i had the honor of meeting master Karpov personally, he is an incredible humble person, despite his fame, and as you say, he is a true gentleman, i still keep his autograph
Dude Will, I'm LOVING these throw back videos. Ron is a greaaaat commentator too I like how he keeps things simple for us non-GM's :). I wonder are Karpov and Henley really close friends outside of chess studying?
yea this video series was pretty fun for me to watch while editing. ron has worked as karpov's second and trainer at many matches/events since the 1990s - most recently working as Karpov's 2nd for his 2012 St. Louis match w/ Yasser Seirawan
Ah, yes, but not necessarily in that order :). Here are the 10 greatest of all time, in chronological order: Morphy, Lasker, Capablanca, Alekhine, Botvinnik, Tal, Fischer, Karpov, Kasparov, Carlsen. (some near misses: Steinitz, Anand, Kramnik, Petrovian, Spassky, Rubinstein, Keres, Anderssen, Korchnoi, Euwe, Smyslov .....). Am I not right?
To me the big 3 are Fischer, Tal, and Bronstein. Then Karpov & Kasparov. I don't know enough about Morphy and we will see where Carlsen fits in. Honourable mention to Capablanca.
Coronado326 -No doubt about that....and he managed to remain a “normal” human being. So many chess greats fall to the delusion that because they are great at chess their shit doesn’t stink ( think their superior in any other opinion they have).. Despite all the grueling matches he’s played he remained well grounded and unconcieted. Quite remarkable.
Check out my interview with Karpov, I got him to open up quite a bit about his recent match with Seirawan. Mail me a PGN if you see any games from the match you'd like me to cover.
haha yea tony - karpov is too nuts. he is still beating people up on the board in 2012 - he just beat ivanchuk in a rapid tiebreaker to win a tournament named after karpov in france recently. too much!
thanks for checking out our videos and commenting. we have the entire DVD in our online shop - i´d be glad to offer you a 50% for all digital items in the store - just send me a personal message and i´ll shoot over your coupon code. cheers, Will
Thanks for the video. I finally found a top level game that proves that the best in the business know the true value of the pieces. Kamsky could have won or drawn this game after the big exchange. You tube video "Chess Secrets The Value Of The Pieces"
10:20 - "Now, we stop this pawn... forever."
