    Great advice as always! Best to check recalls on RDW in the Netherlands? I rang VW and this was their recommendation (but maybe they were just trying to finish work early!)

    • @ot2nie

    I've had my Golf GTE for 18 months. As you mentioned the recalls are crucial - mine has 80,000 miles and had the high voltage battery recall. Only certain dealers in the UK have the sufficiently trained mechanics to do this. Ended up with a brand new battery pack at no cost!

    The only thing I didn’t knew when I bought mine was that GTEs can come with MIB 1 or MIB2. If I was buying one now, I’d look for one with MIB2. Not a deal breaker, but it makes some upgrades a lot easier (virtual cockpit for instance)

    Great advices and awesome car! I had been wondering what could be causing those creaking noises from the suspension for a long time. You also talked about the car responding quite well to tunes which I have also been considering myself for my GTE but are you not worried about breaking the expensive transmission? From what I understand the official tolerance rating is 400nm but have heard several people talk about it being able to do more.

    I drive a 2018 golf gte worried now about turbo failure !!!!!! Need remap then to disable stop start ?
    Or just idle after a hard run...... it is one of the best cars I've owned I love it......

    • @ot2nie
      @ot2nie  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Start stop disable is the best option (tune only)!
      Volkswagen has updated the software so the engine keeps running after high speed driving (and the oil is very hot), so it SHOULD be good.
      I still believe it’s not optimal though, because in most cases it will still turn off the engine too early..

    • @ot2nie
      @ot2nie  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You can btw get it to idle longer by putting the car in battery charge mode and when the car is standing still: hold the brake and tap the gas, it will turn on and keep running, but you have to switch between modes which is annoying..

    2 questions for the GTE community please🙂:
    Thank you Flying Dutchman for the great content about the GTE badged cars. The information is useful compared to the standard reviews on TH-cam.
    First question: I would like to learn more about the technology of the car. Does anyone know about a book or service manual specially for GTE models? I could not find one yet on the web!
    Second question: Is the heating system based on a heat pump? or just a resistance load? Or maybe both? The heating draws as little as 2kWh but sometimes 12kWh. Does anyone knows why?
    I own a Passat GTE (dec. 2016). Very satisfied about the car, specially since a stage 1 tune by the specialists in Lochem inspired by the videos on this channel .

    • @SuperUltimateLP
      @SuperUltimateLP ปีที่แล้ว

      Its a resistive heater.
      The ac compressor does already do double duty by cooling the battery and the interior.

    • @SuperUltimateLP
      @SuperUltimateLP ปีที่แล้ว

      In addition, you have independently circulating coolant loops.
      One low temp loop that does turbo, gearbox, electronics and intercooler.
      This loop also has a heatexcanger from the AC and thus can actively cool the battery.
      The high temp loop does the engine.
      You have 3 electric pumps that are switched on when needed, reducing parasitic losses.
      Also the heat exchanger for the interior is still a standard liquid bases one, that can use engine heat (when available) or uses a electric heater (this gives a reason why you can see fluctuations in heating current, if it can use engine heat, it will!)

    • @SuperUltimateLP
      @SuperUltimateLP ปีที่แล้ว

      Not quite sure why the author of the video claimed the trubo isn't cooled in hybrid mode, the electric pumps should still circulate if the combustion engine switched off!

    Hello, watched many videos from you during the last year. I have a GTE and have always wondered if it is possible to swap the stock 1.4l engine with a Golf R engine. Do you know the answer to this? If it works I think it would be pretty insane considering you have the extra battery to kick with the golf R engine.

    • @THE01GC
      @THE01GC 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ik think that 2.0 engine is to big top put next tot the electrical components of the gte

    • @ElGoogKO
      @ElGoogKO ปีที่แล้ว

      anything can be done, is only a matter of how much you're willing to spend.
      clearly it won't be a PnP easy swap this part put in new part.
      A lot of modifications will be needed, making in not worthy financially and performance wise.
      It would be cheaper to take a golf R and upgrade that with electric motors and the whole EV stuff, using wheel pod style axial flux motors and a lot of tinkering there as well.

  • @Dhundahl

    I am looking to buy one used this spring. What is your opinion on the mileage? Theres a lot for sale that has done around 100 to 115 thousand km (2015-2017), but if you pay the equivalent of 5-6 thousand euro, you can get one which is about 40 to 50 thousand (2017-2018). What would you do? I suppose the money is well spent, but it is also a lot of money you would have to instead use on future repairs.
    Second, if you remap the engine as you mention, to get the extra 50 hp from the battery and around 30 hp from the engine in GTE mode, does that effect other parts of the car? I mean is there any negative consequences of tuning it? And what about the VW warranty? I dont suppose that still applies if you tune the car?
    Thanks :)

    • @ot2nie
      @ot2nie  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’d definitely buy the one with the lower mileage and the advantage typically pays itself off if you’re planning on keeping it for a while😉
      Well tuning always puts more stress on the parts, but these gte’s have proven themselves right, since i know someone who has done 250.000 km and more than 150.000 km of that has been driven tuned and he drives his car hard!
      Warranty applies only if they don’t know😉
      Just remove the tune when taking it in for service like i’ve done and you’re good😀

    • @Dhundahl
      @Dhundahl 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ot2nie Makes sense. And yeah I am planning on keepin it 7-10 years at least. Thanks. How do you "remove" the tune? I would suppose you had to take it back to the shop/company that did the remap? Or is it something you can do on your own with the right equipment?

    • @ot2nie
      @ot2nie  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Dhundahl yep you have to take it back to the tuner and they would take it back to stock.
      If you plan on keeping it for so long, i’d buy the lowest mileage you can afford (and enjoy the longest warranty period).
      These cars are reliable, but having warranty for so long is a nice peace of mind i think😀
