    a nice lession example from the chess bible, my system. every tech is straight mastery of what nimzo gave to the common player up to the very best gm. thanks karpov for that fine sample of blockade rook 7 8 ranks and superior activity and advanced king with even the 5 special cases of the 7 8 rank control by knight .and rook. and time advantage.

    How come positional players calculate variations, don't they primarily judge or evaluate the position??

    • @manmoth_1990
      @manmoth_1990 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's like asking why does Messi pass the ball to his teammates? Doesn't he primarily score goals? Yes, but he can also pass the ball like a master.

    • @manmoth_1990
      @manmoth_1990 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      There is a common misconception about players like Karpov and Petrosian that they were ONLY positional. Look up some of their sacrifices and combinations, and you'll see that on good days they could be as creative as Tal or Alekhine.

      Just because they have a tendency doesn't mean they can ignore fundamental parts of the game. No calculation = loss every game.

    No. The US corporate media focused on a cold war logic that persists to this day. Karpov was always nice. But it didn't suit the role of the war hawks to show that side of his personality - not good political capital.

    @melrakan 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Oh, wow, it's so great that you can see into the future. Can you also tell me the next pope?
    It kind of does mean shit nowadays. The mentality is quite different from what it used to be; back then it was, for example, dishonourable and frowned upon to not accept a piece sacrifice when one was offered. A lot of other things were different as well. Morphy also used a very aggressive, gambit-based strategy with his playing - it wouldn't hold nowadays. Kasparov or Capablanca are much more balanced.
