The only thing with the s-type is that the mic can not pick up the deep tone, I also have an S-Type and video never does the the sound justice ...it's not as loud as the ATAK but it is deeper
I have the Borla S-Type Axle-Back on my 2SS Anniversary convertible. You nailed it! I know it's sometimes difficult to hear the true sound in a video clip, but you absolutely nailed it Matt! AWESOME video. I can see a LOT of people using this video for comparisons. I have "earmarked" it for future reference. Thanks. Mike
Alfred Hernandez Same here. Was planning for aftermarket exhaust, until I realized how loud it already is, especially indoors. It's about as loud as it can be, without waking up kids up from their sleep.
James Min yeah man like the first couple of thousand miles it wasn't that loud, but now that I'm over 6k miles, it seems to be getting louder and louder. I stepped on it under a tunnel the other day and I was like damn this car is loud! Even some of my friends have asked if I have done anything to it and I'm like nope.
Alfred Hernandez same here. I have the 2016 1ss with dual mode exhaust and it did get louder with time. My neighbors know when I'm coming home from work😀
I have the Borla ATAK on my Z06 Corvette and it sounds awesome. I like loud cars and the ATAK was advertised as Borla's loudest exhaust so I went with it and I'm very happy.
Awesome video Matt, both cars sound really good. Whether stick or auto the tone as they go into the higher rpms sounds very aggressive so its a win win for both sides 👍 keep up the great work man!
Looking forward to the cat backs. I didn't hear a ton of difference so that being said I probably lean towards the S-type since it's supposed to be slightly milder. That way if I eliminate the secondary cats or do headers it won't be out of control. Daily driver.
Just recently swapped my stock dual exhaust on the 2ss to the quad Borla S-Type cat-back and it sounds great. I think if you use your camaro for daily driving ATAK might be a little too loud. Great video comparison!
Got me an ATAK cat back and had it on for a while before I replaced the headers and mids. Longtube headers with the ATAK cat back are so loud it’s not even funny. Thing cracks at every gear on the rev down just below 4K. This video didn’t quite capture that from the ATAK but you do hear it on the S. I think it’s due to the automatic transmission. Mine sounds like F1 loud especially in a downtown environment.
Balisong05 very satisfied with the S-Type. I’ve never heard the ATAK in person due to there being very few Camaros in my area. The S-Type really sounds a lot more aggressive in person. Cameras never do it justice!
@@Azerlazer26 appreciate the reply. Really torn. Does the s type leave you wanting more? I'm really wanting that muscle car sound vs the exotic tone of the say corsa.
Balisong05 Me personally, the S-Type is the sweet spot. It’s not ear bursting loud but not “quiet” like the stock NPP exhaust. I wouldn’t change my setup at all! The exhaust does offer a deeper muscular tone over the stock. If you’re in Michigan I wouldn’t mind meeting up so you can hear the car.
Yeah it does. Although I have been starting to enjoy the sounds my stock NPP exhaust has been making recently. At first I really wanted to change it up but it's really opened up over the last few months. It gurgles and pops so damn much on deceleration over 2k. I still think the Borla system sounds better on idle and lower gear. I will probably change it up to Borla S-Type at some point.
@M S 3 years later hope you still have it, got a 2019 Camaro 2ss yes stock sounds amazing it pops so much. Would it be better getting attack or s type?
Thanks. I was up in the air in both. Your video helped me decide on getting the S-Type for me 2SS RS Manual. I was hesitant because I was worrying about cabin drone. But thought screw it I only drive it once every two weeks. Time to make some music. Subscribed.
Comment after I installed my catback ATAK, it is too loud when I daily drive my car, especially when I removed the back seat. I am absolutely love the sound of my exhaust. Everyone who took a ride with me love the exhaust. The sound is incredible when the car drive pass the safety wall on the track.
Atak has a bark and the s type is more refined..little softer growl to it. Both are nice. To be honest...it was hard to discern the differences in sound during the drive by's.
The atak is more beefy sound but the s type has crackles and it’s not that much of a difference from the loudness anyway. I would get the s type. My uncle has the atak on his Silverado though and it is pretty loud.
Ive been waiting on more comparison videos! I think the S type sounds so much better, more cracks and pops. I do wish Borla didn't make the inside of the tips narrow like that but other than that I think I'm going to order my S type catback right now!! Nice vid.
Both sound awesome! Now I have a 2017 2SS and I have noticed a more pronounced exhaust burble/grumble when I've got the actual drive mode in Track. It also has a better throttle response too. When these videos are made, it doesn't sound like they have it in Track mode. I've got stock NPP and when I've got everything set in Track mode, it is literally music with the smallest of throttle blips. For the sake of comparing exhaust notes, these cars should go through all the driving modes (not just exhaust modes). Give it a true test. It does make a difference. :)
I liked the S Type better. To me it didn't sound as tinney as the ATAK did. I also agree the S type does have a more old school sound to it. Which i really like!!!
Honestly I think my NPP sounds better than both of them. And I can suppress it for long trip/when needed. Thrilled with the way this car sounds right out of the factory. Not to mention the overrun....the crackles and burbles are addicting.
Good video mat. I honestly didnt know about E85 making the exhaust note different then 91. I have the Atak installed on my SS and I have notice a different sound when I drive in manual mode vs Auto. The exhaust seems deeper or more throaty but I'm am going to test your theory with 91 vs E85 sound quality. Again great video, keep them coming.
What is CLOSED valve volume like? Compared to stock NPP CLOSED valve? LOUD is easy.....not hard to have loud, but I'd like it louder than stock when closed, but not obnoxious. Whole point of the NPP in my opinion.

The borla s sounds great. Is there a way to have this sound when reviving but not that idle noise that sounds like gluglugglug? I’m sure there’s a term for this but I dunno what it is.

Difference in sound between auto and manual is AFM, it has nothing to do with idle speed. AFM goes away when you do a DOD delete like mine.
