For any new 701 owners, the service manual recommends after shipping or major surgery to start the TT once with the tonearm locked down to let it cycle through and readjust the shut off lever.
In my opinion the best direct drive TT of it's time and one of the best sounding ever made. The motor is almost bullet proof and features a main shaft/bearing far superior to that found on most direct drive motors. The Dual 701 is also the only direct drive TT I'm aware of to sport a solid heavy metal plinth on a soft four point sprung suspension Most direct drive TTs are just screwed or nailed to resonant hollow bases of plastic or fibre board. The arm is a bit of a weakness due to it's loose fitting cartridge mount but the arm bearings are good. Replace the stock mat with a decent "audiophile" type mat and clamp and you have a killer sounding record deck.
I would normally set the arm up for proper tracking and check the stylus before playing an Lp. I’d also oil the motor and main bearing. Cosmetics would be last on my list.
De 701 is een echte legend. Mijn vader had 'm vroeger, maar hij had het uitloopmodel met de kast van de 721 in zwart. Perfecte combinatie. Er zat destijds een Shure type V3 onder. Wat een geweldig apparaat.
I am surprised this table arrived in one piece. I am extremely surprised. He had ZERO padding, did not secure the lid, left the platter to roll around loose under the table... Geeze. You were lucky, my man.
Damm it, Andrew! A 32' 24" video on a turntable and you waste more than a half of the time (since 18' 00" on) in a boring refurbishment of its MDF plinth. No one single take of the arm, cartridge, features, calibration, sound... Nothing, but cosmetics! Don't really know to where are you driving your channel, supposing you have any idea about it, at all.
Te grappig hoe deze man totaal niet snapt hoe deze mooie machine werkt. 😂 Het is de eenvoud zelve maar lezen blijft erg moeilijk. Ik vind het nog steeds een pronkstuk in mijn verzameling 😀
ja prachtig! en dat Louis van gaal Engels, maar hij lacht harder dan ik, want ik wou perse een 701. hij betaalde 50 euro, en ik 450 euro. au! maar goed ik weet wel wat ik heb en hoe je er mee om gaat.
