What's the best time of year to visit this area? I'd love to drive this bridge. The longest bridge I have ever crossed is the San Mateo-Hayward Bridge in California which is 7 miles long.
The best weather is generally July to August, however that is also the busiest time of the year. September can have nice weather and the number of tourists falls off then so that would be the month I would say is best for visiting.
I suppose it there in case a span collapses. I believe there have been bridge failures when multiple cars have gone over the edge in fog or in darkness. (Other bridges, various countries). As unlikely as it is it's a good idea. At highway speeds it is not always possible to stop within your headlights beam. `Faith based school of driving ".
Freedom! That is a bloody big bridge, a beauty.
It's quite the structure, I'm still amazed a bit by it every time I cross it.
Beautiful video of the bridge with deep blue sky. Reminded me of my family trip back in 2014, Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the comment. You certainly came a long way for that trip!
I RVed through eastern Canada and crossed this bridge back in 2010. So Beautiful. Miss doing the road trips now.
The summer of 2020 was notable for the lack of tourists in PEI. I expect a lot of folks are missing road trips just like you.
Its truly incredible what man can do. This bridge is proof of that. Thanks for the video.
Yes, it's an impressive piece of engineering and construction.
I flew over Charlottetown on a beautiful June day on a flight from Dublin to Boston in 1978. It looked so beautiful as did the whole of PEI.
From high up on a nice day the place looks like a map!
Nice video! Liked the view of the Ocean! :)
Thanks. It was a very nice day to do do the video, clear and sunny.
I'm coming very soon in PEI Canada. It's my dream island.
You and twenty thousand other people.
1:47 to 11:29 is how long it takes to cross that bridge 😱I’d be scared
I think its safer than the ferry that it replaced.

Nice. Hope someday I can cross that bridge.
With the way things are going in the world that won't be anytime soon.
Watching this makes me miss Costco 😊. Going to wait a few more weeks, though.
It would be nice to get "across" to the mainland again. I've not been off the Island since early February.
What? Double lines the whole way? Not allowed to pass?
That is correct, there is no passing allowed on the bridge.
Crossed the bridge for the first time ever last year it's impressive
I agree it's an impressive structure, and it sure beats the waiting we used to do to catch a ferry.
BlueShankPEI how long did it take to cross on the ferry?
The actual ferry crossing took about 40 minutes, but waiting to get on might be hours at peak times.
How long does it usually take to get over the bridge
Depends on weather. On a clear dry day about nine minutes. Winter conditions might put that up to fifteen minutes.
11:56 why is there a stop sign there??
I have no idea. It makes no sense, does it?

23 miles long bridge?
No, it is 12.9-kilometres or about 8 miles long.
BlueShankPEI thank you very much.
That's one long-ass bridge. For fun, I ran the clip full-screen at 2x speed. What a rush!
When they opened the bridge they had a "bridge run". I did the run and I can tell you it's a long way when you do it on foot instead of driving.
i would love to be there
At the moment the weather sucks you can be glad you are not here.
I hope this Confederation Bridge is good for Drag Racing
If you give that a try be sure to let us know how it works out for you.
noticed the black patched not bumps
Lots of patches on PEI roads too. Frost and no bedrock make the roads heave and pothole over here.
Iv bin to PEI alot but my uncle and aunt and grandmother
That's a good reason
That is a long bridge
Yes it is.
Are you on a motorcycle? What kind?
After watching the whole way, there is no leaning so maybe a trike but maybe just a car.
Nope, not on a bike. The camera is mounted to the roof of a Honda CRV.
I couldn't drive over this every day, certainly not in winter
I don't think you could afford to drive over it everyday as the bridge toll is currently $48.50 for a passenger vehicle.
@@314299 what is with these exchange rates in canada?
Do you mean the exchange rate for US dollars converted to Canadian?
@@BlueShankPEI yes
I crosed the Northumberland strait and never left Alberta
A cheaper way too.

What's a test run?
I don't wanna know what car you drive or what camera you shot this in. What's the toll rate?
Do you make it a habit to be a rude person?
Longest bridge in the world, eh?
It is certainly not the longest bridge in the world.
"The 12.9-kilometre (8 mi) bridge is the world's longest bridge over ice-covered water."
Nope!!!!!!
Nope to what?
@@BlueShankPEI I could NEVER drive over that bridge!!!
Driving over the bridge is not a lot different than driving down a highway, there is very little feeling of height.
Why the fuck not?

Road is in bad shape; it should be fixed
The bridge road surface in in good shape. The bumps are at the expansion joints, there's nothing that can be done about those.
I hate the brig
I think it's great, I just wish there wasn't a big mess of tents and officials at the PEI end at the moment.
