That 38-year-old water heater was probably state of the Art back in 1986. That was five years after I graduated and that chimney sure does need some love that thing needs to be sealed up.
That ancient water heater definitely needs some love
PSE&G put this exact unit in my home ( well their subs did) back in 2020 and I have to say the recovery is excellent even with multiple sequential showers…very pleased.
Can confirm …. We Canadians are definitely sticklers on the BTU’s
Make the trades great again Mikey Pipes. #LoveBosch Smash that like folks Smash it!
Smashed that thumbs up button folks and if you’re in the Long Island, New York City metropolitan area and need a local plumber for a water heater replacement give us a call at 516-348-6300
Saw your sticker on a combination unit in Springfield gardens the old 348 number lol don’t worry I put our sticker in a different spot. Mikey pipes the man the myth also flue had a hole for testing and two testo 320 receipts. Respect brother!
that's right baby - if you ain't testing, you're guessing! I hope you also performed a combustion analysis.
@@PipeDoctor of course did a dual tune up heating and cooling one units shot on both ends heating and cooling the other is fine (both r22) Home Depot special install with the Rudd/rheem hvac units
7:45 - Hearing this when I was born in 86’ . DAMN I’m old I guess !
Thats when things were built to last..
Those days have come and gone
Now that's a hwh built to last
They don’t build them like that anymore that’s for sure
We have 160,000 BTU Rheem tankless water heater and it does great for What. We have two bathrooms, kitchen and our laundry.
That is awesome!
75 gallons are the big boys
Absolutely
Definitely got their moneys worth on that old water heater
Considering that they moved in like five years ago, absolutely
I was hoping for an angle grinder moment on the old tank. Let’s see what’s under the hood (pun intended)
The old tank was recovered by our salvage metal scraper
Anyone remember a copper lined water heater they lasted for 40 or 50 years
that pot of soup has been boiling a long time.......I would have gotten a new high end tankless. I like the Milwaukee pipe thingy
The Milwaukee M 18 force logic press machine is awesome
someone liked their hot water and fast recovery. lol
I don’t think they’ll miss it
@@PipeDoctor yeah, probably have one of those stupid jacuzzi tubs or multi-head shower, that never gets used. lol
Mikey, with the boiler right next to the HW, was adding a indirect an option you'd recommend?
Huge fan from Jersey checking in!
Absolutely a indirect water heater is the second most efficient way for domestic hot water production second, only two tankless water heating technology. Of course there are pros and cons to every and if you are in the Long Island, New York City Metropolitan area and need a local plumber for a water heater replacement give us a call at 516-348-6300.
7:02 im making that a meme LOL :D
Oh yeah
I just installed 180 gallon commercial hot water storage tank it was about 7 ft tall maybe a little bit less
Typically, for something of that size will bring in the commercial and industrial movers in
I am scheduled to attend the Hydronics Summit in Toronto. Has anyone ever attended one?
I’m not I’ve never heard of that before
By installing the 75,000 BTU Water heater, the customer should be sending you a thank you text every month when they get their gas bill. Peter Luger’s steakhouse probably doesn’t have a 250,000 BTU water heater. Still can’t believe New York goes against the manufacturers instructions on sediment traps for the gas line. Can’t fight the jurisdiction, which I’m sure it will come back to bite them in the ass one day and then the manufacture will be free of all liability pointing at the New York code authority.
Yeah, they are. They should be sending maybe some chocolate covered strawberries. But the best way they could thank me is by giving us the best gift possible which is a referral to a friend family member or neighbor. If you need a local neighborhood plumber in the Long Island, New York City metropolitan area, give us a call at 516-348-6300
@@PipeDoctor , just arrived in Astoria Queens , flew in from St. Louis today . The city is hot and humid (you guys will probably be working till midnight tonight).Hope you don’t miss tonight’s swim, no pool heater needed in NYC today.
38 years old worth every penny paid for it. Shame they dont make good stuff anymore.
But it was also using a tremendous amount of fuel to maintain and deliver 75 gallons of water from that tank
No mixing valves needed in NY?
Not at all - not required by code in my jurisdiction
Mike, there are still plenty of those Rheem Rheemglas Fury model water heaters out there as well. Do you see the age of that one?
She’s old as fuck
Mikey, why’s it so hard for a 20 yro to join hvac in Wisconsin ? 😭😭
That’s a great question. I am not aware of any contractor that would not like to hire someone for an apprenticeship as long as they have a certain set of mechanical skills and the drive and ambition.
@@PipeDoctor pray for me Mikey 🙏🙏
Pipe do it thinks 75 gallon tiny water heater tank is big😂 😂😂
That 250,000 BTU 75 gallon water heater that is like 40 years old yeah that was a beast
Only 6 year limited warranty? I wonder what the warranty was on the one replaced considering it lasted 38 years...
It was probably six years for residential and two years for commercial but then again they don’t make things like they used to
Where did you get that hand truck from the beginning of the video?
Harbor Freight
250K BTU could be useful in a residential home if you like taking very long and very hot showers :).
And it’s also tremendously wasteful
They Don’t make Water Heaters even remotely close to that anymore. You’re Lucky to get 10 years out of the Crap they Sell at the Big Orange Box Store. 🤪👎
Good thing I don’t buy my water heaters from big box store
Is that your Tesla truck
That purple cyber truck belongs to the corporation
Thats just a fast recovery
Exactly
75 gallons is 75 gallons
That was a commercial water heater which is not needed in a home
That was a gross waste of energy for 36 years
@@PipeDoctor
Exactly
You don't solder pipes like a true plumber. You must use sharkbites too lol
I am a licensed and insured master plumber in several states, and I am a master plumber who embraces technology to minimize risk and to increase job cost effectiveness. If you were going to comment on my channel, be respectful.
Certainly no need for such a water heater. But not sure if I agree about the energy wasting comments. It doesn't matter if the water heater is 75,000 BTU or 75 million btu. The same amount of BTUs will be used to heat the 75 gallons of water to the temperature set point. The only difference between the 75000 and 75 million, is how quickly that happens. But the exact same amount of BTUs will be used. So not really wasting energy at all. Just doing the job quicker. Obviously, a water heater with more btu, will cost more money up front and certainly not worth it. Please correct me if I am wrong but this is my understanding.
Let's give a better example. Two different 75 gallon water heaters. One is 75,000 BTUs and one is 150,000 BTUs. Let's say the 75,000 BTU takes 1 hour to heat the tank. It will obviously burn 75,000 BTUs. Keeping in mind of course, that the BTU rating is an hourly rating. 75,000 BTUs means it uses 75,000 BTUs in 1 hour. If the 75,000 BTU water heater heats the tank in 1 hour, then the 150,000 BTU water heater will heat the same 75 gallons in half an hour. Burning only 75,000 BTUs. Because the 150,000 BTUs that it burns is in 1 hour. Meaning that it only burns 75,000 BTUs in half an hour. So no energy savings. Just saving the price of the more expensive tank. if someone was offered both tanks for free, it's a no-brainer that you should take the 150,000 BTU tank. Because it burns the same amount of BTUs and heats up the water much quicker
Thanks so much for posting your feedback and sharing your opinion on this matter.
