    The Rebels and Empire clashing at a location other than Endor does seem strange, though there is a line in Jedi that might tie into this. Mon Mothma: "We also know that the weapons systems of this death star are not yet operational. ****With the Imperial fleet spread throughout the galaxy in a vain effort to engage us,**** it is relatively unprotected."

    • @SciFiDeepDive
      @SciFiDeepDive 4 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      That's a good point. And the Imperials attacking the Hosnian System fits well with the idea of them trying to take down small scattered Rebel fleets. However you would think they'd use smaller ships like Nebulon-Bs and CR-90s for their diversionary forces and reserve the bigger capital ships for their attack on the Death Star.

    • @kylegesin7178
      @kylegesin7178 4 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      Actually, I think it makes sense to use at least some of the bigger ships as a diversion. If they were trying to speed the imperial fleet out so they couldn't put as many resources at endor, smaller ships might not register as a big enough threat to really pull any imperial recourse away. Also, if it was all only small ships, they might realise something is up, and wonder where all the big guns he rebels have actually are, thus ruining the plan.

      @Rusher Ranker7 Even with the current balance to make the game fair. They would have to nerf the Tie defender into obilion to make it not op. It could be perhaps just special events but not much else. Like perhaps a juggernaut mode in a 1 V 9 and if you can get enough kills as the juggernaut you win or something to that degree. Dosent make much sence to have a juggernaut mode though so that would be a problem. Sorry if it seems im stomping on the idea of adding the Tie defender.

    The MC-75 is one of my favorite ships in Star Wars, it's cool to see them in video games.
    It's weird to know that the Rebel alliance was controlling systems before the battle of Endor, but that may explain the quick defeat of the Empire. If the Rebel alliance was controlling systems like the Hosnian system, it may explain why they had so many ships after the battle of Endor. I suppose the Galactic civil war may have been more violent and spread that we imagined.

    • @jonasb104
      @jonasb104 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This is actually the case. The New Canon kind of buffed up the Rebels. They already control planets before the battle of Endor, for example a part of Sullust (which is why they gathered there) and had an entire campaign in 1ABY-3ABY to conquer the Mid Rim with help of local revolutionaries, but that campaign was stopped and pushed back.
      Basically, after the distruction of Alderaan and then the first Death Star the life of the Empire got a lot more busy than we saw until now on screen. But the new comics and books show pretty well that for the last 5 years of the Empire it was pretty much facing insurrections 24/7.

    It actually makes a ton of sense, that rebels controlled territory. It was a galactic civil war after all. It was always ont of the biggest mistakes that this civil war was painted as if the tiny bit we saw in the movies was all there is to the conflict, especially to the Rebel Alliance. It's also an issue with Rogue One, that painted the Rebel Alliance as basically a human + mon calamari club, even though by this point the civil war started and the rebels should consists of tremendously more alien people.

    #askeck which type of deflector shielding is a more effective form of protection: a bubble-like field that’s constantly active or when the hull is struck, sensors in the armor trigger nearby generators that trigger a transient energy field localized in the area?
    Video suggestion/request:
    X-83 Twintail vs. Tie Defender (Legends)

    • @Herp211
      @Herp211 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If using localized area based shielding you’d have to predict the spot and turn the shield on before impact otherwise the sensor and the armor itself would be destroyed rendering that type of deflector non viable, not sure if Star Wars era computers could predict and accurately raise a shield in time before impact however. As long as the tech is able to compute that fast enough the point defense style deflector you ask about would be far better than having to cover your whole ship with a bubble shield, the bubble would use more energy and likely one generator vs. the localized deflector being able to rely on one generator that could probably take more damage before failing if it was only responsible for a small section of the ship at a time. That’s my take.

    Between Admiral Thrawn of the Star Wars Expanded Universe and Captain Sheridan of Babylon 5 who was the best military strategist?

    • @cgi2002
      @cgi2002 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thrawn was by far the better strategist, and frankly he was fairly incompetent in that role at times. He was a great tactician, but long term strategy he sucked at, and failed to employ his assets effectively.
      Sheridan was a terrible tactician, and an even worse strategist. He was however a moderately capable diplomat.
      TV shows, movies and books like to have a character be a strategist, tactician, diplomat and leader all rolled into one. In reality, there are few if any examples of anyone filing more than 1 of those 4 roles effectively. Generals make poor tacticians, they aren't great at seeing the smaller picture, tacticans make poor generals, they don't do long term or big picture so well. That's why generals have a staff, to do the lower level planning. Same with politicians and diplomats, politicians make plans, diplomats make relationships.

    • @roguerifter9724
      @roguerifter9724 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm curious why you think Sheridan was a lousy tactician.
      You don't actually see him doing much on the strategic level I agree. The closest thing to an exception I recall was when he was analyzing Shadow strategy. The Shadow War was almost always his forces doing their best to react to enemy attacks, and reach targets ahead of the enemy in strength. If memory serves the show never tried to explain his strategy during the civil war beyond liberating Proxima and moving to Earth. We don't know if he just took the shortest route or if there was some strategic purpose to their path beyond speed.
      I also agree that his diplomatic skill was his biggest strength I just don't think that makes him a bad tactician.

    I think the most interesting thing about the MC-75 is that it has that ventral docking bay that's just the right size for a CR-90. I always thought it was weird that the ISD's ventral hangar seems to be just the right size to swallow a Corellian Corvette. Seeing this on other ships makes me think this might just be a standard thing on many larger ships and that the CR-90 was just designed to fit into this universal docking port.

    I know that the book Battlefront: Twilight Company talks about systems that the rebels control and then about rebel forces on those worlds getting pushed back and having to retreat. It's also possible that they didn't outright control the hosnian system, but had strong support there that the imperials found out about, forcing the rebels to defend the planet.

  • @casbot71
    @casbot71 4 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    The Empire after the battle of Scarif should have *reverse engineered* the Profundity to get _Mon Cala shield technology and Turbolaser targeting systems_ (that could allow a Turbolaser to also function as a Lasercannon and shoot down snubfighters).
    Incorporate that tech in ISD's, including retrofitting current ships, and the Empire would be vastly more powerful and capable of dealing with Rebel attacks.
    No shield bulb vulnerability and the Turbolaser heavy ISD's could take out snubfighters.
    There is a point where Human Supremacist is self defeating by ignoring superior Alien technology. [Don't tell Generation Tech].

    • @kenle2
      @kenle2 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The problem was the Empire had already invested in thousands of "cookie-cutter" ISD's and the systems on Mon Cal Cruisers were individually designed to work on particular shapes.
      They'd have to basically tear down the whole Navy design system and start from scratch.
      And the Empire could almost always outnumber and overwhelm the Mon Cal ships ...eventually.

      @@kenle2 I think the bigger question is why they, after having seen the Rebels use overwhelming numbers of snub fighters and bombers as their main source of firepower, didn't focus more on anti-fighter capital ships. They ALWAYS go with overwhelming firepower and skimp on fighter defense and then expect their crappy regular TIE fighters to make up the difference.
      This despite them coming up with the best flyswatter design for a ship in the entire SW universe, which they then promptly hid under a rock and misused because it didn't fit their standard template.

    1 the Mon Calmari are known for building each ship individually -- even within the same class
    2 there is the ShaShore frigate with at least 3 different bow appendages

    Yeah that Star Wars data bank entry, feels like it has some sort of typo or other mistake either the events meant to be post Endor, or its that it’s the rebels attacking (possibly in failed attempt to distract imperial forces from Endor). It wouldn’t be the first time, there was a point where some of the clones had their height has their home planet and height as Kamino.

    @Eckartsladder I know it's not connected but I would love to see you discuss the alternate reality star wars series infinities I found that the 3 that were done were very interesting takes on the original trilogy. As I find the ripple effect of a single change can alter an entire story or series. And how the other films could have been done this way as well which could be a really interesting discussion series possibly.

    Just a thought, since you brought up why there were many MC75 at Exegol. We have to remember that they were CITY ships, housing many Mon Cala before they joined the war effort with the Rebels. Therefore, it would not be surprising that they returned to their home planet after the Empire was defeated, and just retook their "city" status. And when they decided to join the Resistance for Exegol, they just sent back their cities into battle, and lets be honest, you don't dump an old city to transfer all your people to a newer one just because there's more guns for instance. That, in my humble opinion, would explain why there so few technological development in creating new battlecruisers and why the old ones are still vastly in use that many years later.

      @@TheNobleFive it's a shame. Probably a result of the negative feedback many had about the prequels. A lot of what I heard was "I want space battles, not space government hearings" and the like. Personally I love that kind of world building, and like there to be complex and realistic motivations, where politics is very much involved. So I too would've liked more there.
      Fate of the Jedi had a decent amount of courtroom time and bureaucratic meetings if you want to look at legends tho. Always loved those books, 10/10 recommend reading them
