      More entrees are always met with great enthusiasm, especially for the die hard fans like myself who have been playing the franchise since the 80's or 90's. I like the variation between linear and the newer open world concept. But I do hope it all stays within the same console unlike what we were used to with 2 games per 3D console and handheld. It makes the players have a collection of consoles. I rather invest the money in new games. Especially since we are currently traveling around the world, having just the Switch with so many Zelda games on it to play is just amazing as it wouldn't be possible carrying all the original consoles along. Love doing a periodic marathon of all the franchises games. Enjoy finishing EOW, I personally really enjoyed the game, going for round 2!

      Why is that hard to understand? Remake original its the same. You can do the dungeons in any order, but metroidvania style you need special items to get to other area. Seems simple.

      @riderz_13_78 you're not the only person. I really didnt enjoy totk/botw due to lack of dungeons/tools(not dumb tools on a tablet)/unique massive bosses. I found the shrines annoying as heck and just not fun. Totk just feels like minecraft now anyways. People arent playing to play through the story. Theyre playing to see what they can build and what trickshots they can pull off so they can post on boobtube/craptok. None of which i will watch and all of which i have to click "do not recommend". Rant over

    • @_eggers

      Yeah the two styles aren’t incompatible. They already restrict you from climbing anything in the shrines. Instead of 100+ of those make 10 really big ones with a unique theme in each. It was forgivable in BotW but a direct sequel should have addressed that instead of repeating it.

    • @MatthewAvalos1
      @MatthewAvalos1 10 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      my take is that ALBW and EoW are essentially 2D Zelda games, with openness being on a sliding scale and EoW being more open than every other 2D Zelda.
      I think an alternative would be a truly 3D Zelda where you have an open world and some quests being linear and some being nonlinear, with gameplay progress being possible by doing some quests in any order but others being dependent on completion of a previous quest. That would be some place between BOTW, where you could do missions in any order or omit some of them, and something like OOT where you are absolutely required to beat dungeons and bosses before some other ones.

  • @shrimpbisque
    @shrimpbisque 10 วันที่ผ่านมา +63

    The top of my Zelda wishlist would be an Oracle of Ages/Seasons remake combo pack where both games are on the same cartridge, and the secret system has been reworked so that you can just claim the items from the other game as soon as you unlock them instead of having to punch in passwords.

    My idea:
    If the devs want to give us all the traversal tools at the beginning of an open world Zelda, that’s fine. But give us cool combat-oriented items, magic, weapons, that are themed to the boss and just make us feel that awesome upgrade feeling.

    • @nathanlaird
      @nathanlaird 9 วันที่ผ่านมา +4

      There is a lot of upgrade feeling in EoW, upgrading accessories, more powerful tier enemy echoes, various enemy mechanic upgrades (weather, noise, movement, elements), improved mobility echoes, link ability upgrades, Tri upgrades, tiered Smoothies, link combat ability unlocks, etc.

      @nathanlaird Yup, this was exactly my thought. It feels like an enhanced version of LBW's system, which also gives you access to all your tools from the beginning. Honestly, I think this way of handling progression is fine so long as they continue to do it well and it serves a purpose.

  • @CJ_IceCissalc
    @CJ_IceCissalc 10 วันที่ผ่านมา +24

    My first experience with The Legend of Zelda was with Ocarina of Time back on my N64; and that was a magical experience one that only a Zelda game can reach upon. I spent countless hours playing it over and over for two major reasons: didn’t had much games since purchasing other games was expensive but also because the world was extremely well developed and all. Then I went on and played all the other entries in the franchise which made Zelda my favorite franchise to date. I must admit that I was expecting more depth regarding the story of Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. I enjoy their massive Hyrule and it’s a particular experience to dive deep in each corner of that incarnation of Hyrule but I miss the impactful plot twist we had with the previous titles such as the revelation in OoT, or the dramatic events of Skyward Sword. That said I hope that we will still get those kind of projects for 3D Zelda games not only some remakes/remasters but brand new games in that format.
    That said, it’s great to see that the top-down Zelda games are still on the plans and still standing their ground, echoes of Wisdom is amazing and already one of my favorite already. And I must admit that the 2D Zelda games are in the majority my favorite style of Zelda games.

      The problem is that without a good story, the whole experience of saving Hyrule or Zelda is meaningless and the player doesnt care and hence gets bored after the exploration phase. For me my magical zelda game is wind waker because the story and characters come to life and I care about their world. I wsnt to go back to my favorite characters and spend time with them. In botw or totk, there is not a single character i really want to spend more time with. With the exception of the terribly underexplored Sidon, they are all really bland

The story is at the top for me as well regarding the Zelda games unfortunately they already said that for development they said that the story is not the most important.
      Not sure if it could help you look at botw and totk with a better look but what worked for me was consider Hyrule as a character. Like you mentioned regarding WW, you care for the characters there and feel good spending more time with them. One of the Zelda games that has strongly that approach to me is Majora’s Mask as well as Skyward Sword. But with botw and totk what worked for me to enjoy the games more and in such way was to consider Hyrule itself as a character and look deeper on what it had to offer and do spending more time within the realm was more enjoyable

Bring back key items , keep the large open worlds but limit some of the key sections behind necessary items, keep the side quests like shrines and koroks, classic style dungeons, bring back linear story lines, you could even keep the weapons system to be what it is currently or maybe a slightly dumbed down version. They could always make open world map that has some restrictions, like a dungeon that can't be entered until you get a key item from the story.
    BOTW was great for what it did but when TOTK just followed with same thing the open world "go where ever when ever you want" kind of gameplay got old fast. The world can be open, but the way you get through the story should be more restricted.

      Echoes of Wisdom does exactly this. Once you get past the first dungeon, the map opens up and you can go almost anywhere. But aside from the dungeons the story marks on your map, you can't enter any other major dungeons until the story says you can. You can scavenge the overworld for echoes, items and heart pieces and such though; but progression wise, you're only allowed to enter the dungeons the main quest currently has assigned.

    I think what they should do is create a linear experience with classic Zelda dungeons but make the world feel open in the sense that there is a lot to do (sidequests) and explore within sections of the game (I am talking about classic areas like Eldin Volcano or gerudo desert). You could then progress by completing the mainline quest in each of these areas, get a certain item and then move on. The issue with Breath and Totk was it got repetitive. With a world a third or a fourth of the size of these games you would still have a lot of exploration but you could create content that felt "special" thoroughly.

Handheld also when I’m at home (like on the coach or in bed). But actually, when commuting or travelling with a switch, it’s not the kind of game I want to play. I miss the smaller handheld titles in those scenarios. It’s why I always end up going back to older Pokemon games or even Links Awakening when on the move. There’s a place for both. My opinion on the “traditional” Zelda label:
      BotW is very traditional Zelda. It’s basically the first time a 3D Zelda nailed the open-world adventure that most of the old 2D Zelda games made popular. It’s arguably the most “traditional” since the first game (and this was the devs stated intent). Nearly all “open world” franchises today list Zelda as an influence; even GTA.
      The people who say it isn’t traditional and that it’s a huge departure apparently only played the 3D titles; which are very, very linear. I mean, Ocarina, MM, WW, Twilight, and SS are all fine games; but they are the untraditional ones, not the Switch titles.
      Zelda games (at least most of the 2D ones) have been “open-world” since ‘86. That’s the real tradition.

      @@prime-of-two3753 Yeah it's true that you can finish Minish Cap, Link's Awakening, Phantom Hourglass and Sprit Tracks in any order you want 😏
      I played almost all games (except zelda II and those of the CDI) but I can say that the first Zelda game is not representative of the traditional side of this saga, it was just a blank page on which the next games came to add new ideas to give it the identity it has today, with time new ideas were implemented in each new opus, ideas that have become dear to the hearts of the players.
      There is no problem with the fact that the game is linear, at least like that you feel that you are evolving in the story and that the difficulty getting more and more harder with time whereas with the strategy of BotW, as all the areas are accessible from the beginning, everything has been made easier for the players and the more you advance the more everything becomes very easy, the last bosses you can beat them with so much ease.
      All Zelda games (after the first and before A Link Between Worlds), whether 2D or 3D, are not open worlds, they are rather semi-open, in Hyrule you can almost go wherever you want but to advance in the scenario you must follow a certain order and have certain items to solve puzzles and that is what a real Zelda game is: Exploration + tough dungeons + puzzles + fights, not just exploration + combat like the first game was and BotW.

    OoT and MM are long overdue for a proper remake-not remaster-with photorealistic graphics or in a darker BotW style plus robust voiceacting (including silent and speaking options for Link) as well as expanded content such as new side-quests and items, but the focus should be on the enhancement of the core storytelling wherever possible with everything else in service of it; as for MM, weren’t there cut dungeons in the N64 version? 🤔 Why not resurrect those dungeon concepts and redesign them for the remakeover? The same can be said for WW if Nintendo were to do an eventual remakeover too.
    If the remakeovers of OoT and MM are wildly successful, Nintendo should make a brand-new sequel to OoT/MM and create a Hero of Time trilogy with the new game titled, The Legend of Zelda: The Lost Hero of Time; another good subtitle, albeit wordy, would be The Forgotten Hero of Time.
    The Lost Hero of Time could feature both Links at the end of OoT and MM who must work together to defeat Ganondorf who managed to get his hands on Majora’s Mask and don it, wreaking havoc on Hyrule once again and seemingly unstoppable for one hero… But perhaps two Heroes of Time can pull it off and seal the fissure between their timelines? 🤷🏻‍♀️

    I think Echos hit a pretty good balance of story progression and player freedom.
    After the first dungeon you can go just about anywhere on the map you want to go, but the story is locked until you complete the dungeons that are marked.
    Me personally I didn't go to far off of the path set for me. I did explore every section of every area that I saw when I was in the area, but when it looked like I would cross into a later game area I would hold off and save the area for later exploration when it was time to head in that direction. This was very unlike Tears where you could almost play the game in reverse order.
    I really wish they would atlest adopt that type of story philosophy for later TotK style game storytelling. Even BotW had a semi-linear progression if you didn't just run straight to Gannon. Also, the Echos showed you could have actual dungeons with free thought puzzle solving solutions because I have seen videos where people solve puzzles in totally different ways than I did. I hope that encourages more creative puzzles than "opening five locks to fight a boss."

    It doesn't even have to be linear. The very first Zelda game ever was open world. You could literally go wherever, but there were certain items and tasks to complete that if you didn't do that first, you're going to have a hellacious time running head-on into Dungeon 8. The same can be done now, but they've constricted their own creativity with this thinking that the only solution is to make breakable weapons and take away the dungeons altogether. I mean yeah they could absolutely go BOTW or TOTK style, but hide certain weapons, tools or armor inside the dungeons in a linear fashion that forces you to take on each dungeon by order. Or, make certain enemies impervious to certain weapons that you can't get until you've gone here and done this. There's plenty of ways to make a traditional dungeon-style Zelda with free open world; something is just missing and I don't know if it's the creativity or the passion, but if they don't do something big on the next one, they're going to Ubisoft themselves.

    My problem with BotW and TotK is that they don't feel like Zelda games at all to me. It's like it's trying to become it's own form of Dark Souls/Elden Ring.
    The first problem I have is that Link is almost unrecognizable to me with the lack of a traditional green tunic. It doesn't have to be exactly the same as the others but I don't how others feel but I personally feel Link just isn't Link without his iconic green tunic. It's like changing Mario's iconic red and blue overalls outfit to a polo shirt and khakis and taking away his iconic hat so instead of having his M emblem on his hat it would be on his shirt.
    Then there is the lack of traditional Zelda style dungeons. I know in BotW there was literally no real dungeons they just felt like a series a puzzles with a couple enemies in the way.
    I also don't like these games' durability system. I don't have a problem with weapon durability as long as it's done right but these games make your weapons feel like they're made of glass. So you spend so much of your time hoarding weapons and worrying about running out of them.
    Lastly I really don't like how the Master Sword has become this useless weak weapon that breaks just as easily as the other weapons you find on the ground or from other enemies. It's like a slap is the face to the Zelda series.
    So personally I don't very much like this new direction of Zelda games and I hope someday we can have at least one more traditional style Zelda game for us old school Zelda fans. I mean at the very least port Twilight Princess and Wind Waker to Switch!

      Breath of the Wild isn't the first game where you start in different clothing and have to earn your green tunic. You are free to unlock it and wear it as you please.
      The dungeons in Breath of the Wild where not much different to those in other games. Whether anyone wants to admit it or not, the four Divine Beasts were dungeons.
      Weapon durability is indeed a huge miss and just a not fun game mechanic. Having the Master Sword even being part of it is a huge mistake.
      There's nothing to suggest this is how Zelda games will be moving forward, though. Most new Zelda games introduce a new mechanics that disappears after one or two games, and Nintendo tends to listen to fan feedback.

      Link DOES talk in the games, though. He is clearly relating details about his journey to other characters in the game, details that can't be understood by a simple head nod. We don't hear/see/read what he is saying because we're intended to BE his character while we're playing. The movie doesn't need to present Link as mute in that way.

    Dungeon Items are critical for keeping things fresh as you're playing. New mechanics change the flavor of the dish, and it's good to keep seasoning it as you go.
    I'd be interested to see a more amorphous game structure applied to 4 *massive* dungeons that each has a dungeon item in it. You can go to them in any order and get a certain distance in. You collect an item that helps you get a that far... but that item can also help you get further in the other dungeons/make shortcuts. You'd go back and forth getting stronger and more capable each time you enter a dungeon.

    Don’t get me wrong, botw and ToTK were amazing games but I grew up on traditional linear Zelda games and in my opinion nothing beats those but I have a feeling that we will never get those again which really makes me sad because those older games are what put Zelda on the map and it feels like Nintendo is basically saying “fuck you” to all of their older fans who grew up with traditional Zelda games

    • @WindMageMaster
      @WindMageMaster 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I grew up with the “traditional” linear Zelda games, starting with OoT on the N64. And BotW/TotK was one of the best steps forward for me. I want the freedom to explore and craft my own journey… not be forced through a tunneled experience. Also, growing up with the series, a lot of the reactions I would see online was that the series was too linear and needed to be more open. Now I’m seeing the opposite.
      That being said, I think the style of ALBW & EoW is key for moving forward. Those are a mix of linear & non-linear… a good bridge for both types.

      @@WindMageMaster ehh I guess my biggest issue was that they abandoned traditional dungeons, I love the openness of the new games but the dungeons from botw and totk were hot garbage. If those would’ve been traditional dungeons those games would be perfect.

    • @WindMageMaster
      @WindMageMaster 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@brendontallman1460 I also prefer traditional dungeons, but I didn’t hate the Divine Beasts. Those coupled with the shrines throughout the game didn’t really make me feel that the dungeon element was missing- just that it was being presented in a different style. I also really enjoyed two of the TotK temples (Wind & Thunder) despite not being traditional.
      That being said, if your argument is simply wanting traditional dungeons back, then yeah, I actually agree. And I don’t think Nintendo disagrees either since EoW has traditional dungeons again. The part I was moreso talking about is having the world itself being highly restrictive and limiting exploration. That, I don’t think they should go back to.

    • @brendontallman1460
      @brendontallman1460 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@WindMageMaster ya I’m definitely glad the worlds are more open now but certain elements shouldn’t have left, for example collecting items in dungeons that help you progress through the game. That’s one aspect I love and I feel like they still could have made that work in these newer games but at the end of the day they took a big risk mixing up the formula and it paid off financially for them so they’re gonna do what makes them money at the end of the day. 🤷🏻‍♂️

    • @WindMageMaster
      @WindMageMaster 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@brendontallman1460 Yeah, but I viewed the new powers as replacements to items. I personally don’t really miss the item stuff quite as much. Unless they introduce a whole batch of crazy new gear… getting the hookshot or bombs or the bow for like the 12th time in a row is really underwhelming now. Even in EoW, getting Link’s sword, bow, and bombs in the dungeons was just… eh. Helpful, but not that exciting.
      And yeah, they still listen to critiques as they move forward. For example, Aonuma just said in a recent interview that they made changes to EoW due to TotK criticism. BotW was also a response to SS criticism. TP was from the outcry of TWW. It even goes as far back as AlttP returning to form after AoL. If you go through the history of releases, you’ll see the devs always take the criticisms into account when proceeding. Even with TotK, they returned to traditional bosses, upped the music involvement, added caves, made the dungeons more themed. Those were some critiques from BotW. They don’t listen to every last criticism, nor should they, but I don’t think you need to worry about them never listening to fans. Their track record shows they do, even more recently with EoW.

    I too have been playing Echos of wisdom. At first I wasn't so sure if I was going to like it. But after getting a little ways into the game, I started to understand the mechanics better. And actually it's not that bad of a game at all. I do like how it seems to have kind of the linear sense the original Zelda games. I have played breath of the wild and I have played tears of the Kingdom. I love the graphics in those two games in terms of full 3D effect. However they just don't have the same linear test as the original Zelda games. My favorite of the original ones would be ocarina of time. I definitely would love to see a remastered for that game. The things I want to see include the following
    1. Ditch the chibi style for the 2D games. It was a fun novelty, but the novelty has worn off. Plus it would be difficult to take the Oracle Games seriously if they have that style. Especially since in the original game, Veran commits some of the most heinous acts in the series for fun, and it will be difficult to take her seriously with a cutesy artstyle
    2. If the OG Ganondorf ever returns, let him keep his more likable and charismatic character quirks such as him being a genuinely honorable villain, and show a bit more of his sympathetic backstory that was established in Wind Waker. But at the same time, don’t turn him into Bowser.
    3. Do more than just remaster the games that are being remade. Do something to improve them, as well as change anything that contradicts the current lore.
    4. Make some of the final fights especially in the remakes more difficult (especially the Ganon fights)

    2D Zelda doesn't hit the same for me. For a new 3D Zelda I will always count down the hours, minutes and seconds until I can get my hands on that game at a midnight release - but for 2D games I'll often walk past them in an isle at a store months after release and be like "oh yeah, that's a thing, might check it out" haha.
