I animate to songs that mean a lot to me and this one is no different, so I really tried to give it my all! Took much longer than I'm used to since I tried to animate almost every scene :)
This animation is based on @Grian 's minecraft hardcore Life Series! Specifically on the most recent season (Double Life) and the dynamic with his soulmate, @GoodTimesWithScar . It combines canon events with my own headcanon backstories so feel free it interpret it as you will. I'd love to hear what you think it means in the comments.

This is one of those rare animations that are so masterful and are dripping with so much symbolism and artistic beauty that I'm completely overwhelmed with the things I want to say and genuinely don't know where to begin. I have so many words that I'm speechless.

i thought that this animatic was about the entirety of their relationship, and i’m kinda right? but you like. made into their ORIGINS! and it’s so so cool that you interpreted it from their birth up until being soulmates, that’s genuinely SO cool and unique! also the style this animation is done in is absolutely stunning to watch, i am in awe… scar being a sac man that grian made as a teen and then them reuiniting and travelling together… the hints at previous lives.. IHGHGHHJB.. AND THE FREAKING FLASHBACKS SCAR GETS TO ALL THE TIMES GRIAN KILLS HIM UGHHSHDHDHD STAPPHH

Double Life is probably the life series I’m least familiar with, but I absolutely adore this animation and want to gush about it so much. There’s so much to say about every part, and I especially can’t stop thinking by about the scene where the two of them are in a boat. Just like every moment of this animation, it’s filled to the brim with symbolism and the more you look, the more you see. Just to point out some of the things that I noticed:
- Grian is the one paddling- he’s the one trying to get places while Scar is enjoying the ride. However, Grian also abandons Scar at the end, refusing to slow down and wait, thus leaving him behind
- It looks to me that they’re rowing backwards from the right of the frame towards the left (from what I can tell although I don’t row a lot of boat so I could totally wrong), with Grian’s paddle pushing the water forward and the boat back. It’s such a cool detail that really tells us that something doesn’t quite feel right with the way the two of them are heading
- The vision of the allay holding the heart looks very similar to the Grian shown more in later scenes or like the winged heart that he transforms into after winning 3rd Life
- The transition for the feather from Grian’s yellow to the red and then the faded pink is such a nice touch
There are so many details in this animation along with the lovely art style and amazing animation itself (THOSE TRANSITION OMG), that really make it so worth rewatching!! One hundred percent keeping this on loop for days and I’m sure even then it’ll definitely still be as captivating :D

My absolute favorite part is at 0:11 when Scar's soul enters the puppet and Grian's eyes go whoosh with hearts and his pupils dilate and the red string pops up behind him and you can hear their shared heartbeat and whoa they're soulmates now and-

my absolute favorite moments have got to be the detail of scars soul (presumably a vex) entering what seems to be a puppet-corpse; and how one of the injuries just Couldnt heal, hence, the scar. the woosh of grians heart eyes and the reveal their soulmates was stunning too. aswell as towards the end where scar transitions to a red life and gallops away on his horse to find grian, cut to grian Alone in the cave, and the segment at the end and the implied suicide was absolutely heartbreaking. the final shot of them holding hands , together again , Dead-- and the sudden gunshot was fucking heartbreaking. you are a visionary op and a god amongst men
EVERYTHING!!! but I really love that you added like a backstory for grian(?) When he was a little bird at 1:14! I have never seen people headcannon that grian came from an egg. The animation for everything is so good I'm absolutely speechless.
I know I’m not smart enough to understand what’s going on but I am smart enough to see that this is one of the most INCREDIBLE ANIMATIONS I HAVE EVER SEEN. The fact that it hasn’t reached a million views is a crime and to rectify that I shall be rewatching it a million times.
SUCH a great animation, pap! there's so many moments that I absolutely adored, it'd be impossible to choose a favorite. scar being caught up in the mob of people, baby bird grian, the dancing??? all of it is just,,, so gorgeously made.
another part I absolutely loved at the end was how them holding hands looked like an anatomical heart (I dunno if that was intentional but that's how I choose to see it haha)

Man, I love the kind of animation that makes you rewatch it again and again in order to understand and interpret it your own way, catch all of the little details, see more meaning behind simple images. That's quality content
Love the fact that scar is a doll.
It reminds me of when my little brother had this pillow he would take everywhere that kept getting rips in it, so I would have to fix it since I was the only one who knew how to hand sew.
It happened so many times that the pillow got named “stitches”
So Grian making a little doll and naming it scar after he had to mend it just gets me right in my heart.
Honestly if you didn’t tell me this was a double life animation I’d think it was an unrelated project made by an indie production company.
Like I’d go “Wow this reminds me of Grian and Scar!”
The fact that you put this much effort, and so much symbolism and background into an animation about Double Life is so freaking cool oh my god.

dude, this is INCREDIBLE! my jaw dropped when i realized how smooth and beautiful this was when the intro started, oh my god. jaw stayed on the floor the whole video. the little scrungle fluffball grian is so good and adorable and i LOVED that ending. i’m going nuts over this holy shit.

Can I just say, I seriously love how almost abstract your animations are, and how everything just flows into each other. It's a really unique art style, and it absolutely works wonders.
IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS ONE (Pap's been working so hard on this, and I'm so happy to have seen some of the behind the scenes works) GET KEEN
something that I think speaks to how much of a masterpiece this is is how much expression you put into these guys despite them not having the facial features that people usually use to show expression (mouth and nose and such). it's incredible how much you can convey through the shape of the eyes and the framing and the coloring, and also the way the animation meshes with the words!! the way grian looks so incredibly lonely at 0:15 because he's the only thing in the frame aside from literal celestial bodies, and the coloring goes all dark. the way grian looks exasperated at 0:32 because of the wing flap and because he's looking down. the entire feeling at 0:48, where scar sits up alone and the background is dark and the moon is bright and he looks to the side and his eyes curve and it's so clear he's been left behind. or in 1:07, after scar throws the cookies and the background goes red and grian just. stares. to me it feels like he's going, how did it come to this. I am in awe.
something else I just noticed is that 2:00 to 2:08 is every time scar dies in third life (plus the famous friendship flowers!!) and I can't believe how you put all of that in just eight seconds. really the whole animatic is a sequence of detail upon detail and I can't comprehend how it fits all in only two minutes and 21 seconds. I can't imagine how much time it took to plot this all out and then execute it.
OH MY GOSH. is the person who drops grian off at 1:19 the same person at the beginning who animated (?) scar at the beginning??

I came to the comments to see if anyone knew who the person laying against the tree at 1:46 was, and your comment made me realize that the figure who reanimated scar+drops grian off has a similar hairstyle to this one. still no closer to figuring it out but i wonder if it's the same. i mean, they're drawn in different styles, so i may be making connection where nothing is. it really doesn't look like the ragdoll that scar becomes, is all i know.
edit: hmmm or maybe it _is_ puppet scar. it might just be a different angle and that's why it didn't seem like him to me
The sequence from 1:26 to 1:34 is my absolute favorite by itself

The end,,,the end,,,god it just hit me it reminded me of the wardens sonic blast holy,,,and the screen is black and they were holding hands but it was just the outline they were holding *souls*,,,the sound reverberating between them,,,I am not ok

I loved the animatic it's so emotional and i love it, favorite scene is the one where Grian is siting with the big skeleton.
My theories are: Grian has some kind of connection to scar because a magician saved his life from falling of his nest and in LL Scar was a mage. The big skeleton is Grian's "mother" which means it died before Grian was born. Scar is an allay using some kind of puppet to live that could be one that Grian made to not be alone, because we can see the puppet is in a tree and there is one in 1:46. Grian is a bird using mark or clothes to hide himself and also maybe that's why he doesn't like the Jelly's.
Sorry i just really like it and i couldn't help it. I love to interpretate drawings and animatics, especially when they are this good with so much detail.

Ok, from what I could understand,
Grian grew up alone => didn't have friends.
There was also a frame of him making some kind of a puppet, and Scar is a puppet => Grian made Scar and/or brought him to Life.
Am I even close?
Oh! Then there is the Alley, and the person with a scar in the beginning, and something makes me think that the person is the Third Life Scar or smt. The puppet Scar doesn't remember anything from before and is just a shell of a person, but as the series go on he remembers the past events (1:50)

i am so AMAZED with this animation and i cant believe i hadnt seen it sooner !! i adore the bits you included of the backstory headcanons and i find them super interesting, your specific grian design is so unique (and CUTE w those big ol eyes) and i found myself pausing to take in specific frames bc they have so much meaning !!! my particular favorite bits are right at the beginning at 'to hear sounds of people' w everything that goes on in grians eyes (the hearts !!! and the owlish head turn !!!) and 'no one will save me' with the BRIEFEST FLASH of them dancing together, that bit gave me shivers and i think this is the animation im the happiest to have ever found
