone or False Color. Like the OP stated, main advantage of EL Zone is that you can use the system on different monitors and cameras, and you’ll get the same readings, regardless of manufacturer. If you use False Color, it is calibrated specifically to the manufacturer, of which they use different metrics. FYI, you can upgrade the Ninja V OS to include EL Zone. A month ago, the fee was $80USD.

    Great video Sam. Tried false colors a couple of times, ended up spending a lot of time moving things here and there, which was great to learn but not exactly time efficient. Your video was didactic though so I shall revisit 👍

    Wondering why you showed a waveform monitor at 1:11 rand called it a histogram?
    I've used waveform for everything for 46 years, so I'm pretty stuck in my ways. Some of the youngsters on my sets rave about false color, and I just smile and nod. You do you, indeed, but for me, waveform is the accuracy I need, without having to decipher what a particular false color means on a particular monitor.

    Not that I'm expert in it, but you don't have to use it, but it's pretty incredible how perfectly exposed a person's face will be when you use it. If you are just reading a monitor without it, it seems like you never quite get that perfect glow of the skin like you do when using false color.

      @@BruceMarkos histogram is much better than the meter although it’s not as good as the wave form.
      Most cameras don’t have exposed tools outside of the meter or histogram. For the histogram I expose to the right slightly but also try to make sure most of my information is in the middle. I also monitor with a Log assist Function on the camera so I can see how my image would look in post

    Could we discuss a little about recording in prores raw and why is the footage so noisy ? Maybe some ways that we could denoise the footage or do the settings right ?

    I have not played with False Colour yet on my Ninja V. I'd like to try soon especially as I had problems using a Display LUT for vLOG and the exposure meters messing things up by compensating for the Display LUT and not exposing for the vLOG. Rouined an entire day filming the Flying Scotsman with this problem.😭😭
    Maybe False Colour will save the day?
    However I do have a problem with my Ninja V that I hope you may have an answer for. I just installed the latest Firmware 11.05 to my Ninja knowing that I can never go back to the old version.
    My problem now is that I can't record H.265. I can record ProRes, DNxHR and ProRes RAW. Never used ProRes RAW because my editing software is in a CODEC war with Blackmagic. Boo!
    May I ask if you've upgraded your Ninja V to version 11 and if you can record H.265?
