Today we head to Copart to track down and buy the Last Corvette ZR1. It was flooded in Hurricane Ian, is a total gamble. I think it's worth the risk as long as it sells CHEAP!

Man that bently STOP TOUCHING MOLD was a really nice design I liked how simple yet aggressive it looks.
That mold ain't gonna hurt anybody.
People have way over done the mold thing we are surrounded by mold spores everywhere chances are there is mold in your home for an example when it rains builders don’t take the time to dry things out they just keep right on building
@@erikrobles5727 you say that until you have someone close to you affected by mold. My wife, a Dr, had her office tested for mold after become sick over a two year period. It was infested with mold. Our lives have been completely changed from this. It's caused an almost intolerable auto immune disease. It's not something to play with. I've been a residential and custom home gc for 25 years and I can tell you right now, mold is not over inflated. It's a silent killer and any reputable builder will make sure your home doesn't and will never have any mold issues. Take it from me. I've seen what it can do first hand.

@@jmos51515 Yes it's def something to be careful of especially in dwellings. Touching a tiny bit of mold from moisture in a car is not the same. Very sorry for your wife though.

Sam, just an Fyi on "Flood cars" The insurance co's use the Flood damage to mean the car was damaged by water in some way. This doesn't necessarily mean the car was immersed in water or in a flood.
Heres a real example of a Flood damaged E430 I bought at coparts. An enhanced vehicle, in amazing, like new inside and out. interior not wet or water damaged, all sticker/papers under the carpeting and in the trunk were dry. This car being a mercedes has its air intake in the grill, The car was hit by a large splash of water directly in the grill area. The engine sucked that in and hydrolockrd it twisting #1 rod.
Coparts listed it as Flood, no crank, no start. High bid was 7600$. Now thank god I bought it from the high bidder after he couldn't figure out why the car wouldn't crank. I bought it from him for 1500$ and put an engine it. I thought he was going to cry when I told him why it wouldn't crank. low milage 75K miles, well maintained with all the manuals and docs.
Just something to be aware of what the term means to an insurance co.
The BMW Bucky The Beaver grill is terrible. Way worse than the Bangle Butt.
Corvettes - Some electronics sit low, doesn't take a lot of water to do serious damage. I had a new C6 that we only put 3K miles on it. Levy broke when in storage and was flooded (below the seat) - eventually totaled. One one week before we were going to take it out to boot.
This was a great video! For the few of us contemplating diving into a flood car, your videos are great tools of what to look out for.
At 17:11 that little white convertible is easily the coolest car there, a 1950s I think MGA. That will be worth money and probably the simplest to fix due to no computerised electronics.

The suspension on those cars was WAY too punishing! It was not until the C5 model that they became more civilized and could be used painlessly!
@Mike Demarchelier zr1 is not a land yacht. It's a sportcar. The c4 zr1 handles better than a c5. And it's faster
Clicked to see some cool flooded cars and I found ZR-Juan goodness, the LT5 at 7,500 through Corsa's is the sweetest sound around! Keep the King of the Hill content coming!

@@puppiesgalore4489 I bought a 'run and drive' car from them before that had a busted oil pan. I guess, technically, it did run. Just wasn't going to run for long.
@@nopota7290 The engine was almost broken in half. If I remember correctly the gearbox was broken off as well. Copart had it listed as running and driving. As they said it moved on it's own power during their inspection. There was physically no way it could've even started. As Cleetus is so big Copart caved and refunded him. If it were you or me in place of Cleetus, they'd surely have told us to suck it.
I've done many flood cars and wouldn't buy any that was in salt or brackish water, only fresh water. The corrosion on salt & brackish travel in the wires over time. It may work for a while but pretty soon you start to have issues everywhere.
What a day, got a LSC upload an hour ago, and Samcrac 5 mins ago. Feeling blessed, or whatever the kids say.

Things I wish I had. I wish I had stayed in Florida. I wish I won the lottery. I wish on the flood totalled cars they would pull the batteries (always damaged from sea water), flush the exterior and engine bay with fresh water and drain and fill the gas, oil and coolant, and spray the engine bay, transmission and rear diff (if it has one) with light oil because that would mitigate continuing damage from the sea water. I wish I had a big garage and more tools so I could pull those things apart the way I was trained In Navy Aviation Corrosion Control school and 'fix it' all. The only things you should replace are the battery, wire loom, and electronics...which can be expensive but its doable.
That Gwagon is probably completely fine lol, everyone might use them for highway cruisers but they are actually off road cars and can wade in water.

I don't understand why the g wagon was there. They are meant to go through water way deeper than that. An interior cleaning was likely all it needed. May have been easier for the insurance companies to total some of these cars out.

So Sam if your going salt water flood hunting you need to do what the Nikko Bros do. First look for the "Wl" tsps. Then open door and smell. If powered seats, see if they work. Then fuse box. Then of course engine oil, or milk shake detector, which you found!

the problem with all of these flood cars, is they were flooded with Saltwater. which getting above the sill will total most cars.

I work for Copart, I was at that yard in Punta Gorda for seven weeks. We had around 70k vehicles from Hurricane Ian.

My Mercedes was a flood car. No water damage found at all. The insurance company totaled it though. Car was 9 months old, got a great deal.

Not at all. Got a flood car out of that yard a month ago, w/l marked at the bottom of the door, but you could clearly see there was water in the headlights.
That was sarcasm. I bought several Sandy cars and most were marked wrong. You could CLEARLY tell once you got the car that they were less than honest. We won't even talk about their almost criminally high fees ...
@@christophermiller8894 Yup. They suck. I blame TH-camrs like Samcrac for their jacked up fees and everything selling for way more than it should. Before TH-cam, nobody knew about Copart or IAA and you could score a good car for cheap. Now it's way harder since the secret came out.
Sam I also have a special love for the C4 ZR1. Anxiously awaiting that next vid for a closer look.

Sam has the nicest salvage yard I have ever seen , it's impeccable and absolutely gorgeous.
To all naysayers, the BMW grill will one day increase in value like any other unusual cars, the very early bmw coupes had an unusually big grills and collectors want Kidney Money for them now.
Really enjoyed the salvage yard walk through. Its a shame more of those cars are not able to be saved. Hope the Vette is not a total loss. Can't wait for the next one.
Was I the only one who spotted the white MGA? Love those things. Shame 95% of the vehicles at these auctions are for dealers only.
Landlord of mine (Scrapyard Owner who has quite a hoard himself...) Had Four of these ZR-1's including quite a few of the LT-5/Lotus--dervived V8. He also has a Crate LT-5 Engine. What will he do with them? Never question a Wrecking Yard Owner 👀😂!
Flood cars are a can of worms. Even if you get it cleaned up and running today, it is a matter of time before all those electronics rot out.
I remember a clean black 1990 ZR-1 being sold in my home town with 80k miles for 11k back in 2019… I wish I could’ve bought it…

This is something that has always completely baffled me. why would any car manufacturer put the wiring in the floor, most headliners have enough space to put the wiring up there. it would solve most of the problems that flood cars get in the first place, or even have plugs in the floor that are easily accessible without having to remove the whole carpet.
And Sam walks away from the MGA without so much as a glance..... 😭
An "old clapped out" C4 for $25K? Two very nice low-mile C4s sold on BringATrailer in the past month for $25K. One with 3,300 miles went for $35K. No flood recovery necessary. They were indeed much more expensive a few months back, but so was everything else. I'd be bidding on that kit car Bugatti.

In Virginia, I had a customer who would buy his cars from a dealer in New Jersey that basically specialized in scoping out flood title cars that had little to no damage, like the one you found. He'd ship them to my garage for inspection before he took delivery of it. Never once found an issue with any of the cars he got. Basically bought 3-4 year old BMW's for half price.
I've owned 3 c4 zr1's.....funny enough I had a quasar blue 91 like this unit, cars have so many issues from the get go. Make sure you 9 quarts back in her and punt that low budget stp filter.
One of my friends here in Melbourne Australia has a C4 ZR1 that has been converted to right hand drive. It is in fantastic condition and he has a spare motor and trans for it as well as he figures it would take a while to source any spares from the USA..

That 360 looks like Grigio Ingrid. IMO it's a classy color but looks better on the 2+2s.
There’s actually a guy who rebuilds these engines with more updated performance parts and gets about 600hp out of them.

Niko Brothers have some great videos on buying flood cars at Copart. Wiring and electronics is what is expensive and a lot of it is in the floor and underneath the seats.

I think the Ferrari wasn't hit in the front but was pried open to reach the hood (Frunk) cable opening Mechanism. IMHO.

Easy speaker replacement, add some mother's brand interior cleaners after removing the parts to clean everywhere, maybe some electrosonic cleaning of metal parts, can even consider these flood cars as platforms for custom work that is done right with molds etc.
The electronics of cars is rather simplistic in what it does it seems, though not as designed for easy editing behind a OS shell/firmware of OEM billionaires.
That MGA......That MGA!!! Oh, and the ZL1 was a mistake.
Why not, if you can buy one really cheap, throw out engine and transmission. Replace with new motor mounts, 350 Chevy and GM transmission. Even go old school with carburetor and distributor. Good TH-cam project. Why not Sam? I'm sure Mom would approve.

The 4 series grille is ok not as bad as on the larger series . This one is about the limit on the size of the grills

You'd think that lot would spend $1000 and put down some anti dust spray....that dust is brutal.....
That lot is massive. Would cost a ton more than $1000 to cover it. Not to mention it probably wouldn’t last long before a rainstorm would wash it away. Besides, it’s a salvage auction. The last thing they care about is dust lol. Look at how they move cars around - with a bucket loader that has long forks. They simply do not care.
