- Pioneering WTVT meteorologist Roy Leep recorded this video to be shared with schools back in late 1975. He explains the latest weather technology at the time: How WTVT’s radar worked, the GOES satellite receiving station, teletype and facsimile data, lightning detection, and more.
Roy also offers a tour of the ‘Pulse 13 News’ set, and even has some advice for young students interested in a career in meteorology.
FOX 13 Tampa Bay brings you the important videos like breaking news, Tampa Bay weather, and local stories. But also plenty of fun stuff, like #WeLiveHere tips, the best of our archives, and all those 'only-in-Florida' stories.

"My love and passion as far as this life is concerned, as far as this world is concerned, is the weather."

Roy Leep died June 1, 2021. R.I.P., Roy. You will be missed 😥😥😥
Two years after I was born. My parents watched 13 when I was growing up. I remember Pulse Plus and Ernie Lee Breakfast Beat, Leslie Spencer I think all many years ago but I will say my parents were very loyal to only watching WTVT 13 news!! My dad said 13 was the best and he hated the news on 10 haha I was a kid so I was watching cartoons on 44 with Barbara Callahan and the 44 Kids Club haha. Long live WTVT 13!! Still Tampa Bays best!
Tell me, Chris, do you remember Salty Sol Fleischman? I remember him to a degree - I lived just over a year in Zephyrhills, in Pasco County, and years later spent one month in Dade City.
Wow, I was 5 months old
Some of the better weather gadgets even in todays world
How well I remember all this. We lived right up the street from Hugh Smith( 1963). Shock theater, yes! What channel was the Uncle Bruce show on?
Lots of memories!
A year before I was born.
Nice
