  • An early morning trip to the Thai Isaan Market as Pook wanted to get some sweet treats for the family.
A traditional old style market. Here is a link to show you exactly were the place is goo.gl/maps/J1zUB49Tg7mvaqz88
Also came across an aunt who pointed out here three beautiful nieces and the fact that they were looking for westerner husbands.
Visiting a place like this always pushes the senses to the extremes.

Love this video..... your female friend speaks very well English... I am from udonthani myself. I grew up in America... I came to u.s.a when I was 10 years old... my birth homeland is udon and I used to sell vegetables in thai issan market.... what a wonderful memory and brings me to tear to see the market still exist... thanks for sharing.

Stuff the 5* hotel and spa reviews and the straight ahead, mainly tarmac naughty soi walk videos. The only thing I can do Kevin to make these real Thai life videos more authentic is to put on a pair of shorts and a short sleeved shirt, whack the central heating up to 32 degrees and open a can of Lidl Thai chicken soup. Love this one. Since leaving Hua Hin at the end of March, I'm coming into my 7 month of not leaving my flat without a mask and that's been for food shopping and a bit of exercise.
Between the idiots in charge and the idiots out there on the streets, the UK is at exactly the same position with covid cases rising as when I landed here. I get real pleasure out of watching these vids that you and Pookie produce and watching Thai life slowly but surely returning back to normality again. Keep up the good work and best wishes to you both.

Stay safe and keep planning for when you get back here 🙏

@@TheIsaanFarang I wonder how the Thais who buy wholesale and sell retail make a living. The really big wholesale market near Makro (I think) - opposite that private school that was on your right 500m before the railway, the market on the left - isn't much cheaper than the street prices. I liked the little market that gets going at half four, right next to the train tracks. There's a good apartment block just behind there (SP House, 3,500 baht and 5 baht electricity), and it's close to Nong Bua, UD Town and the Your Fitness gym. Somebody who isn't me could live very happily and cheaply there. But me? I go crackers. I can't cope without having all the pressure, and the illusion of progress, of the West. It's quite annoying. My mate spent 13 years in Thailand, would happily go back, but financially can't. I could retire, but would go crazy. Like Jack Spratt and his wife.

The beauty of Udon Thani for me is its only an hour flight from Chiang Mai so making the trip three times a year for some real R&R is well worth it. I always stay in the Old Inn Hotel as it's close to Day and Night bar complex and is a five minute walk to the Nutty Park bar complex. Good places to eat along the street as you make your way up and down. I have found the prices for food, for drinks, for lady drinks, bar fines and the price for a lady to be much cheaper in Chiang Mai and certainly Bangkok. As an added bonus the ladies are a lot more friendly and you never feel like you are just another Falang ATM. With mostly a Falang crowd it's a rare occasion to see Chinese or the dreaded Twatpackers as you step out for the evening. Udon is a great place to visit and for the Expat on a limited budget an ideal place to call home.

Many people from Asia have problems with mixing up L and R (La & Ra).
Seems to me that this is the reason. Even after living in the UK for a long time, Pook still occasionally gets the two mixed up.

    • @TheIsaanFarang

I'm trying to set an example. When teaching English to anyone in the family, the biggest sticking point is that they pronounce 'R' as 'L' and often 'L' as 'R'.
It really is an Asian thing.
I think the first thing that should be taught is the sound and mouth movements needed to pronounce R & L correctly.
      Sorry Rick...Am I going on a bit 🤣
      Thanks for your comment.

The Isaan Farang I have lived here for years. Yes most Asian countries have a problem pronouncing R. If you are in Thailand you need to say things with Thai accent or nobody will understand you. If you plan on living in issan you should try to learn so issan language .it will be easier for you to pronounce than Thai.
