- The Gauteng Finance Department has revealed that more foreign nationals than locals are registering to own spaza shops. MEC Lebogang Maile says this is worrying as it indicates that most South Africans are not participating in the spaza shop business.
Tune into Newzroom Afrika DStv channel 405 for more.
The ANC’s failure is complete. The Black Child is now in a worse position than during apartheid.
Some will still remain arrogant to that fact
CANNOT ARGUE WITH THAT. AT LEAST APARTHEID DID NOT ALLOW FOREIGNERS TO COME TAKE OVER THE TOWNSHIPS. APARTHEID DID NOT EVEN ALLOW WHITE BUSINESSES TO HIRE ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS. THIS BLACK LEADERSHIP WILL SELL SOUTH AFRICANS TO THE DEVIL HIMSELF.
The next one's to go are our shebeens and taxis😂😂😂
How can you allow illegal migrants to apply for licences .... it's not constitutional .
Spaza shop is not a scare skill
true
Turns out it is.
@@siZobonaMakeza Rotten expired food is a new product to sell after all. Not done before in SA.
@@Tinker8531 that’s a lazy statement, and frankly an indictment on us for empowering the bad leadership we relentlessly keep choosing to represent our interests even though they do not do the simple job of enforcing food safety law.
ANC have failed Black South Africans
Yep, and Madiba told us what to do them once they betrayed us.
They have failed all South Africans except the ruling elite but their arrogance still remains. Most of them are even too fat to walk properly.
I don't think we need foreign nationals for spaza shops. We have been surviving before this started
You survived because the apartheid masters own all shops
South African institution s has tremendously failed south Africans
That's not the point the point is local spaza shop belong to south Africans.
Secondly shoprite pick n let spar; supersaves must open mini markets or spaza shops in townships working together with local business people and employing locals as part of job creation
@@SiphoMosea-df5hz who said spaza shops are for South africans only ngokuba spaza shops wasn't even your idea its been years foreign spaza shops running where were you black south africans? and not even white south africans r fighting fr these spaza why only u ths is just act of jealous💔 likealways...
You need individuals like Herman Mashaba who established businesses to run such SME programs not privileged tenderpreneur MECs or Ministers!
After the ANC wonders why more and more people are not voting for them
ANC like digging their own grave. Come 2026, they will sell a story of how the township should belong to South Africans, same ones who remain quiet and the same fools who buy from foreign spaza shops will believe the ANC. Our problem is our own people more than anybody else..
Well done ANC. Think about it. The struggle for liberation was primarily about economic emancipation. This was the key mandate given to the ANC. Needless to say that the ANC fell far short of this mandate. But in addition to failing what do they do? They facilitate the takeover of whatever little opportunity there is for the rural and Township folk to eke a living, the Spaza economy. Black economic empowerment is not only dead for the majority of black people, but they are being stripped of whatever little they have to empower people who had long attained independence when South Africans were still fighting for freedom.
They should scrap BEE
@@Ash_Hole-f7p What does that have to do with spaza shops. BEE did not stop White Businesses from hiring Black illegal foreigners!!!!! ANC are sellouts and White Business are sell outs. Both need to go!!
6 foreign national s running 1 shop that is what is happening so now the government will only support 1 individual instead of 6in 1 so their business will remain strong
I hope they are not going to give our tax contributions to foreigners.
Spaza business, Its a honey pot out here in south africa.Osoble And Barwako you time is running out.Abahambe
The large amounts of financial security are being detoured into foreign strongholds. Question illegal cigarettes and the sheer number of consumers that visit these spaza shops, completely unregulated.
If your wife or husband/boyfriend/ girlfriend is still a member of the ANC or is srill supporting the ANC please dump that fool - there is simply no future there.🤞🤞🤞
This is just a mess, the government did not think this through properly. Is the law to prevent renting out your license to the next person
When did the ANC ever have brains. ANC will still be singing their renewal song, their false promises up until they find they no more. But what will these politicians do they will jump to another political party so they can have a job. Black leadership is shocking too say the least and they have proving Verwoerd right.
Aldren I followed you on radio and enjoyed your shows, investgative journalism and the fact that you ask the diffucult questions. You look as smart as you sound.
If the government said people who wants to own n tuck shops then the was going to be a lot of SAcns who register. Tuck shops are owned by foreigners hence they're the ones who will register in numbers.
It is difficult for South Africans to compete with these people. They are selling cheap fake stuff. And you find 5 people owning one spaza shop.
These shops will be the downfall of a country and it's economy....for sure
It's also a health risk.
Can the list of all Spaza's who registered be publicized for public comment.
People who don't know their duties get fundings because of comrade or membership of party. And they failure their friends.
We ve seen like tenders same thing happens.
Is it possible that SAns heard that there could be tax implications and that if there are grant recipients they could loose that too??
As if these foreigners pay tax!!! Their shops will be closed anyway, because all they know is selling expired food and counterfeit products is where they make their profits. This story ain't ending here.
Wonder how they came up with R400bil to fund everyone. 🌬️👍🏾
Do the quality to run business in our country do they have R5 millions and business visa?
You must know that the R5 million is for people who want to do business in South Africa but many of these foreigners are asylum and refugees permit holders which gives them right to school, work and do business in the country. According to the way the system is designed on their side, they are not in the group of showing proof of the R5 million.
As long as they are not running any business in townships it's ok...let them apply it's ok but run those shops somewhere else than in our townships where the kids are exposed to poisonous food and drugs.because bo my friend front with spaza shops to sell drugs.
South African have given up on space shop because of lack of support to small businesses by government.
As a South African who is unemployed n not running a spaza shop currently but willing to, is it possible to collect a capital to register n start within 21 days?
The govt should have said ...i give South african 365 days to register so that we save money or borrow
The locals complain and look
It is not government's work to set up businesses for people. Grow up black people you are like babies. Not the ANC at fault. And why must this opportunity be reserved for SA citizens. Are you afraid of competition.
Haibo so you fund them n give materials then they sell it yarrrr😅😅😅 south africans are giving god a headache guyss foreigners dnt evens need funding or material s frm anyone they know hw to run this business
let them go run spaza shops in their own crumbling countries
Wake UP!!! People who know how to run businesses don't kill their consumers, don't sell rotten food. Foreigners are getting away with running bad stinky businesses because the poor are so abused by the ANC they don't even fight back.
At my area 7 speza shops et the same street 6 for foreign erst and most of them are quite but owners are driving expensive cars
It means there is sugar there😂😂😂😂
So it means kukhula umhobholo
We not participating because why must we register with foreigners in our country, this registration was for foreigners 😢
Even those work in the streets in urban areas have to be taxed for job creation
Which means that in SA people's lives don't matter,it's all about what the government can gain from a situation, but Shoprite knows what's happening as they are trying to take over the spaza shop industry in the townships
Why didn't they reserve a certain percentage for South Africans in their country. South Africans. deserve better than this. Where are they going to invest the S A tax payers money if there are few S Africans applying?
People will go.back to how we used to buy from the previous years
Now new people come in for permits or sell permits the next scam .
Interisting Question is the Spaza Shops Buildings inspected and up to Standard to do Busniness in .Safety Standards. And and and
Hopefully
Government must put 100000 as security 😅😅😅 to register a spaza shop 😅 case close
Less south Africans it shows that foreigners are hard working people so we must stop complaining. Am south African an I started my business with 350 grand now am making over 30k an am an Amputee
Hardworking at selling rotten expired food!!!. Watch how they close their shops even after registration because they are in the business of selling expired food, they will still sleep in their shops, they will be closed down either way.
Where are the noise makers take this opportunity and register
Anyone can run a spaza shop it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to run come on SA take back your shops
Are they all investing R5million that’s the minimum to start a business in SA for any foreigner
Spaza shop is something small and temporal and in my experience it doesn't yield any profit. You use it for survival. I grew up in Soweto, my grandmother sold the same amakikip, broken biscuits, chips, sweets, spinach, mealie meal, archaar, vegetables there's no profit. We need to be clear in what exactly are these people selling that is giving so much profit instead of beating about the bush. You don't need 5 spazas in one street, what exactly are you selling? We are too quiet as South Africans, we need to call a spade a spade about these spazas. Who really owns them, the poor workers have bosses who are collecting government funding and their workers are there to benefit from accommodation hence the poor condition, dirt and filth in those small containers they have no place to live. Please can the government stop being lazy, fully research this and give us answers. We had shops selling bigger items, spazas were used as convinience shops just like your corner garages. Stop blaming South African citizens for nothing. We have been in this country long enough to understand that the politics around this has nothing to do with citezens but politicians who are benefiting from abusing the funding system. Not everyone can do business. Apply the law and let's see how these businesses would flourish. Pure corruption and both local people and foreign nationals are being used for political gains. It's not fair, we have been failed as black people by our government😢 it's sad!
Ungangeni econversation ngenhliziyo yakho 😂😂😂😂
YOU CAN MAKE HUGE PROFITS IF YOU SELL EXPIRED FOOD YOU PAID VERY LITTLE FOR. SANS YOU CAN GET THEM ALL CLOSED DOWN BECAUSE THEY WILL STILL CONTINUE TO SELL EXPIRED FOOD BECAUSE SELLING FRESH SA MADE FOOD DOES NOT YIELD PROFITS.
I know, am just buffled that spazas are our daily focus when we have pressing issues that need attention, let's Focus please, 😂@@dailyshowtelevisiondstv5585
At least one perdon here knows spazas do not yield massive profits,as anticipated by those sitting on their arses.Imagining figures equal to those vannishing fromvthe public purse. The word spaza do not equal real.
Absolutely a failed system by selfish don't care thieves.
You think they wil pay rent to property owners?
Why arr south africans not registering?😊
People are here saying ANC failed their people. As much as I'm not a person who support the notion of mass foreigners owning spaza shops, I think South Africans never take responsibility! We lack accountability and always want the government to rescue us, take care of our kids, do everything for us, give us free houses, and free everything! This is the reason why we are stagnant as black citizens! We know how Our government is and all we do is complain all the time.... 🤷🏿♀️ Some of yall vited for EFF yet youre still complaining about foreigners owning spaza shop 😂
Please help me guys. Are we allowed to register if you plan open one.
Are they registering only existing shops
Or I can acquire the license. Please help.
Stupid people will blame eff😂😂😂😂😂
Unpatriotic disgusting party
EFF is part of our problem
You know they want everything for free that's the problem we have here
who wants everything for free from who and in who's country?
These foreign shops will be closed down soon anyway. They do not know how to run proper businesses. they will continue to sell expired and fake foods and sleep in their shops. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣They will never meet the health and safety standards.
The fact that a business opportunity exists does not mean that people actually want to do that business. Some people are comfortable standing in the sidelines and complaining.... you can't force people to be entrepreneurs...
Just bcoz u can right in enlisgh doesn't mean u can think smartly
& the data does make sense, foreign nationals cannot apply for formal jobs in South Africa so its normal that they look to businesses that are lucrative. Also, if South Africans don't want to participate, whose problem is it really? Its the same as the delivery business, our people don't want this type of job, but they are happy to make orders from Checkers etc so it shouldn't be a problem
I wonder 😢
@@lovedlover2667 It is ignorant mindsets like yours that shows why this country is in the toilet.
Are you implying that there were not shops in black communities before you guys came with your fake and poisonous products? People who jumped the fence into South Africa after 1994 cant claim to be experts on our country.
Do foreigners each have R5 000 000
Lol, they ain't going nowhere
who going somewhere, South Africans?
@thabangtladi8057 foreigners are here to stay baba
Aldrin so you rather our children die?
Running a business and getting employed are two different things. We can raise the issue of scarce skills in employment. In business, we don't have the luxury to do so. In my township, we have Spaza shops run by locals, which do not last for over a year. Not everyone will run that business to the satisfaction of the community. One way to solve the unemployment crisis is to make it mandatory for foreign spaza shops to employ locals. Whether one or two locals.
Mmm😢😮
Its not the anc fault local folks are not registering spaza shops, locals are not registering, locals are not registering locals are not registering.
It tells me that locals are not registering spaza shops. You are not being blocked or prevented in any way at all.
Locals know foreigners will continue to sell expired products because that is how they make huge profits, local know they will continue to sleep in their shops. Locals know these foreign shops will be closed down anyway because of their rotten business practices, watch this space.
The hate u people have for foereigners, to a point of not only discouraging comecial property owners not to give their property to foreigners! U now want property owners to even run these spazas😂 shame!
Anyone saying ANC let down its people is misdirected. Entrepreneurship requires certain skills and mindset that comes with defined habits. Entrepreneurship is not just about capital .
Before you start saying South African don’t have entrepreneurial skills, the problem is that these foreigners esp Parkistanians have a syndicate for supplies that has been set and that’s why they sell cheap goods. Most of these goods are not quality assured. On the other hand SAns sell legit goods from reputable wholesalers. Now this cause a competition between them since poor people prefer cheaper goods.
You can not just wake up and become a business person because you are south African , SAs spending the whole day in the spaza shop, when are they going to be grooving😂😂😂😂
you can not wake up and jump sa borders and want to lecture us about things you see for the 1st time in life here in SA
this MEC is clueless, suffer the south african citizens
Foreign nationals know how to manage shops
And how did nationals who had shops before, loose the skills to run shops.. Because when I grew up before the influx of foreign nationals we had many shops run by south Africans
Yeah they are expect in selling fake rotten poison expired food. Ridiculous.
Did u take yo tym n see wat nasty things that they r doing in their shop b4 yu say they know how to run their shops. Mayb yu r a kwerekwere
South Africans are lazy. You supposed to remove the monopoly when they started taking over decades ago. It's to late now
Shoprite, spar boxer pick n pay they must start spaza shops in townships working together with local business people and employing local as part of job creation
