Yes, this is a myth. Statistically, we actually have better teeth in the UK. It's an outdated view along with the bad food thing, which is generally claimed by people who have never even been here.

@@gillbanton221 I'm 80 and English. The bad food / bad teeth stereotype dates back to WWII when food was scarce and most working-class kids (myself included) had never even seen a toothbrush. BTW it's the organic matrix between the enamel prisms of the teeth that gives the teeth their off-white colour. Most younger adult teeth are really about an A2 shade - never white and should discolour more as one ages. Non greedy honest dental surgeons agree that white teeth in an older person look ridiculous - we call it mutton dressed up as lamb. Aging is a natural process that should IMO be embraced and not hidden by a veneer of falsehood.
B.D.S. degree from UNCLE, UK, when treatment was free. I left the profession when the greedy government introduced charges even for old people. I didn't sign up for that rip off. Healthcare and a good education should be a right for all and paid for via PAYE taxation in a civilised country.

Additional - teeth that have been discoloured by some medications (usually those given at too young an age while the tooth was still forming) or other non-naturally discoloured teeth are valid candidates for some form of whitening since they fall under the same umbrella of other socially or physically damaging dental conditions such as malocclusions due to crowding or supernumerary teeth for example.

Hi Connor, your comment about us Europeans talking more about Americans than Americans about Europeans:
I think your sample of European attitudes might be skewed, as most of your contact is with people who are reacting (currently) to an American.

America tends to focus more on the cosmetic side of dentistry, i.e. the appearance of teeth, rather than the actual health of them. Teeth are generally not naturally perfectly straight or bright white it colour, (although, there is some genetics at play in regard to some peoples having whiter teeth than others), but rather off-white.

We are loads of different countries with loads of different cultures. If you go a couple of hundred miles south east of London you are in Paris but if you go a t further North you are in Glasgow. Two very very different places. If you did that in the states it's like popping down the shop?

I was carded going into a sports bar in the early 1990's. Stunned, I answered "I'm 37..." my US friends thought it was hilarious when I showed the guy my UK drivers license. I'd lived at the same address for many years so never needed to renew it, so it was an old style paper license (no photo). They also do not have a DOB on them. The best you can do, as I explained to the bemused door guy, is look at the expiry date which is at age 70 and work backwards from that. He gave up and just waved me in as (1) it was kinda cold as it was March, (2) there was a big queue forming. Like us, all there to watch the NCAA Final Four on a big screen. A quick Google tells me there are nearly 4 million old paper licenses still valid and in use here in the UK, mine included 😄

Oh dear when was this made ? Its out of date. In Europe most people pay with either chip and pin (£100+) or just tap the plastic for £100 or below. I haven't used cash for over 20years. Tips yes we do tip the waiting staff for good service ,not because the staff are on minimum wage here is £12 to £14.50. normally 10% . Few stores have staff on checkouts leaning towards self service or self scan. You can't drink until you're 21 but can have a gun yeah. White teeth are not a sign of health normally cosmetic and in a WHO survey the UK came above the USA for dental health. WWE who cares, cities in Europe were going before the USA were founded. Having watched some videos many Americans think Europe is in Canada. The stores don't open 24/7 to protect the workers from abuse. Mayo' on chips ir fries is a Belgian thing not french although nice if you eat mayo'. There are police who carry guns who are trained for years not weeks. My friend lives in central London in a 1500 square foot apartment no yard but a balcony price £3.4m . It seems Americans like to think they are better than anyone else to make them feel better about themselves. I visited many times and worked there for a year l even have a ex pat as a partner,(now UK citizen) .

Ive never been asked for ID in my life, and ive been going to pubs since i was about 14.
If someone asked me for ID now, im in my 50s, id walk out the pub/shop.
The American ID requirement is ridiculous.

I know someone who reacts to Europe and Britain on youtube....lol Question, does American news channels focus mainly on current affairs of the USA. . As European and British news focus on World events I think....

If you arre not as short as a child or teen, plus having a smatering of greying beard hairs and slightly haggard & aged skin, how are apparently looking younger than 18, 21 or 24, except if the cashire has facial blindness syndrome?!
Do 60 year olds need id or 80 or even 100 year old Americans need ID to prove they are over minimal age, even when they clearly are not that young.. do they need to give hookers ID too to prove they're above legal consent age#

ive been buying cigs since 13 years old age limit back then 16, even on way to school in school uniform, id take of my tie and pretend i was in year 12 or higher further education, even started to buy extra on way to school to sell in school. alcohol since late 15-16 years old ive been getting served and age limit 18 and over in a licensed place but 16 if served with a meal and with someone 18 or over and low 5 i think in private home. small town so i made sure when i went into shop it was quite esp for drink just in case someone who knew my mum grass me in, but trick work a lot was when asked for id say he served me last week and wave to staff member a distance stocking shelves normally a wave back and that me served, after that they served me once they continue to serve. things were much more laid back then, now if you do not look older than think 21 or 25 they ask you for id. funny thing when i got to legal age to drink that was the time i got refused the most as no id as never needed one not even a fake one so first 2-3 weeks waiting on id i had most issues not getting served funny thing was i was 18 but no id i got my mate who much taller no id and not yet 18 go in to shop for me. it was same mate when nearly 16 or around that and i asked mate to get me some and he said go try your self and see if not he go in after, after getting served i tried many places, only one what was not easy rest were and was never much issue if one refused to serve another one would and prob week later the one refused me prob serve me depends on staff. sure bent the laws a bit when younger fun times tho
