    I always love to see what kind of day farmers have when it comes to taking care of their animals. Animals need to be fed no matter the weather. Nobody can take a vacation or day off, just because, when you have animals. I love the different voices you make when you speak to your animals. It shows your caring nature. Like I say, I’m a huge fan. Great job keeping the animals contained as you travel through the various pastures. Your wife’s idea is a good one. Great job as always.

    Looking at all your bison now, and seeing your level of confidence and knowledge is cool, as I'm remembering your original herd a few years back. You've come a long way and have much to be proud of. The hay all over Big Joe's head and face was hilarious. I'll be visiting Oklahoma City mid March from the west coast and will be ecstatically happy simply knowing I'll be in the same state as your bison! They're such beautiful and magestic animals.

    I was watching Jackie and it looks like she is pulling on her left ear. I have had several labs with ear issues. You need to catch it early. Could be ear mites ao excess wax. I am not a Vet but lots of experience. I clean my Bonnie ears twice a week. It's hard to keep up with.

    Good video Dusty. You need to get a spring harrow like Daniel has to drag around the pasture to break up the cow pies. It’ll help break them down and fertilize the pasture. Just a suggestion based on what my family does in the Midwest.

  • @douglaswilliams4735
    @douglaswilliams4735 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I think a good solution to the gate issue would be to build a lane between the pastures. You could drive down the lane without having to drive through the animals in pastures 1 and 2 to get to the rear pastures. Also you could use the lane to move animals between pastures and up to the barn if needed. It would also put a buffer between pastures so you wouldn’t have to worry about a couple of animals fighting through the fence. The ideal situation would be to have lanes between all of the pastures when you get the whole 189 pastured in but that would require running twice as much fence and we all know that would be expensive.

    • @edmartin875
      @edmartin875 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hay bales and hand feeding "cubes" are not cheap either. He needs more land (also not cheap) for the number of bison he already has.

    Wow a lot of hard work today. With feeding Bison. Opening and closing gates on a cold winter day. Ranching. The Bison we're waiting for you . They were actually good very cooperative with voice commands and acknowledged your commands properly. That's great Job! They were peaceful as well . Yet got to feed different herds makes for strategy planning to drive and gate tending and then also to less herds to where you need them to move to . Avoid injuries also. Time management for cold weather conditions changes as well . The chicken s were probably cold weather conditions less eggs maybe a suggestion also enclosure with thick clear vinyl tarp's attached to their cage to allow sunshine and view open yet warmer from breezes . Yet accessable to yard for exercise . And maybe a timer heat lamps also for night light for them to have extra heat as well. May help with egg production count increase . . IAM sure at local hardware store supply pre-measured tarps. To clip on secure to chicken cage as windy days happen . I think that may help with egg production.😊 . My aunt and uncle use to own a chicken farm in Arizona that's how I know . . Of course it was larger scale . But for your general size . That may help you out for snow weather. No stress to fix and not that expensive. As well. I hope I helped you out with that issue. Happy egg collection use a basket . 😊🙏👍All will be good. Have a warm and happy snow days.

    How about getting a hay squeeze attachment for the back of your flatbed, then you can unroll the bale as you drive your truck. You could still have the cake feeder on the flatbed right behind the cab. 🤷‍♀️ I've seen both these being used on other channels to feed hay and cake 😘

    Much as your ideas are coming to fruition, you must remember personal safety. It is very easy to over trust your stock and it only takes one to have a bad day, knock your door off and things can go very wrong. It is great to watch you and the bison trying to out think each other.
    Will the dogs distract the bison when trouble occurs?
    Keep safe, enjoying that snow. Can you make up some of the extras for your truck yourself.

    😂Big Joe looks like an old fashioned punk rocker from the 80’s! 😂. Yes, I’m showing my age but it is what it is. 23:20 ⭐️⭐️Dusty you are so independent in your chores and things to get done I have to admit I agree with one other follower about being curious if someone knows exactly your plans are and where you’ll be. I live with a very determined, hard-headed, I can do it myself husband and I’ve always loved him for not being afraid to take on or try anything. I retired from Federal nursing and he retired from big-ticket sales and traveling. We were both fortunate to have been able to plan and retire early due to being frugal as heck. His first chore was painting the house and next was trimming some trees. No way was he paying an expert for the trees. We both paid for that one. I took an afternoon nap and specifically said no trimming until I’m up. A branch came down and took out the cable to the internet. He put the large extension ladder against the house and all he had to do was run the cable and twist that o-ring into the house, the top peak of the house. Halfway down he missed a step and landed on his right side fracturing ribs puncturing a lung and completely breaking the entire head or ball off the femur. Wife is asleep, phone?, what phone?? He drug a wrought iron side table up to him and drug his body to the back door which thank God he’d left open for the dogs. I hear all heck breaking loose and screaming. Jumped up and finally realized what happened. He was going into shock. Called our nephew who is an anesthesiologist and he just happened to be close by and almost before I changed clothes he was making calls and getting him into my SUV and flew out of here with flashers and honking. Told me to turn mine on and keep up. Turned heat and his seat warmer on high as his teeth were chattering and full deadly shock was setting in. ER was outside and waiting. He was in surgery in 2 hours and had I not had help I can’t imagine. Basically, I just never want Marissa or your Mom to ever walk into a situation like I did. Despite being a Critical Care nurse it’s entirely different when it’s a loved one. Skills kick in then you fall apart later. It totally wipes out plans and financially sets things back or could cause bankruptcy. Please consider a back-up cheapie phone or those long range walker talkies and never get out of your truck or whatever your in without one or the other.

    I would say perhaps make kind of a lock? You know like boats go through from one lake to another? that way you can protect yourself and prevent them from scooting into another paddock. It would take up a little bit of space between pastures at the point of the lock and it would take more fence panels, but the peace of mind and protection would be worth it.

    Maybe look at an "air-lock" type setup for the sections where your pastures converge Gates and fencing at the convergence. That way you could drive in and only have to clear a small area before opening the next "lock". So you don't have to worry about running out to keep bison from another pasture.
