    Thank you about the hair. I spent 30 plus years as a police officer and kept it short. Now I am retired and have long hair. It looks great. So many people have said, "oh I thought you would have kept it short now that you are over 50." Good thing I am not armed anymore. Lol.

      Wearing your hair short helps its strength. I see many people who had long hair growing up.Now their hair is fine and receding. I had short hair for years. Now its long,blonde and healthy.

      And not only. It is sooo deliberating. As long as we chase youth we'll be very dissapointed and unhappy. As we can't reverse the clock no matter what we do or how hard we try. As soon we embrace ourselves and our age life feels good again.

    Thank you!. In just 6 days I'll be 56. I stopped coloring my hair when the pandemic started. I never hid my age, but I've neglected my appearance at this time. I was motivated by your video. A hug from Honduras

  • @Diana-rd1jk
    @Diana-rd1jk 4 ปีที่แล้ว +124

    Beth, thank you for this message
    I'm 66 and I agree with just about every word you said. I'm not hiding my age and I'm often offended by favorite bloggers whose platform seems to always be, how to look younger! I don't want to look younger, I just want to be the best Me, I can be.
    The one thing I question is hair. My hair like yours has always been short, now it's shorter! But I do know a couple of ladies where the long hair really does drag their faces down and they look much older to me. For them shoulder length would probably work better. I love long silver locks, but I think you have to study your face in a mirror and decide if the long hair is still attractive or not.
    Thanks again for this video. So many women are so insecure as they get older, and they need to hear, It's ok! We don't need to be 20 again!

    • @janicevin4207
      @janicevin4207 4 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      I think you have to study your features and see what hair length suit you better and that goes for any age!!! long hair did not suit me very well after my teens!!!!

    • @cmasse64
      @cmasse64 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree with you. I'm 57 and I am proud of my age! I don't want to "look good for my age," I want to just, look good. I've always had my hair on the short side too, only because I have so many issues with my hair. I've found a bob which suits me and I've kind of stuck to it. I do let it grow out and sometimes I do different versions of bobs but that's definitely my preference.

    My sister passed on at the age of 36 after a courageous battle from cancer. So every year we live is a gift! we should be blessed & proud to say our age! However, women will avoid telling their age ( & weight) because this country encourage them to do so after 39! Yet older men are supported when they brag about their age and weight. Such shallow double standard! You dress like my amazing sister Angela which is a HUGE compliment! Angela look like Susan Luccie from All My Children. She was such a class act lady and humble genius as well. Angela was the best daughter, mother, wife, registered nurse, and friend and neighbor! Truly enjoy your station.Thank you and blessed new year.

    It’s great to see that you are still wearing shorter length skirts and not feeling you have to cover your surgery scar. I’ve had a big hunk taken out of my leg due to cancer. For a while I felt I should cover my legs by wearing longer skirts and dresses or even long trousers for summer. Just was too hot. So if folk have a problem seeing a scar, well it’s their problem not mine! I enjoy your blogs thank you Beth.

    I think my style was always classic. I couldn’t afford to get every new trend off the runway. I still have beautiful classic pieces I purchased 20 years ago. I'm only 5'2" tall. Almost any skirt is below my knees and a lot of them have hems that can't be shortened. I just go with whatever it is. If it's long, it's long. In that case, I try to go with a boho feel for daytime. I'd like to wear short because I also live in a warm place but I don't find enough things that can be shortened. I try to pair a longer skirt with a barer top. Not revealing but sleeveless, or with straps or even off the shoulder.

    Love it. Thanks for challenging the usual script. Simply, you look good, avoid looking frumpy, have a haircut that suits you, long or short. I'd like to add, if I see one more style tip video that favours a "heel" as "better" than a flat, I'll scream. In my 50's and haven't worn heels for decades, nor can I. I refuse to be uncomfortable. Wearing shoes bad for your feet (high, pointy, hard, poor fit) will usually have consequences later in life. You can have the most expensive, most beautiful shoes in the world, but if you aren't comfortable in them there's no point.

    Thank you!! Spot on about the typical age related beauty topics that are always talked about for us over 40, 50, 60! What we should do, should not do and why frumpy is a word attached to older women! I love it when women such as yourself promote aging as positive and beautiful!! I have learned to dress the way I feel comfortable abs wear my hair and makeup according to what works best for me. I am 63! The only issues I struggle with are wearing styles that are geared more for much younger body types. The reason is because I am petite at 5’2 and I weigh 120. So to find clothes that fit I have to shop in the junior department which styles are for teens! Anyway, admire your attitude and classy attire!

    I was excercising and finally got my weight down to where I was on the thinner side. I was riding my home exercise bike last spring and I was on the last ten minutes of my work out. I suddenly felt something down there if you know what I mean. I got off of my bike and went to the bathroom and got a mirror and my uterus prolapsed to second stage! I agree with the legnth of a skirt. I had lots of frumpy long dresses. I have gotten rid of all of my frumpy dresses this year and revamped my entire wardrobe. I know wear that little black dress. I have gained 40 pounds because of menopause and my prolapsed uterus but I actually feel better about myself like this. I got a cute long layered bob and started to henna my hair black again. I have gone back to my goth style vibe with a short black cute stylish dress fish nets and Doc Martins. I used to have black hair and dress for rock n roll shows when I was younger. My little sister said I looked the best like that. I couldn't see it then like that but now I do. I am a strict vegan now going on 4 years and I feel so much better. My cholesterol is back to normal and my mind is clearer. So rock that skirt above the knee ladies if that's what makes you feel happy and not down in the frumps. Lol

    I lived in Paris, France for ten years and not once did any French person say I "looked good for my age". In France, your age does not matter at all. French women embrace aging so much that I don't they even think aging at all!! When I got back stateside is when I was told "you look good for your age". I finally got disgusted with the ageism is our society that the last time a woman at work who loves to tell me remind me about my age and she is 20 years younger than me and overweight. I am fit and I dress very well. I responded, "I look good for any age including your age". She stopped giving her "back handed compliments" after that!

    I spend a lot of time with people much younger than me. I'm one of the oldest people doing my sport. I usually think that it helps keep me young. But lately have been feeling old, and feeling the age difference. But THIS is what 54 looks like for me. And my sport does keep me young and fit!

    So agree with all you have said! Nice to hear it said as I have a lot of friends who could use your advice. Eating healthy and exercise is so important but so many do not put in the effort! Use it or lose it applies here! I am 60 and grateful that my Mom was always exercising and passed that down to me! I like to hike outdoors, ski both downhill and cross - country and bike. Try new activities and keep on learning!

    I’ve been given many complements over the years about how I dress & look. I try to wear stylish modern clothes appropriate for a “Mature Woman” of a certain age & don’t follow trends.
    I dress up everyday, do my make-up & hair even if I don’t have plans to go anywhere. It just makes me feel good about myself to do so.
    You’re a great role model & I love yr positive attitude about aging gracefully, staying strong & beautiful.

      I am so happy to FINALLY hear someone counter the age myths that so many style bloggers are putting out there and most are quite younger than 60 having absolutely no concept as to how it feels to be 60 and older. I am turning 68 this year and feel quite vibrant and alive in my skin. I wear the skinny jeans, above the knee skirts/dresses, shorts, off shoulder tops, and I sport long hair. In the summer, I love to wear sandals and open toe shoes so I will hit those nails with florescent orange or coral polish! Since being in lockdown for the past year, my hair has grown quite a bit longer and I have no intentions on cutting it. My fashion style is quite eclectic and, oftentimes, fun! I have my classic look days; however, some days I choose a more cheeky look. I am not going to choose outfits that are inappropriate and would not choose clothing items that are going to make me appear “trashy”. Clothes should be fun and playful, yet appropriate for the occasion. How we dress should embrace our inner beauty and project confidence and self-awareness. I am certainly not one who can be put in a box...heck...I couldn’t even get in the box as that seems to be my cat’s favorite place to hang! Personal style seems to evolve over the years, so it is going to be interesting to see where this journey takes me over the upcoming years!! Thanks for a great video!!

    Recently, I have reconnected with friends from 30 years ago. We cannot tell each other's age anymore from our appearance. Some look like how I remember them from long ago while others have significantly looked older. Most have changed their disposition for the better. A few have become more interesting.

    Dear Beth, congrats excellent video.
    What you say is true, we have to be posivite and understanding to each other. Style is a way to express about how we are feeling about ourselves. We all differ in fellings and how to express those through our outfits.
    Love your style, classy and elegant.
    Take care and be safe.

    I was told the other day by another women that she thought I was 53 and I'm actually 63 :) but I think its because I don't follow rules and I feel youthful !!! I don't dress like a young women but I do still keep it fresh and know the classics. I enjoy watching trends but don't feel I need to follow ...At my age I know my body and what works and what doesn't work and I'm mindful of that :) There is one color that is beautiful on ladies of all ages and that's a beautiful soft pink/peach nice in a blouse or jacket !!! Iv also paired down my jewelry to a bit more delicate instead of the huge statement jewelry around my neck...Pearls are a girls best friend but not like grandma wore !!! I save my large pieces for my rings and bracelets ....Beth has wonderful tips !!! Be you :) Thank you Beth regarding at a certain age we don't have to cut our hair short :)
