- Shay Healy sings “Making Mountains Out Of Mohill” live from The Stable Sessions.
Making Mountains Out Of Mohill is a plain and rustic song by Shay Healy performed with obvious nostalgic longing for home, the past and the simple life of one’s hometown.
"I couldn't resist the temptation with the pun. Leitrim is surrounded by little hills called drumlins, so it really was making mountains out of Mohill. But also, in there is a very tender, loving ballad of exile. A guy walking down Bainbridge Avenue hearing the traffic, realising how far he is away from the morning dew and the sound of a bird being untraumatised in its sight. Instead the peace and quiet of Mohill is not disturbed by the clanking of garbage trucks or police sirens. I rightly say it's a very nice place to be quiet."

Lyrics:
There’s a little spot in Ireland that I come from
I think about it every single day
the memories grow more vivid by the hour
as I dream in New York city far away
oh Mohill you’re the jewel in all of Ireland
a place whose equal you will never find
and though the rolling hills are not that great in stature
I’m making mountains out of Mohill in my mind
Chorus
You won't find there’s too much neon back in Mohill
No pimps and hookers prowling down the street
In truth there’s not a lot going on in Mohill
But there’s peace and quiet that’s very hard to beat
2.
Long ago the show bands played the rainbow ballroom
on Sunday nights in Farne they’d pack them in
and they like their country music back in Mohill
where big tom is still the undisputed king
but there was nothing that could beat a good old seisuin in
a pub
as with fiddle, flutes and banjos we‘d unwind
I still hear it when I ‘m walking down on Bainbridge avenue
making mountains out of Mohill in my mind
Chorus
3.
You can drive straight through Mohill in next to no time
as fine a place as ever you could leave
I close my eyes and conjure up the drumlins
they’re beauty is sometimes beyond belief
if I exaggerate a bit in my descriptions
it's just because I miss her all the time
and I compensate for being a lonely exile
by making mountains out of Mohill in my mind.
Chorus
4.
For sure the Bronx it ain’t no piece of heaven
make the best of it that‘s what I try to do
it’s when I wake up in the city that I feel it
‘cos I really miss the early morning dew
and songbirds can’t compete with sirens wailing
as once more I face into my daily grind
and I’ll take some comfort in my special memories
by making mountains out of Mohill in my mind
Chorus
