Agree with others here, The September House has very similar horror vibes to Grady Hendrix and House with Good Bones. If you want to try something a bit more horrific, a bit more violence, but still has humor and deep relationships, then David Sodergren is your guy! He's Scottish and I think The Haar is an incredibly funny and emotional horror story that you'd probably love too.

Unpopular opinion, I didn’t love Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires. I did love My Best Friends Exorcism!! Fun video! Glad it ended with a 5 star.

I DNF'd My Best Friend's Exorcism, and largely because I thought the way Hendricks wrote teenage girls was so cringey. Some of it was meant to convey the time period (like the DBNQ thing 🤢) but a lot just didn't ring true to the friendships I had or the way I ever interacted with other girls, so I just couldn't get through. Which is a shame because I did think the horror in the parts I had read were well done.
A book that did something similar but I thought did the friendship stuff better was Goddess of Filth by V. Castro. That's also about a group of friends having a fun night that results in one of them becoming processed and then the main character trying to help that friend.
